Hi Bruce
Although there are some commonalities I do not believe we are connected. I have birth records for first child Arthur in 1849 in Kildare and second John 1857 in NYC. He (john father) immigrated in 1851 (ships records) and she about 1852. Does not seem to be connected. Too bad!! Joe

Hi joe, my brief data:
John Keating born 1827? Ireland, married Catherine Kelly born 1828? Ireland and married in Scotland 1846.
Their parent:
John's- Andrew Keating & Helen Glass. From Ireland. Andrew Was a Ships Carpenter.
Catherine's Parents and some vague info with Catherine's mother, Mary Kelly I think married again is recorded once with Patrick Corrigan. Catherine is also recorded as an Armstrong and I have verified that info. Catherine also married John Bray in Scotland after John Keatings Death.

If any of that sounds familiar??

Thanks

David

Hi Bruce
Based on my research so far that the John Keating (my GG grandfather) was not born in Scotland nor does it appear he lived there. I have some baptismal records that he was born in Kildare. I have a birth record for his first son Arthur to Catherine Kelly Keating in Kildare. The second son John was born in NYC in 1857 (birth certificate). I also have his father and grandfather both of Kildare (birth certificates). Never been able to find a wedding certificate so very interested in that. (My records have Catherine from Mayo). Does any of this match what you have?? Thanks for the note. Look forward to your response. Joe

He and his sister Margaret went through Ellis Island on 19th Aug 1924, and the next year his mother Ellen , father William and brother John arrived in New York on April 14 1925.
My Keating, James S. Keating, ( It was spelled Caton by the Irish priest in Halifax) came from St. Mullins, Co. Carlow about 1817 to Halifax and married a Mary Ann Reaney. He also had a son named James born Mar 1837 at Dartmouth, NS. I don't have any further information on him. His brother, Maurice, was the father to my G-Grandmother.

All I know is that James Patrick Keating was born in Boris, County Carlow and moved to Canada. He married Martha Weaver. We think he entered Canada through Halifax and may have come here with four other brothers. He had a son James Keating who married Mary O'Leary from Conception Harbour, Newfoundland, Canada.

Yes all of this fits in with my Keating family. I have seven (7) children of Michael and Mary. There is Patrick born in 1878. I remember Uncle Willie visiting our house when he came to Archbald from New York. Was he employed as a policeman or security guard? I remember hearing that he may have been in security at Yankee Stadium!!

My records only go back to Michael and Mary but going forward I do have data on the next few generations.

If you wish you can email me directly at joejoan66@aol.com

Joe

Hi Eric,

Your information sounds correct. I just sent a post to a Joseph Holmes, whose grandmother is Frances Holmes daughter of Mary and Michael Keating. Agnes (your grandmother) would have been sister to my grandfather, William, and Frances Holmes. My aunt Mary, my father's sister, is Mary McAuvic who had married Robert McAuvic (yes, strange but true) her third (?) cousin. There were 6 children in the Keating family: John, Mary or Mamie, Agnes, Frances, William and Clara. Anything sound familiar to you? My dad and aunt, children of William, are still alive and well. My aunt Mary lives in New York and my dad lives in Colorado.

Hi Joseph,

I'm sorry it's taken me this long to get back to you. If my records from my aunt are correct, Frances is the sister of my grandfather, William, who lived in Manhatten until his death in 1981. He was married to my grandmother, Anne nee Minihan from Ireland. They had two children, Michael and Mary Francis, both who are still alive and well. In the Keating family (if this is the right family) there were 6 siblings: John, Mary or Mamie, Agnes, Frances, William and Clara. My father is, Michael, the son of Anne and William. Does any of this sound like it fits to you?

Not sure if she was married over there first or if she got married here. I think she had 4 brothers living with her in 1860. Michael, John, James and Thomas Keating.

Thanks

Tiff

Hi! So happy to hear from you. My mother spoke of her Uncle Bob. I remember him, briefly, from my grandmother's funeral (Thomas's wife- Francis kerley-keating). I was 15 at the time. This was my first & only meeting w/ Uncle Bob
My mother is Michele Keating, Thomas's eldest daughter. I am trying to find any information about the Keating family. My mother knows what she was told, but it hasn't helped me find much. Any history or information you have would be most appreciated.
I cant even find a birth record for Thomas.
Its so exciting and sad to to find family members I have never known existed.
Sincerely,
Melissa
