I have an old photograph of 3 children, Laura, Elsie and Walter S Keighley. Laura was born 1887, Elsie 1889 and Walter 1891. Believe their father was James Keighley born 1847 in Bradford. Mother was Mercy Allen. James's father was Charles Keighley born about 1811.
Unable to trace where any of these people fit into my side of the Keighley family but it must be close or why would we have a photo in our possession.
Any help in tracing any relatives would be appreciated.

Just found your message from 2007. I've been trying to reconcile my Keighley tree with that of J S Brear on Ancestry. My connection is through my mother's mother, Anne, born in 1866, daughter of Christopher Keighley (1818-91). He may have married twice. There are all sorts of problems; as you wrote, Keighleys are common in Yorkshire. Can we help each other?

The William Keighley referred to in my earlier post (b1819 d 1900) has an brother John Keighley (b1814 d 1962(7)) who married a Margaret Whittaker and had 5 children, Mary, Sarah Ann, Eliza, Harriet and Margaret Ann.

The name Illingworth comes up as a surname and a Christian name in my Keighley family tree.

I have a Maria or Ann Illingworth (b1854) married to a Joseph Keighley (b1854) with children Arthur W, Edith, Ada, Illingworth and Rhodes. Joseph is son to William Keighley (b1819 d1900) and Elizabeth Rhodes (b1820 d1902) and grandson to John Keighley (b1887 d 1866) and Sarah Hutton (b1787 d1866). John Keighley and Sarah Hutton are my GGGGGParents on my mother's side.

Trying to find John Keighley in 1841 or before, my GGGrandfather was born about 1813, 1851 census says he was born in Heaton Sike but he also lived in Idle, Windhill & later lived in Harden Bingley he died about 1867.
John was married to Mary children Hannah,Sarah Ann,Joseph my ggrandfather,Elizabeth,Suzannah,Illingworth.

My great Aunt Florence Keighley (b1893 d1925) is the closest name that I have. I believe that she didn't marry. My mother was named after her.

I now understand that Adelaide was born Adelaide Giles in Greenside, Durham circa 1869 to William (b 1831, Yeovil, Somerset) and Eliza (b1830 London). She also had a sister, Zilenda (an unusual name for that time) (b1864 Liverpool).

Her father was a stone mason in 1881 and the family lived in Haswell in Easington, Durham.

Adelaide was married to ?????? Telfer with whom she had one son, William Edmund Telfer (b 1897, Stockton Durham).

Adelaide married my GGGF, Francis William Raistrick Keighley in 1904.

We believe that she died around 1946.

I would interested to find out more about Adelaide and her son William

Does anyone have any info on Edward Charles Keighley, born 1847 at Tong or his father John born c. 1815 at Horton. Edward was a blacksmith, his father was an Agricultural Labourer. Edward married Mary Ann Blan.
I can't find any census entries at all for Edward for 1871 or 1881.
Just wondered if this tied in with anyone else's tree?

Researching family tree of my husband. His grandfather, Gordon Morton married a Florie Keighley in 1913. Her parents were Thomas Albert & Mary Ann. The 1901 Census has them living in Shipley at this time. Florie died in 1917. We have no other information. Would appreciate hearing if there is any connection. Pam Morton

I have not been able to progress past my GGF Thomas Keighley yet but I'm sure that there will be a common ancester there at some stage. My father and grandfather were both born in Thackley and I think that my great grandfather came from Windhill,so they are all local to Idle.
When I lived in Idle there were 2 other Keighley families in the village, Keighley's the butchers and Alf Keighley from Keighley & East Plumber's. Neither were directly related but I'm sure there is a common ancester there somewhere.

My name is Gordon Keighley Lawson. All of my Keighley links derive from Idle in Yorkshire. My GGGGGF, John Keighley was born in Idle in 1787, as was my GGGGGM, Sarah Hutton. I have not been able to trace my Keighley ancestors beyond that but believe there is a William somewhere.

John and Sarah had 8 children; Esther(1808), Mary(1810), Jemima(1812), John(1814), William (1819), Sarah (My GGGGM) (1821), Maria (1824) and Eliza (1827).

I was born in Idle in 1955. My father Thomas Peter Keighley was born in Thackley in 1923 and my grandfather George Harold Keighley was also born in Thackley c1889. His father was Thomas Keighley and I believe he came from Eccleshill.
All of them were Plastering and Building Contractors.
I have recently started to compile my family tree and would welcome any further information.

Looking for any info I can. We don't know much about her since my Great Grandpa, George G. Donnelly (Ireland abt 1893)didn't talk much. As far as we know she was born about 1896 in England. I have now been told by a contact that my Abraham Keighley b c 1765 (and m to Sarah nee Fairbank) is brother of Benjamin Keighley b c 1758 (and m to Rose Hainsworth).They were sons of John and Hannah nee Busfield.Does anyone have any info about this connection plse?
It could be as there is some intermarrying of Keighleys/Hainsworths and Busfields

I have traced my lineage back to John Keighley B c1788 M: Sarah Hutton 1806 Calverley (calverley site)
*Esther B:1808, Mary B:1810, *Jemima B:1812,
John B:1814, James B:1816, William B:1819,
*Sarah B:1821, Maria B:1824 & Eliza B: 1827.
I marked (*) those that i have with about 90% certainty are correct descendants mary i have found a marriage entry (calverley Site) but i have not progressed any further at this stage.
Sarah is my maternal ggg Grandmother and it appears she had a relationship with a Amos Raistrick (they never married) and produced my gg grandfather,
Francis William Raistrick Keighley B:1843
M:- Mary Ann Hooper 1866 Darlington they had three
sons Francis Charles William B:1867, Walter Thomas
B: 1869 & Arthur John B: 1871.
Francis is my G Grandfather & he M: Mary Ellen Nix 1891
Stockto-on-Tees, They had eight children
Elizabeth Ann B:1892, Francis William B:1894,
Walter (my Grandfather)B:1895, Henry B:1897,
Albert Ernest B:1899, Mary B:1900 Arthur Edward B:1902
& Ivy Ellen B:1906.
I could go on but i feel this is enough info for you to compare notes My grandfather as did Elizabeth & Henry Migrated to Australia and there is a large family base here now

www.calverley.info census and church records and lots more,
also try www.yorkshireindexers.co.uk and
Leeds city coucil website they have lots of links for family history.
My Keighleys, come from Farsley, West Yorkshire, I found a few link. Still on going project.
Please give names if not dates if you can this will be a help.

sorry but not familiar, but tell me; how far back have you traced your tree, i am of the opinion that all the Keighley,s and the variations in the spelling hail from KEIGHLEY. amd my aim is to prove this once i find all the relation from 18oo's i am going to research back as far as i can, but working from Australia via the web takes time, leanne as i type this reply i have a distant memory of coming across Edith Thurza, Thurza is such an unusual name, i will check my notes and ask the question of some of the cousins around the world and i will get back to you. my GGGG Grandparents and their children hail from Calverley/Idle area of West Yorkshire i have traced about 3 of them and i have very limited notes on the rest and its these notes that i think i came across Edith but please don,t get your hopes up it still could lead to naught.

Looking for a Rufus Keithley born about 1880-1900. Definitely from Missouri and could have been a teacher or a professor. Should have connections with Brawley or O'Brawley in Missouri. Possible connection with links to Gosnell also. I have looked at a lot of the Keithley trees and they don't have anything on Rufus. I'm not sure of anything but an undocumented connection with Pearl Emaline Brawley.

I have traced my fam tree of KEIGHLEYS to Abraham K m Sarah Fairbank at Calverley Parish Church in 1791.Iknow about his sons and daughters-my ancestor Abraham b 1806 m Rose Varley nee Hainsworth-(no not THAT Rose Hainsworth-but another) in Farsley c 1839
Received a recent comm from someone who believes Abraham (senior) was christened in Hunslet,Leeds 1762 and if correct is son of Benjamin K m to Mary Thornton 1755.However I'm not convinced if same as I have come across 3 other Abrahams of similar age-a-m Eliz Smith in Hunslet b-m MaryDriver in Keighley and c-m Ann Fooley in Rothwell,Yorks
There seems to be an awful lot of KEIGHLEYS in Yorks and beyond and a lot with same christian names and similar births etc.Would be grateful for any help

I have traced my Keighleys back definately to Abraham b 1806 Farsley son of Abraham & Sarah who m 1791 in Calverley Parish Church.I know about his bros and sis and he coincidentally m Rose Varley nee Hainsworth in 1839.Nothing further back and not apparently in Farsley/Calverley.
Received a recent comm from someone who believes Abraham is son of Abraham K christened Hunslet.Leeds in 1762-if so he is son of Benjamin who m Mary Thornton 7/12/1755

I am looking for further details on an Adelaide Keighley (nee Telfer) who I believe was the second wife of my GGGF, Francis William Raistrick Keighley. They were married in 1904. My GGGF died in 1919 but have no further trace of Adelaide Keighley after that. I am also unable to tie down Adelaide's birth date. Any information at all would be useful.

I have links to James (1802) & Martha nee Kershaw. They had seven children the eldest being John (1825) and the youngest being Nathaniel (1843). Most of the children were born at Guiseley, Yorkshire. James was a clogger by trade. He was also a fruiterer.
Here is James as listed in the census of 1841. The family are living at North Wing, Bradford, Yorkshire:

Francis WR (1843) - born out of wedlock & retained mother's maiden name
Arthur John (1871)
John Lackenby (1900)
Florence (1930) - My mother
Gordon - I retain my mother's maiden name as a middle name
Arthur - my 3rd son retains Keighley as a middle name

My GGgrandfather William Keighly Kierulf was born in the Philippines in 1822, educated in Denmark around 1836 and went to India where he spent the rest of his life as an apothecary in the Madras Bangalore area.

While we have a great deal of information about his father in the Philippines and his family in India, little is known about his mother.

She was married in the Philippines to William Duntzfelt Kierulf in about 1820/1 and is named in the Kierulf family history as Nancy Reilly. She apparently died as her husband married again in 1824/5.

We think it is possible that her name was Keighly.

If anyone has information that a Keighly family may have been living in the Manila area around 1820/5 period we would be most interested to hear from them.

A record in Marion Co., SC, written by Peter Keighley & concerning the underage children of Henry Calcote.

This Henry Calcote/Calcot was a brother of James Calcote, AND my Gr.Gr. Gr. Grandfather, John Calcote, a Rev. Soldier living in the PeeDee River area of SC & serving under Gen Francis Marion, "The Swamp Fox".
We think this Peter Keighley was a brother of "Sarah", who was the wife of Henry Calcote, since Peter calls the children of Henry Calcote, "cousins", in this recorded county instrument, see below:
