My grandmother, Ora Conway, was best friends with Alberta Dancer in Lamoni, Iowa. Alberta married Winfred Bishop Kelley. They had twins Harold and Howard and at least one other son, Wendell, and there are also pictures of "baby Wayne." I would love to get these into the hands of their families. They are precious pictures, just not precious to me. Ann E.

Any information on twin daughters Minnie and Jennie born 1902 in Saltillo, Arkansas would be appreciated. Their parents are William C Kelley (1864-1908) and Martina Cole Kelley (1871-1907). Trying to find out who raised them after their parents died. Their older siblings were living with their Uncle Miles Kelley in 1910.

i have a theory that i would like to propose to you

daniel kelley of 1790 greenville that lived next to richard kelley of 1790 greenville received 1/2 of a tract of land from his mother ann according to some records of daniel I think from looking at all the evidence that i have, that both richard and daniel are sons of richard born 1736 and as such, he named some of his sons after his uncles and himself and is is the son who married maria gibbs - daughter of the gibbs next to them in 1790 - i have also found references that say that daniel also married a gibbs - therefore richard born 1736 married susanna and richard born somewhere about 1748 a sibling of daniel and probably gershom - as gershom signed the gift of 1/2 of a piece of land to daniel (ann?susanna?) is listed as a widow then.

this is my theory. I wish i had access to land grants, and wills to veirify this

any thoughts -

still hit a stone wall at nathan's true father narrowed down to probably johnathan as my best guess as long as joel's reported history is correct in his history book as to the family bible report

thanks jerry

Hi Janie,

My name is Kellie Russell, and my grandmother was Bertha Kelley, daughter of James and Matilda Kelley. I've been searching to know more about my family and connect with others, and I appreciate the information you have submitted. I scanned some copies of pictures that were given to me by Patsy Cain, daughter of John Mack Kelley, Bertha's brother. Do you have other pictures that have not been added yet? I would love to know more. I'm also trying to figure out if we have any Native American connections in our family. A cousin told me that our grandmother (Bertha) had talked about being Indian, but from the looks of our lineage, I don't see it?

My number is 918-557-7000 and my email is kellie.russell@cox.net if you would like to visit. I live in OK and I'm realizing I may have lots of family here!

Kellie
Kelley/Kelly is also very common in UK. I've traced my line back to Foleshill in Warwickshire currently. I believe one of the reasons that the Kelley spelling is common Stateside is that many of the non-conformists from the West Country - particularly Cornwall, favoured this spelling. Hence were early settlers to follow the original Mayflower Pilgrims.

Various research has shown that in the days prior to widespread literacy the spelling of a family name, and indeed forename, was down to the interpretation of the local registrar, curate, vicar, sexton, or parish clerk.

Milley Kelley -- b. May 1828 in TN

I am searching for information regarding Milley Kelley (born May 1828 in Tennessee and died January 1904), married Leander T Jackson (born 22 February 1826 in North Carolina and died August 1865 in Dekalb County, TN, he was 29 at death if my information is correct) on 2 August 1852. They had five or six children, I believe all in DeKalb County, with my connection being Charles Burton Jackson 1860-1937. Leander and Milley are my g-g-grandparents and I would love to know more about Milley. I have hit a brick wall and need information that could help me find her parents and/or siblings.

Thanks
M. Baggett, TN
Paula,

isn't it odd I had a post on this chain that was never responded to and my initial hunch was correct, after dna testing my uncle, it proved I was on the right track. I am really interested now in this new line with Patsy Kelley (which happens to also be my mom's name coincidentally). Glad we have something new to research and look into.

Joel

They are from the Jackson Ohio area. I'm looking for any connection to Emma, I know her father fought died and was buried in Gettysburg in July 1863, she was born about a month after he died. I am trying to find her parents name. Since the Porthmouth area was mentioned in this post I was wondering if maybe these are the same Kelley's I am looking for?

Emma Kelley in Ohio

Looking for information on a Emma Kelley whom married George Wasmer in Jackson Ohio. She was born in 1863 shortly after her father was killed in Gettysburg. Looking for the names of her parents or siblings or any info I can find. She had three children named Fredrick, Ilo, and George Kelley Wasmer. George Kelley Wasmer is my grandfather. Emma owned a bar in Jackson Ohio, in the Jamestown area. George Wasmer ran off and left town shortly after George Kelley Wasmer was born. We believe he ended up in Stark County Ohio. As a family we have ensured that the Kelley name has remained. George Kelley was named after Emma's father which she never knew, my father was named after his father and I was named after my father. We have done this because we knew it was important to Emma. Now we are desperately trying to find out everything we can about her and her family because we feel it is just as important. Please if anybody has any info we would be grateful for your help.

I am transcribing obituaries from our local newspaper archives (Scotia, Nebraska).

The Scotia Register
Volume XXXIII, Thursday, April 14, 1927, pg. 1, column 5
B. Mr. Kelley had practically made his home in Scotia for the past thirty years or so and his death will be keenly regretted by his many friends here.
As the Register goes to press, the funeral arrangements are not known.
Volume XXXIII, Thursday, April 21, 1927, pg. 1, column 2
BYRON M. KELLEY
Byron M. He leaves to mourn his loss two sisters, Mrs. Maud Woodmousy and Mrs. Rose Aldrich, also four nieces.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church last Friday morning and interment was made in the Mount Hope cemetery.

Julie Middendorf
mjmiddendorf@nctc.net

Paula Kelley Ward, it is done.

Nina Lee Lyons Hughes and Betty Kelley Joswiak had some correspondence, but I do not think Betty received many of the actual records, if any. It is known that Betty suggested to Nina that she would do a good service to write a book. It seems that NLLH may have shared some quality with Lymon C Draper, in her enthusiasm for the search rather than the product. She is said to have laughed, responding that her children would just have to get the stuff from her computer after she was gone.

It doesn't seem to me that her children are out here. Would you happen to know who they are?

Regards,
Tim Joswiak

Thank you, Paula Kelley Ward. It is nice to "meet" you!

One would agree with the primary sources, yes.

I had been curious as to why Nina Lee Lyons Hughes had a differing assertion. She was known to my mother, Betty Kelley Joswiak, and they corresponded during the 1970's. Betty, a careful researcher, considered Nina Hughes' research to be of a high standard. It was said that Nina called the intensive research done during her summers, "my magnificent obsession." Her catchphrase seemed to be, "Yes, but, where's the proof?"

The "David thing" of Nina's kind of threw Betty off. One wonders what sorts of documents Nina may have found.

Regards,
Tim Joswiak
