There are about 100 Kelling entries of death notices and obits. found in "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items", from 1844-1950. These include a Johann, John and John W., and a John & Mathilda (Messerschmidt).

These have been indexed in an original project since 2007, which continues today. Look-ups available via email.
gary.rebholz@gmail.com

Hmmm...sounds very familiar. My great-grandfather was Johannes (John) Kellinghausen. He was born in Osnabruck, Germany 19 May 1860 (he had 8 siblings); he married Wilhemina (Minnie) Windmann March 18, 1889 in Long Island City, NY. His father's name was Paul Anton Kellinghausen and his mother's name was Elsie Wolffe (Wolf?). I know John & Minnie Kellinghausen lived in Tilson, NY (upstate NY - owned a boarding house) in their later years.
Can you tell me anything else about your relatives?
Dorothy, I have several pages of ancestral information about Peter, who married Anna C. Davis in 1915. My records show he was born in Meadville, PA in 1871. His father, John, immigrated to the U.S. from Prussia (now Germany) with his parents and six brothers and sisters in 1844. I am a descendant of John's brother, Joseph.

I see your message was written 2 years ago.
Dear Beth,
Your sister Jennifer said that you may have some information on a Johann Gottlieb Kelling. He married a Justena H.L. Bredlow. They were from Germany, settled in WI (Monroe County) first and then moved on to Waseca County in MN. I know that they were married in Germany but have no idea exactly where they came from. My BREDLOWS are from Brandenburg Province. Are your Kellings from that area? Both Johann and Justena were born in 1830. They died in the 1920s, don't have my info in front of me right now. Is there a Johann Gottlieb Kelling in your paper work anywhere?
Donna Cook
DJEC1944@aol.com

the only variation of Kelling in our history, of the Kellings of Milwaukee-from Germany is Kuelling. we have been traced back to Nueromberg, G. and from the swiss boarder. hope that helps a little. Maybe of the Kellings who don't have any kellinghams. Good Luck on your search. Beth Kelling

I had written previously about Henrique Kelling, the one who had fallen during a construction job. Walter G Kelling from the book "Men of Milwaukee," Henrique was his father. They had put together the company Kelling-Smith Inc. They mainly had specialized in wood working, sashes, cabinets, and such. Walter can be viewed in the "Men of Milwaukee" at the Milw Hist Soc.
Henrique's death was very unfortunate.

This has been a fun exploration. My sister, Jennifer, told me about this site.
If anyone would like to see the documents I have, Ludwig and Johann, just drop me an email address and I will send them to you. They take a lot of K's, but it is fun viewing original documents. I also have the Ludwig Kelling document xeroxed from the time I was at the Hist Soc.
I had also found a Kelling family from the east side of Milwaukee, appx 1st and Richards, who had also come from Germany in the late 1800's.
Their history was sort of sad tho. The daughter, Elsie, of Henrique and Dorthea Kelling had committed suicide in 1904. She lived just 18 years and had been working at the hide manufacture making leather products. Others of her family worked a farm in Theinsville. If you have access to archives of the Milwaukee Journal, you can find the story of her death in the March 6th or 7th news paper of 1904.
Henrique died appx 12 years later when fell off of a four story building, the sanitarium on Blue Mound road in Milw.
I guess this seems sort of morbid. but my prayers go out to this Kelling family of old.
The graves of this family are in the Union Cemetary on Tetonia and Burliegh ave in Milw.
Henrique and Dorthea have a pretty large light grey stone to mark their resting place.
God Bless that Kelling family and the unfortunate incidents that had occured.
