I'll take a look at it, may have been a brother, an uncle, not necessarily his father. Reallyl needs to be looked at closer before putting either Jacob or Stephen down as his father. But, know that Freeman had a brother Chester Beldon Kellogg. This Beldon name follow along with the line of Kelloggs that would put Stephen Kellogg m. to Rebecca as the grandson of Stephen m. to Mindwell Belden I guess we need a lot more research on this.
Dont know about James J. Kellogg, but James S. Kellogg is the son of Stephen Kellogg and Rebecca Odell. James S. Kellogg is the brother of Freeman Kellogg. James died in Rock Co. Wisconsin in 1881 and was m. three times: To Caroline Cheney Wilson, Hannah Cheney and Sabrina Greenlett

Their father was Stephen. It is probable that Stephens father and mother were Stephen Kellogg m. to Thankful Button.

Still having trouble proving that James S. Kellogg's father (Stephen KEllogg who was m. to Rebecca Odell)'s parents were Stephen and Thankful Button Kellogg...... need documentation that proves that
Stephen Kellogg father of James died 3-13-1848. I think it was about that time that James S. KEllogg went to wisconsin.
Bottom Line: Who were the parents of Stephen Kellogg who died in 1848??
So far, my tree only has 2 people named James Kellogg. One is my youngest son. The other is my uncle. My tree is public though, so feel free to look around as you begin to research. Also, another great resource is a book called 'The Kelloggs in the Old World and the New'. According to that, almost every Kellogg can trace their tree back to one of 3 immigrant brothers.

Another hint that may help get a quicker response from the research department of a distant library: try sending along legal sized envelope, stamped and self-addressed with your query. I also usually send along a check for ten or fifteen dollars made payable to the library. Many times it is returned, but it always gets a response.

Another possibility: You could try emailing the reference departments of libraries near where she lived (or died) to ask if they have obit indexes or obit databases, etc...

The reference departments will help you no matter where you live -- at least that's been my experience. :)

Since there sounds as if there's some confusion with the other trees, you should research her yourself. That's the only way that you rely on the information.

Get her death certificate! That should have her parents, and that info is likely to be accurate...

If she has known siblings, get their death certificates to see if they match.

Try to locate an obituary, marriage record, marriage announcement, birth records (often available through church records) etc. etc.

DO NOT DEPEND ON OTHER PEOPLE'S TREES! You can't assume that they knew what they were doing at the time.
Elizabeth was recorded as the daughter of David and Harriett (Unknown) Ostrander.

This is her death date.

I'd guess that she probably was born and lived in Livingston County, NY.

Suggestions:

1. Study the 1840 census there carefully - only seven Heads of Households listed for the county. Look for females whose age would fit Elizabeth's.

2. Study the 1850 census there carefully - there is a young Kellogg girl in Nunda. Possible sister of Elizabeth?

Does Elizabeth's Wisconsin death certificate (if any) offer any clues about parentage?

Good luck!

I think I've tracked down Susie Nicholson. I found a Susan Barber, born 1854 in Ohio, who married Robert Warner Nicholson 2 August, 1874, in Adrian, Mich. They later moved to Toledo,OH, where Robert worked as a painter at the Milburn Wagon Company. Robert apparently moved back to Michigan and died there. I'll get all my info put together for you. I also can get you info on Jane Milburn if you want it.
