Abel was married to Lucy Kilborn of CT and had children Lucy, Abel Jr, Ira, Louisa, Philena, and Nancy.

They were all local to me, and most are buried in the north Russell cemetery, about 4 miles down the road from where I live. I have information from Abel's bible, and the Walrath family bible, as well as land deeds, wills, etc. I have tons and tons of information.

In addition, Abel's brother Charles had a son Samuel who lived locally. I have lots of information on Samuel's family as well, if you are interested.

I'll look further into Sylvester, but I feel like I got his info from the Barbour collection. It won't be tonight--I'm whacked.

I would love to see what you have as far as a descendant chart for Charles and Hannah.! My e-mail is jpflugheber@yahoo.com. Thanks so much!
Jill

This fits in well. I have 5 children--no Sylvester for
Charles and Hannah. As for Abel, I show he married Lucy
Kilburn and had 6 children among them Ira. I show Ira
died 21 jan 1902 in NY, that he married Mary --- 5 Oct 1837
and had a son, name unknown. That Kelsey son married and
had a daughter, Emily Kelsey born 1867 in NY.
From Charles and Hannah I have a good descendant chart of
11 pages which I could easily send you if I had your email
address. I have not succumbed to joining Ancestry.com
as yet, but you can find my email address on my website,
http://webspace.webring.com/people/ks/sjkelsey
and send me a request and I will send it to you.

William, Stephen, John, Charles, Charles, all in The Kelsey Kindred. The second Charles, born 1745, was married to Hannah Filer or Flier, and they lived in Litchfield CT. Charles and Hannah had 6 children: Mabel (1772-1875, yes 103 years old, my 4th GGmother), Charles, Moses, Abel, Sylvester, and Reuben.

Mabel married William Hubbard, and they moved to northern NY.
Charles 1773-1852 married Lois King. They also moved to northern NY.
Moses 1778-1840, don't have much info on him, but I think he remained in CT
Abel 1781-1864 married Lucy Kilburn and moved north. They are Ira's parents and they all resided within 2 miles of where I now live.
Sylvester 1784-1846 died in Leroyville NY--I don't know where that is.
Reuben 1786-1864 married twice and also moved to northern NY.

It appears to me that this is where the Kelsey Kindred left off. There is a ton of data in CT in regards to the family, then they all disappear--unless you know where to look for them. I have found TONS of interesting stuff in the local archives--some old family bibles and the like. I have followed land purchase records and wills, and have quite a bit of data from this family grouping if you are interested.

Let me know how this all fits with what you have!

I agree with you that the Ira who married Caroline Allen and
perhaps later, Catherine, is not the one of whom you are asking about. You say you have the descent from William--I would appreciate having them which may help me some. I cannot
find either your Ira nor Abel. I extracted ALL of the data in all of the Kelsey Kindred volumes some years ago and provided the Kindred with the data on disc which they were to put online---it seems they never have completed that.
That descent would add to my data and I could see where you fit in.
Thank you.
Ira lived here in NNY, owned land here, and he and his wife are buried here.

I imagine they could be from the same family line--I found lots of info on thekelseykindred.org

J

Hi, I have Ira Kelsey married to Caroline E. Diantha Allen in April 1832 at Clay, Missouri.
Although I don't have any info on him, she was born 1808 in Whitestown, Oneida, NY daughter of Dr. Daniel Allen (Sr.) and Nancy Agnes Stewart Allen. Knowing that she came from New York, Could he be the same guy?

I really appreciate it. My great, great grandfather was Louis Harrison Kelsey. (1872-1930) was married to Eva Z Irwin. I know it was Z but a lot of the stuff I'm seeing has it listed as B. They had several kids including Joseph, George, Robert, Martin (My grandpa - Married to Mabel Barnett), Alvin, David, Sarenia, Cecilia, and Catherine.

I think his dad was John S. Kelsey who was married to Serena Etna Frazier.

I have some great old documents from Louis Harrison and Eva, Chattel Mortgages, His WWI draft card, etc. I have them scanned if you are interested in seeing them.

Thanks for the help
Marty

Hi Nikkia, if you could leave a little more information about where you are and your first names of family would be a big help. There are Kelsey's all over the US and other countries, I'm in Ky. but they came through many other states over time. Let me know if I can help.

I also have a question about Kelsey's on my Grandma's side. I just wondered if there is a way to tell if they are related on both sides. The Kelseys that I have on that side are all from around the Connecticut area. I would love to find as much info about the ones on that side as I can to get it all filled in.

I have been desperately and to no avail for my grandfather's side of the family. My grandfater was married to Estella Pauline Wheeler. Guessing that marriage date would have been about 1940 and since the children were born in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, I am figuring the marriage was some place close to there as her family was all around that area too. We know that his name was Charles Kelsy and that they were only together for a few years. They had several children before he left. She then moved at a later time to Washington State. Any help on info with grandpa or family would be great!!! I want to be able to pass something on to my children about my grandparents. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

Hi Betsey, I have an Erasmus D Kelsey in my line. I have been able to trace his parent in 1 civil war document that indicates John Kelsey is his father and Betsey Teeter is his mother. Father (John) is from NY and Mother (Betsey) is from PA. I hit a wall after that. I am not sure who Erasmus' siblings are. Erasmus was born 1811. Another bit of info I find is that sometimes they will name their children after a father (i.e. junior) or a grandfather. A good example is my brother is John who is named after our great grandfather John Kelsey. John Kelsey's great grandfather is...John Kelsey.

Cambridge was initially settled by a William Kelsey B 1600, m Bethia Hopkins, in Braintree England. William also established Hartford CT and Killington CT. I found lots of Kelsey information through the Barbour Collection, CT vital records. It gives LOTS of information and connections from 1634 up to the late 1800's. Look under Killingworth vital stats. If you begin a family tree for him, you will find tons of Ancestry.com hints with family records and full genealogy books on the descendants of WIlliam Kelsey. Perhaps this will hep you.

He is buried in a very small cemetery in North Russell, next to my 4th GGrand uncle, Abel Kelsey b 1781. I have traced my Kelsey roots back to William Kelsey, who settled Cambridge, MA as well as Hartford CT and Killington, CT.

One fact that is interesting is Robinson John Turner Kelsey may have married his sister...and I have not been able to contradict that with any sources yet. That will take some more time as well.

The artist may well be John Kelsey, b 1827 who lived for some tine as a lodger in Herstmonceaux, Surrey.

More to come, Nick

KELSEY John Edward 1942-2011 Columbus, Ohio

KELSEY John Edward Kelsey, age 69, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, following a lengthy battle against cancer. He was born March 3, 1942 in Lancaster, Ohio; the first son to the late Raymond H. and Lucille A. Kelsey.
Jack, as he was known to his family (to his everlasting irritation), grew up on Lilley Avenue in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Holy Rosary High School in 1960.
He joined the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school so that he could see the world.
He spent time as an air traffic controller both during and after his years of service and for the rest of his life could always name any machine in the air by sound alone.
A creative and intelligent man, he spent 24 years working for General Electric Superabrasives and held a number of patents. Jack followed his own path.
He truly enjoyed his family and shared a special bond with his sister, Pat.
He loved birds and classical music. He was a great intellectual and a "jack of all trades" and could teach anybody how to do just about anything, but woe to the person who interrupted him during the lesson!
Jack was a bright light who will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Lou Bedard and Christina Horner, and his brother-in-law Emile Bedard.
He is survived by his son, David (Celeste); daughter, Rachel; brothers, Joseph, Timothy (Audrey), Mark (Betty), Robert (Margaret), William (Cynde); sister, Patricia Davis; his much beloved grandchildren, Lauren, Trenton, and Erin; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Friends may call 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road.
Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 E. North Broadway.
Family interment at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
Thank you Nick. I have in fact already found this site. Yvonne & I share an Ancestry subscription & I posed a query on the anke site some time ago, under my own name of Daevid Hook. A number of my relatives worked at the brewery & also at The Kelsey family home. My cousin has a painting of his Grandfather executed by a J.Kelsey - he is keen to discover who this was. We should also like to know if there are any records extant of the workforce in the 1940s & any details about a terrible accident to an employee named Bert.
Anything that you can dig up would be most helpful

Do you have any info about his parents, siblings, or possibly older children? I am trying to find ancestry of John S(P?) Kelsey living in Adams county Illinois in 1870, born 1832 in New York. Could he be a son of your Henry? (John Kelsey named on of his sons Henry.)

I have information on some Kelseys in Camden County and Sheridan County in the late 1800's and early 1900's. They could be connected. John S Kelsey and Serena (Frazier) Kelsey with 12 children.

Hi John, So sorry it has taken some time to thank you for the Splan information. It is very helpful in putting people in birth order and possibly continuing the search! I took my grown kids to St. Rosa Lima Cemetary, Short Hills, NJ a few years ago to look for family headstones. I took pictures of any headstones I knew or thought to be related. I can share pictures if you'd like. Thanks very much for your reply and information! I'm sure I have more quetions, as I usually do!

Donna

DLKS61@optonline.net

There is a photo and a long biography of Samuel Truman Kelsey on Findagrave.com. Katherine Elizabeth Ricksecker also has one. I am not related. Their son Dr. Harry Estes Kelsey of Baltimore married Eva Pauline Hamill. Pauline's grandfather married my great-aunts Sylvia Hunt and also Isabella Hunt.
