KAUFFMAN BOOK REPRINT

Has Charles Fahs Kauffman's book ever been reprinted, as was suggested in 1999 messages here? If so, I'd like to know publisher/seller.

If it has not been reprinted, can anyone tell me if either the 1940 or the 1952 editions were copyrighted?

If someone has one of these, could you verify whether or not it contains an 1813 letter from Abraham Kauffman to his brother Daniel?

I never heard from anyone about a reprint of the book, despite having been in touch by e-mail with quite a few people who would have known and/or wanted it.
I did, however, track down the original of the 1813 letter I was asking about. Then worked with its current owner and another Kauffman/Beaver researcher to flesh out details on the people mentioned, for an article. The letter and our support material was published in the March 2004 issue of
OHIO GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY QUARTERLY (Vol. 44, No. 1), pp. 34-38.

Kauffman's of Philadelphia and Worcester Mass.

The family tree entry listed for Jacob Kauffman and Freda Lasnov of Kiev, Russia is incorrect. This is my grandfather's family. The orginal family name was Lasnowski (hence someone's memory of Freda "Lasnov.") Actually, the patriarch's name was Jacob (Jankiel) Lasnowski, from Grajewo, Poland, His wife was Freda (Fraydla) Curowski. Their children Louis, Meyer, Ida, Rachel and Hyman emigrated to the US. Meyer changed the family name to Kauffman (it's unclear why). Louis, Meyer and Ida (married name Frankel) settled in Philadelphia and spelled Kauffman with two 'f's. Hyman and Rachel (married name Luff) settled in Worcester, Mass. They had a half-sister, Anna (married name Weinstein) who settled in Philadelphia. She was the daughter of Fraydla Curowski and her first husband, Aaron Todorovitch, not Jankiel Lasnowski. By the way, they had another brother, Abram, and a sister, Libby (married name Gutstadt) who never came to America. This is my great grandmother. My grandfather Max Goodman (Mottel Gutstadt) lived with Anna Weinstein in Philadelphia. His sister Minnie lived with Rachel Luff in Worcester. I worked with a genealogist, and he was able to find birth records for all of these people in Poland, and family records for the Lasnowski's going back several generations there.

Yes, I know we are related as I recognize Elizabeth Mark's name. My Grandfather Joesph Eli Kauffman died in 1979 in Freeport Michigan (by Hastings, near Grand Rapids). His father was Jacob. They were mennonites, and I'm trying to track down a 1940 book by Charles Fahs Kauffman, "A Geneoloty & History of the Kauffman Families on North America 1584 to 1927", Mennonite Publishing House. Elizabeth could have been Jacobs mother or grandmother. We believe there is a Dutch connection.

I have a copy of the original Natl Archives record and the surname is definitely written as KOFFMAN, but of course the possibility of an alternate spelling is still present. She was researching the War of 1812 record of Willis LAKE of Licking County, Ohio. Would like to exchange information if convenient to both parties. Thank you.

He married Elizabeth Marks on July 9, 1858 in Manistee, MI. Elizabeth was born in 1840 and died 1914, I'm assuming she also died in Manistee. They had one daughter that I know of, Francis Kauffmann born Oct. 1867. If you are related or can help me, please e-mail me at JimsDee@aol.com.
Kauffman-Coffman Book

I spoke to Lawrence Kauffman who is the son of Charles Fahs Kauffman.
He is
the author of the book "A genealogy and
history of the Kauffman-Coffman families of North America, 1584-1937.

He said that he will be republishing the book at the end of this
year. He
said due to financial constraints it may take him longer
to publish it. I asked if by reserving copies and paying upfront
would help
to publish the book faster. He said yes. But he
normally doesn't like to ask money upfront. I explained that I would
be
happy to pay upfront for the book. He says he will try
to keep the price around $50. He hasn't set the price yet since he
hasn't
got a quote from the publisher, Mennonite Publishing
House.

I told him that I would get a list of the people that I knew that
would be
interested in getting the book and paying upfront. If you don't have
the
book and would like one or more, please let me know and I will tell
him, or
if you want his address and phone is as follows:
and just let him know you got it from me.

Lawrence Kauffman
770 Green Spring Rd.
York, PA 17402
(717)-266-3750

He said that this republishing also will have corrections in it also.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Dan
(727)-532-9072. My website is on Family Tree Maker under users pages
under
Daniel-A-Coffman.

I also posted by pedigree on the genforum. Thanks,Dan 727-532-9072
