C.S. Kellog, Froze to Death, Reno NV, 2/2/1898

FROZEN TO DEATH

RENO (Nev)- February 3- C.S. Kellog, an old resient of Churchill County, aged 76 years, was found frozen to death a short distance from his cabin in the Silver Hill Range of the mountains. He had been prospecting on a claim and started home, but was overtaken by a snowstorm, and presumably lost his way. When found, he was frozen stiff. Kellog built the first quartz mill ever put in Gold Canyon where Silver City now stands. He had been offered large sums for his prospects, but refused all sums.

Sacramento Bee 2/3/1898

Kellog - Bonney

"Two Bonney brothers married two sisters and both couples set out from somewhere in the east with a wagon train, to Oregon. En route, one Bonney brother died, and the wife of the other brother died. The remaining spouses married each other, and combined the children of both families. Sarah Bonney was two years old when this trip began. They reached this territory; settled in Seattle area where the Bonney family has become well known.
When Sarah Bonney, born about 1836 or 1837, grew up, she married Gardner Kellog, first Seattle Fire Chief and owner of first drug store in Seattle. They had two sons. Edward and Charles Wright Kellog, born 1868. Charles married Louisa Melinda (Hatton - maiden name) Brown in San Francisco in the year 1915." Louisa, who was a widow had one daughter from her previous marriage, named Helen Hatton Brown who was born October 11, 1902. All of the information inside the quotation marks, is from a handwritten family record book, written by my Grandma, Helen Hatton Brown Gale. I have found no other names, dates, places, etc., at this time in any of her journals, but I will keep looking! If any of this sounds like it rings a bell, please let me know! Contact me, Nancy, at: Soggy-Kitten@worldnet.att.net Thank you kindly!!

The Vermont Dumas was Julien and he came from Chambly, Canada to Waitsfield, VT as a young adult. His son was Edwin Dumas, born in Waitsfield.
