Kavanagh James and Pearson Julia of Wicklow Ireland

I am reposting my interests with additional information. James Kavanagh married Julia Pearson in Stradbally RC church Waterford 1858 all their children were baptised in the same church. However, the 1901 & 1911 census shows that both were born in Wicklow. Both were born 1830-40. James was a miner. Julia's mother was called Ann who was the widow of a miner she died in Waterford. This is all the information that I have despite many years of research. Can anyone advise me about possible avenues that I can explore.
regards
Susan Knox

The family Bible that belonged to William and Mary Kavanagh is available and for sale. I do not know the seller but I am hoping it ends up in the hands of one of their descendents.

This Bible records that William Kavanagh and Mary Jane Boyle were married in 1881 in Auburn, New York. This is in Cayuga County.

Some census records for them...

Mary J. Boyle, 1880:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/M4NK-8YF/p_251232897

Shows her mother as Mary Boyle and a sister Sarah Boyle.

William and Mary, 1900:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/1BK4-G1N/p_65198653

Children: Edmond Kavanagh, Marie Kavanagh, Paul Kavanagh, Agnes Kavanagh, Henry Kavanagh.

William and Mary, 1910:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/92MY-QK4/p_586708122

The Bible:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Family-Heirloom-Bible-Kavanaugh-Fami...
I seek info on a Felix Kavanagh who emigrated to Illinois, had a goodly amount of acreage in DuPage County and passed away prior to 1865. There is some relationship between Felix and my mother's family (Edward Kavanagh, John Kavanagh), as part of the Felix Kavanagh land ended up with my gr gr grandfather.

Felix is such an unusual name for an Irishman, especially in the 1800s. Have you put together a family tree yet? See my tree KERN on Ancestry.com for what I have figured out so far on Kavanagh in Illinois. This family was close with LAWLER and BUTLER families.

Hi there-- I've been reseaching the Baltimore Kavanaghs from around that time period and definitely have come across a Thomas that is not connected to my Baltimore Kavanaghs (at least immediately, we're not certain that the 2 or so Kav families that came over around them aren't at all connected). Anyway, I don't have an immigration date, but I do have an obit and can see how far back he's mention in the Baltimore Sun archives (you have to to have a local library card to access the database, which I'm guessing you might not.) Anyway, I'm happy to see what I can find out about him if you want to contact me through here with any other details you might have-- like spouse/children. I'll attach a possible obit here.

I am looking for any family members of these two surnames. My step mom's name was Kathleen Kavanagh and her parents were James Kavanagh and Elizabeth Walsh, they have nine children. My wife's family also comes from St John's. On her mothers side the Brothers surname. Any family of Peter James Brothers and Harriet Croft. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I know that some of the Kavanagh's still live in St John's. From what I've heard one of them owns a pub of some kind. Would love to find out any and all information about these two families.
There is a book published in 1961 New York --The Devin-Adair Co called "The Incredible Mr.Kavanagh". Arthur McMorrough Kavanagh was the fourth child of Thomas and Harriet Kavanagh's children and what made him famous was that he was a member of parliament, sport fisherman, husband and father who travelled to Persia--not so different from men of his time except that he was born without arms or legs! I read the book when my husband showed it to me not long after we met. As the years passed he bagan to look more and more like the picture in the book and now are son who is 30 has the same likeness. The book is an interesting read and would be the best way to follow the family history. My husband was born and raised in Dublin and his ancestors are from county Wexford where Borris house is located.

Re: MacMurough, Kavanugh, Kavanagh, Cananagh, O'Keevan, Keevan

I to have a Kavanagh in my family. His name was Charles Joseph Kavanagh, all though he spelled it Kavanaugh. I went to the public library to the reseach area and found a couple of books on the name. Basically what they said was it started as an eipthet-in Irish,Caomhanach meaning belonging to Coamhan (Kevin), atributed to one member of the MacMurrough family og Leister and perpetuated among his descendants. They are still the most numerous in the ancient MacMurrough lands in Counties Wexford and Carlow. My GGrandfather came from Carlow.
The first to use the name Domnall(Donal), son of Diarmait Mac Murchada(Dermit MacMurrough, King of Leister. Donal was fostered by one of successors of St. Coamhan and took the name Coamhanach.
In Ulster the Kavanaughs or Cavanaughs do not decend from the MacMurrough,s. In E Tyrone some MacCavanas anglicised thier name to Cavanagh and Caulfield. MacCavava is a form of MacEvanny, Garlic Mac an Mhanaigh from manach, a Monk, Around 1900 Kavaagh was being used interchangeably with Kivnahan on the Inishowen peninsula in Donegal.
I know Keevan is a Gaelic spelling for the name Kevin, my nephew's name.
Carlow is a inland county of Leister. The area was under the Anglo-Normans rule after their invasion but their tenure was frail and the real power was with the Kavanaghs and the O'Nolans. The last Kavanagh McMurrough chieftain was forced to surrender in the middle of the 16th century, but the family kept giving the English trouble and the people of Carlow often took up arms against the government whenever the opportunity arose.
As you see I can only tell you about the Keevin spelling , hope this helps you.

Hi, William Kavanagh was my grandfather; he passed away circa 1993. William married Angel and had five daughters: Pamela, Lorraine, Geraldine, Robie (sadly deceased in the 1970s), and Grace. Lorraine is my mother and I am the youngest (age 29) of four.

In the late 1950s, I believe after many requests, Bill (William) sold Leixlip Castle back to the Guinness family (creators of the famous drink), who I believe had historical roots there. The family moved to Ballintyre Hall in Dundrum, Co. Dublin, and maintained the house until Angel passed away in 1998.

My Dad and I were just discussing this history and we are interested to know about Bill's half- brothers and sisters, one of whom was Gertrude (your great grandmother?). Can you send me details about your grandparents and parents because we don't know anything about them? And any other relatives please?

I also have Kavanagh/Byrne connections. My great-great grandfather was Edward J. Kavanagh (born 1832) who married Bridget Byrne(born 1837) about 1859 in Ireland. Three children, Esther, Hugh, and Mary Ann were born in England, before they emigrated to the US about 1865. They lived in New York where three more children, Edward J., Sarah, and Kate joined the family.

I am looking for information on my great, great uncle Owen (or Eoin/Eoghan) who is thought to have emigrated from Co. Wexford to America in the late 1800's. His siblings were Patrick (1860), Andy (1870) and Ellen (1864) who remained in Ireland.

Patrick & Ellen Cavanagh from Cloonerneen, Ballinrobe, County Mayo

Have reason to believe these are the parents of John Kavanagh who came to Ellicott City, near Baltimore, in 1850 from MAYO. Civil records of death (which commenced in 1864) contain the death records of a couple Patrick Cavanagh (1782 - 1872) and Ellen (1794 - 1878) of Cloonerneen, Ballinrobe who could have had a son the age of my John (born circa 1826.) Thanks to Gerard Delaney of the South Mayo Family Research Centre in Ballinrobe who dug up that tidbit! Also I found an obit for MARTIN KAVANAUGH in 1887 who also lived in Ellicott City beside my JOHN and it states that he was born in Ballinrobe. Any Kavs/CAvs out there with family from this part of Ireland. Would love to share info!
