Dear researchers;

I would like to express my concern about the above family and the fact that this family is not connected to the Francis Scott Key line or Gene Key's line or what's called the Virginia Key line.

Some of you are making a connection to this John Key born abt. 1749 and Mary Owen born March 23, 1752 and their son Owen Key b. 1777.

Ydna has proven that this connection isn't even a close match. I am tester # 40080 and have a proven connection to the above family.

Thank you and I hope that this will clear up some of the mis-information some of you have on these two lines. I have researched the Owen Key line for over 55 years and can prove this line back to Owens father, John Kee.

Hi Lorin,
I am gathering information on this family for a friend. Farrow is his greatgrandfather. Do you have a photo of Farrow Lewis Kee and Mary George Viar Kee? I am extremely interested in the written family tree constructed by Farrow!!! I would love to see a copy!! Is Joab F. Kee the same "Joe" Kee, wife Clara, who served in the civil war? Is there a photo of Thomas Edgar Kee and Hattie Isadora Faulkner?? Would love to hear from you!

Sincerely,
Sharon
sharonjshirley@yahoo.com

W T Kee of Pennsylvania (Maybe Mc Kee or Key or McKee)

Looking for ANY information regarding Kees, Keys, Mc Kees of Pennsylvania.
My Great grandfather was James A McKee.
His father was Robert T Kee of Huntington County, Pennsylvania. Census records listed him as Key and Kee.
Robert T Kee (Key) b. 1829. D. 1865. (we have the dates from his son’s biography. We can’t find much on Robert T. and assume he died in the Civil War. Married Susan Roberts. B. 1830 d. 1871. Again, we can find only a couple census records. She died in Mercer County, Pennsylvania.
We are not sure who Robert T Kees father was. My mother researched this years ago and she said it was a W T Kee. Born 1802. Pennsylvania. She said his wife was Elizabeth ? born 1804. I can find no records on either of them
Any help or ideas are welcome
Robert T Kee born 22 Jan 1829 Crawford Pennsylvania

I am desperate to find any more information on Robert T Kee and his father, mother, where they came from. I have not been able to find documentation records of his BIRTH so what I have comes from another family tree. He definitely lived in Crawford but I have two alternate names for his father: W T Kee or James Kee and again, I cant find where his father was born. Only that he lived his entire life in Crawford and thereabouts. I cant find ANYTHING on W T (or James) Kee parents. Any Kee history or McKee history that might shed light on this line?

The Jane Russell Kees I am researching emigrated for a few years to New Haven Conn. She came back to Donegal with a school age daughter who carried the Kees surname. Could not find any record of Jane's marriage in U.S.A. or even who the father's first name was. A mystery.
Any idea where Magheracorran is in Donegal? We're over there every year and have no clue. Sometimes the spelling takes a twist coming over the pond! Good luck, Tom

I am researching family from County Donegal as well! I am not blood related to any Kees; only through marriage. My 5th great grandfather's daughters, Anne and Nancy Ewing, both married Kees from that area. Annes' husband was a Thomas Kee, from Magheracorran in County Donegal. Most of their children immigrated to Pennsylvania. I cannot find any more information on her family.

Surnames in recent parts of a family tree mostly cluster at RCC < 20, at about the time that surnames were chosen, but the tree shows only Y-DNA relationships, which makes it very powerful when it is done with surnames.

I have hesitated in the past to post on genealogy-dna@rootsweb.com but our work is now at the point where they will probably be interested, too. I have already generated these types of trees for a number of surname administrators. It's easy to do. I just need a haplotype of 37 markers, with Kit Numbers in the first column of an Excel spreadsheet and an additional identifying column, followed by the marker values at all 37 marker sites, using the same DYS sites that FTDNA uses. I can accommodate as many as 500 testee results at a time. The tree will show these two columns and will show the RCC time relationships among all the haplotypes in an Excel spreadsheet that is used as input to the program that generates the tree. This process gives additional information and can be used with FTDNA's Tip analysis to give further information on testees. It even gives time relationships among testees in different haplogroups, on a uniform time scale that is probably linear and valid to within a factor of 20-30 percent back tens of thousands of years. I will be glad to answer questions about it

- Bye from Bill Howard
Hi,
We live in the States, but visit family in Ireland every Summer. We stay in Donegal near Dungloe and was helping this Kees fella there locate some info on his mother who was born in the U.S. but the mother's side was Russell from Donegal. The Kee name came from her Da here in the U.S., but we can find no info on him. Our friend changed his name from Kee to Kees, legally, in Ireland.
While researching Ancestry.com we noticed that U.S. census listed people by the Kee name who had come from Ireland---but Kee is also a common Chinese name in some U.S. cities! Makes if tough to do any research.
You said your Kees came to Donegal?? From where? That might be important. Do you have any Russells in your family? One thing though, our friend's great grandmother was Catholic, but married a Protestant farmer name of Russell back in the 1800's not a common thing. So I guess she kicked with both feet! Good luck. Tom

I am a descendant from a large Kee family from Memphis Tennessee. My grandfather (Mom's side) was Sterling Jones Kee. His wife was Molly (Mary) Wilson (I think - I called her Granny). Their sons were Norman, William, Jack, James (still birth) and David. Their daughters were Erma, Bonnie and Josie. I had always assumed that Kee was originally McKee, perhaps to escape the initial prejudice experienced by the Irish when they first came to America.

Re: Simon Kee, Wabash township, Tippecanoe Co. Indiana

I am researching Caleb Kee (Key) and his 2nd wife, Sabrina Parsons' family. My records show that they had 3 children:
Amanda b. 1833 d. 1915
Morgan b. 1835 d. 1860
Simeon b. 1838 d. unknown

1850 census they are under Caleb Ree (Kee) in Wabash, Tippecanoe, IN. You will see Simeon transcribed incorrectly as "Susan Ree age 12." However, the actual census lists this name as a Male. In addition to their 3 children, you will see Joanna Ree. This was the youngest child of Caleb Kee and his first wife, Rachel Stevens. Joanna is listed as "insane."

1860 census Caleb Kee is 72 living with daughter Joanna Kee 33. He is widowed and living in Wabash, Tippicanoe, IN with a family from Ireland.

1870 census No longer able to find Caleb Kee so speculate he has passed away.

1880 census there is a Simon Kee age 42 (fits with Simeon Kee b. 1838 and sibling of Amanda and Morgan). This Simon names his first son, Caleb, which is a common naming convention to name first born son after husband's father.

I began searching this Simon Kee today, because if he were the sibling of Amanda Kee (we always referred to her as Key and was my gg-grandmother)then we would have common ancestors. However, this is speculation, and you may have family records on your gg-grandfather Charles Kee.

I just might be from the same family. Briefly:My gg grandmother first shows up in Chesterfield co. SC in the 1820 census with five children ( she appears to have been born abt. 1780)of these 5 children i have figured out that my g grandfather Jackson was most probably her youngest or next to youngest son. They seemed to have stayed put until her death somewhere around 1860.( she lived beside a James Key) I have never been able to attach her to a husband. Two things from this confound me:That suddenly she appears as hhh with children and #2 stays right there, then after her death Jackson starts jumping from Chesterfield to Union Co NC, then to Lancaster SC.Then back to Union Co. NC.From there after the death of his second wife Holy, they move to Cabarrus Co NC.TRhe place i call home.
PS I have had the dna tests (have You?)I do not match the John Allford Key family.(Dr. Gene Key of Texas)Gene did tell me at one point that a likely connection might be Henry Kee of Lancaster Co.

I am a distant relative of Francis Scott Key. I think I am a 13th great neice or somewhere in those lines. I was hoping to find out any information on the family. I am also researching my other two lines of family, the McKinneys and I'm not positive on the other name, sadly. But if you have any information on the Keys that would be great!

Robert Roy Kee is my great grandfather, I knew Mary as 'Aunt Mary'. They moved around, but their home base more often then not was Franklin, Georgia. I believe there were 6 children, oldest male being my grandfather Wilbur Kee. Robert didn't fight in WWI, as far as I know because of having flat feet.
He and Lillie are buried in the Kight cemetery at a small church in west Georgia, but I don't have any specific dates on me right now. I have pictures from the cemetery if you need any information and dates.

Our family name is KEES and I know that my grandfather added the (S) for whatever reason. He is the son of Robert KEE and Mary Jane Cascaden of County Donegal. They were married and had 6 children George, Robert, Thomas, Mary, William and Kate and lived Magheracorn which is midway between Stranolar and Convoy, county Donegal. They owned a Grocery and Dry goods store and also farmed. My grandfather is named William George KEE(S) and married a Martha Tait of Newtonstewart, County Tyrone.

I recently discovered that Bella Fife married a Wiliam Kee on 9/16/1914 at a church located at 52nd and Arch in Philadelphia. I cannot prove that this Willima Kee is directly related but I am making the assumption that he is somehow.

I also remember that my father Thomas S. KEES told me that he had acousin in Chicago that was also named Thomas S. KEE but I have not been able to varify that.

There cannot be that many members of the KEE family anywhere in ULSTER and I could not find any in Tyrone. I had a Cousin in Tyrone who indicated that Grandfather KEES was not from yrone but from Donegal.

I do hope that this might be of some interest. I am also aware of the following children :
James KEE - 3/25/1924
Elton KEE - 3/25/1924
William KEE - 8/16/1926
David Campbell KEE - 11/25/1929

Regards, Tom KEES

Ok, maybe you can provide some other clues. I have some good information about the Kees.

My g-g-grandfather was William Kee. Family records say that he had three brothers. We know of brothers Thomas and Jefferey but there is no mention of the third brother's name. However, William had four boys William, Thomas, Jeffrey, and John which leads me to be believe the third brother's name may have been John. They were born c. 1810 to 1815 in Ireland (most likely Co. Tyrone).

Please let me know if you can answer any of the following questions about your John.

What was John's wife's name?
What were the name of John's sons, if any?
What was John's occupation?
Do you know if John came through or lived in Philadelphia at any time?
Do you know John's religion?

Thanks,

Drew McGinty
