Ann, I do not know the maiden name of Inez Keen/e but her name is spelled as Inez V. Keene in the Ohio death index. She died Apr 13, 1987 in Scioto County, Ohio if this is the same person. I don't have her death record but it is probably available and would probably give her maiden name. Social Security Death Index says she was born Dec 2, 1894 and her last address was Vanceburg, Lewis, Ky. The Cemeteries of Greenup Co., Ky CD spells the name as Keen with th same year of birth and death and says she is the wife of Joseph Keen and they are both buried in Siloam, Greenup Co., Ky.

I'm searching for any relative from this Keen / Keene line. That can help with info on Zebulon and wife Hulda While living in Homer NY. They settled in Homer in 1796 part of the military land tract. They came from Brimfield Mass. Zebulon is the son of Isaiah Keen and Ruth Bisbee. Solid info on Zebulon & family while in Homer has proved most elusive, so any help would be a big help. Thanks,...R.Keene

Hello,

Lovely to hear from a member of the Keen clan! As you state this is an old message and I finally made contact with the granddaughter of Elizabeth Ada in New Zealand and we correspond almost weekly.

It is lovely to hear from Rose Elizabeth's family as I am also in touch with the Grandaughter of Charles Frederick. I cannot wait to tell my father I have heard from another of his father's sisters grandchildren.

The Children you are missing are their first born Helena Jane who died in Nov 1888 as a baby. She was only a few weeks old and died of a cold.

The second was a twin of Herbert Reginald that died at birth, unfortunately I have not been able to establish a name.

For years I searched for these two children as my grandfather wrote his life history and said he was one of thirteen. I had hoped the 1911 census would be my answer.

Elizabeth Ada married a William Benjamin Arthur Wilkinson and Helena May married George James Eden.

I have their children's names if you want them.

Apart from Grace I did not meet any of my grandfathers siblings and your grandmother is the only one I do not have a birthdate for I only have her baptism on 10 May 1893.(Apart from the two that died)

Thank you for contacting me, it was lovely to hear from you.

Beverley

p.s. I cannot remember what I wrote on the message board, but I am the granddaughter of Samuel Arnold known as Arnold.

Hi, Bit old I know but just saw your post. My grandmother was Rose Elizabeth Keen. My mother (who is still alive) believes that Elizabeth and Nell (Helena) emigrated to New Zealand around 1920. They lived quite close together in NZ. One of my Aunts kept in touch with them for a little while afterwards and told my mother that one of the sisters (dont know which) married a man called Wilkins.
I'm afraid thats all I can tell you. I'm interested to see that you belive there were 13 siblings - I am aware of only 11 (William, Charles,Rose,Ada,Henry,James,Helena, Herbert,Grace,Samuel,Henrietta,Stanley)Who were the other 2?

Allan
Is there any evidence for a marriage in Blockley in about 1834 for a Dinah Keen to Stephen Taplin? I know they were living in Blockley in 1851 and 3 youngest children were baptised there but cannot find a marriage record. Dinah was from Adlestrop I believe, illeg daughter of Alice Keen. If I can locate Dinah in Blockley before her marriage it may connect my Adlestrop/Lower Slaughter Keens with the Blockley ones.

Jon Baker

I have a picture of William, Sarah, and their children made about 1912. They had four daughters. I can't put names on them. Does anyone on this board descend from these two and might be able to identify them. Oliver Newton Keen is my grandfather - I can identify him, Holland, and Martin. If you will send me your e-mail I will send you image file.

Thanks,
Lomane

Hello my name is Phillip Ray Holmes and I am a descendant of Jasper Keen, who was the son of Pinkney M. Keen. The only sons of Pinkney that I can remember in my research was Jasper, and James (called Jimmy or Jim Keen). My mother is Jo Marie Keen Holmes, her father & mother were William Hillard & Eurah Nash Keen. William Hillard Keen's parents were Jasper Newton Keen & Agness Evaline Watkins Keen. Jasper Keen's parents were Pinkney M. Keen & Eliza Morris Keen. I will look at my records to see if I can find out who this Robert Keen was who was living with Grandpa Pinkney Keen. Pinkey keen had many daughter's too. But I want to know what relationship Robert Keen was to you first if you don't mind! I don't mind if you call me! Oh and Pinkney M. Keen was a Confederate War soldier
in The Civil War, and fought against the Yankee invaders!!

Phillip Ray Holmes
9800 Main Street
Enville, TN 38332

(731) 688-5467
(731) 879--0569

He's on the 1910 (I think) census as being 4 years old and living with his grandparents (Pinkney & Eliza Keen).
I don't know if there is any connection, but there was a family of Keens living in Irwinton, GA. His name was Willis Keen and he married Margaret Elizabeth Scott. He was born in 1823 and died in 1862 in Richmond, VA. I don't see a Sallie.
His Father was William Keen from North Carolina.
rekeen1@yahoo.com

Dear Michael,
I can't add much more information regarding Edward Keen. I believe he was living on Saints Lane, Haltwhistle in 1881. He married Ann Reay June 1872. I have no idea what happened to them after 1882.
The had 8 children. Two of them Bella and Hodge I do not know there birthdates. The remainder of them Maughan, Jane A, Joseph, Thomas W, Edward and Margaret Annie were born between 1871 and 1882.
I know that Hodge was in Victoria, BC, Canada in 1913 but have no record after that. I think he might have been here visiting his sister Margaret Annie. I know that Bella and Margaret Annie corresponded back and forth after Margaret Annie came to Canada as I have 4 postcards from different spots in Haltwhistle from Bella to her.
I also have some old photos of children who I have not been able to identify but know belong to the Keen family.

How do I fit in? Edward Keen and Ann Reay are my great-great grandparents. Their daughter Margaret Annie Keen born 1882 in Haltwhistle married Samuel Watson born 1979 (son of John Watson and Ann Barton). They were married in 1904 in Haltwhistle. They had two daughters Florence and Ann Gwendolyn (born 1909). Sam, Margaret and the 2 daughters immigrated to Canada before WW1 and moved to Victoria where Sam and Margaret lived for the rest of their lives. Their daughter Ann Gwendolyn became a school teacher, moved to Qualicum Beach, BC and met and married Fred Parker. Together they had 3 sons, the middle son being my father. I live 15 minutes away from where my parents live and my grandparents used to live. I am married with 2 grown children & 1 grandchild. I would be happy to provide more information but would want to do so privately via email with you directly rather than on this site where all can read as we prefer to not post any information on our living relatives at this time. Do you know how we might accomplish this?
Yes, I would also like to know what you found out about Joseph and Jane's parents.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kerry

Dear Kerry,
Lets hope that someone joins in on this correspondence. I am living in Driffield,East Yorkshire.Where are you?
I am positive that your Edward and mine are one and the same.I actually have Edward's birth certificate, which I had to get in order to establish his parents, because I could not find any birth for Mary Jane Keen---you will note from my earlier message that her birth was registered as Mary Jane Elliot.Edward was born at Highside,Hartleyburn on 17th July 1850--his parents shown as Joseph Keen,a Nailer, and Jane Keen, formerly Elliot.
The 1861 census shows Edward with his parents and siblings at Main Street,Haltwhistle. He is a scholar. In 1871,they were living at Kiln End,Main Street,Haltwhistle and Edward was taking after his father, being recorded as a nailmaker. In 1881,he is married with Annie and is shown as a Cartman or agricultural labourer. In 1891 he is still a cartman and the address looks like Williahs lane,Haltwhistle.I can find neither Edward or Annie in the 1901 census and wonder what happened to them.Do you know?
I hope this is useful to you. Do you want to know what I have found out about Joseph's and Jane's parents?
How do you fit into the family? Edward's older sister Mary Jane married Henry Dodd, a farmer,in 1871.They had one child,Jane Anne in 1872 and then Henry died of pleurisy in 1873. Mary Jane made a living as a milliner.
Jane Anne Dodd became a schoolteacher and married John Matthew Clark, a marine engineer . My mother,Gladys Margaret Clark was born in 1905 and married my father, Archibald Wedgwood at Haltwhistle in 1932. Dad was a mining engineer in Newcastle and I was born in Gosforth in 1934. I married in 1962 and have two children, girl and boy, and four grandchildren, all boys aged between 20 and 15.
Best wishes from Michael

Dear Michael,
Thank you for your reply. Edward Keen born 1851 in Haltwhistle - I have learned nothing more about his side of the family as far as his ancestors are concerned. It could be your Edward Keen as well. Interesting he and brother William born in same year. Do you know where anyone was living or occupations? My Edward in 1881 was living at Saints Lane, Haltwhistle. In 1904 his occupation was cartman. I have learned his wife's maiden name (Reay) and she was the daughter of Thomas Reay and Ann Maughan.
We see lots of times family names going through the generations and Edward did have a son Joseph and a Daughter Jane A which could have been named after Edward's parents.
This Edward Keen would have been my great-great grandfather.
Have you any more information that might confirm your Edward and mine are one and the same?
Good to get a response on the Keen side of the family - my first in 3 1/2 years!!
Best regards
Kerry

with regard to your messages in 2008 regarding Edward Keen, born in 1851,I have him in my family tree as the son of Joseph Keen and Jane Elliot. My great grandmother,Mary Jane Keen, born in 1847 was joseph and Jane's first child, born at Highside in the parish of Hartleyburn near Haltwhistle.Joseph and Jane had a third child,William, born 1851.Jane died in 1854 and then Joseph had 2 further children with Hannah Bell. I can find no evidence that Joseph ever married either Jane or Hannah. In fact,my great grandmother's birth certificate records her name as Mary Jane Elliot, and no father is shown.According to my further researches,Joseph's parentage is also a bit dodgy==but that is another story! I can add more if anyone wants to know.Regards from Michael Wedgwood

There are records in Russell County Virginia of Israel Keen. One is a record of property taxes, and one is a deed dated abt 1826 of the sale of property. It lists the wife, but the name is not Hannah. Give me a couple of days to go through my records, and I will give you the exact dates, and names if you are interested.
Israel appears after that time in Pike County KY, and living with him is an older man whom I believe to be Isreal Keen Sr.
