Try George Washington Kemmerer.

Kemery is sometimes an anglicized version of Kemmerer, similar to Manning being an anglicized version of Manion / Manyon / O'Manyon.

When 'Bert Kemery moved to Alberta circa WW I there was a lot of strong sentiment against German names.

Even the British Royal family changed their name, to Windsor.

John Kemery Sr and John Kemery Jr and Gladys Kemery

John Kemery was born Apr 1858 in Missouri and moved to Hyde county, SD in 1885. I believe his parents, William and Jemima (?) and two of his sisters, Sarah and Catherine, also moved to SD. John married Clara Wharton Baker on 20 Mar 1916 in Hand county, SD and they had two children, Gladys and John Robert. John Sr and Clara were divorced in the 1920's. John Sr died on 5 Sep 1933 in Hyde county, SD. Does anyone have any knowledge of John Sr, John Jr, Gladys or Clara?
Thank you

He had 5 siblings Beulah Mcafee, Frankie Kemery, Preston Kemery, Palmer Kemery ( my grandfather on my mother's side) and Carrie Weston. Does this sound right to you.

Mandi van Almen

Robert:

Thanks for your reply. My mother always told me that originally our name had been Kemmerer, but don't know that for certain.

My great grandfather's name was Isiah Kemery and was born on July 26,1850 according to the family Bible. It doesn't say where he was born, however. He was married to Jessie Jane Milliron on Jan. 20, 1876 and had five children: Dora Belle b. Mar.17,1877; Grace Alice b. Nov.4,1881; Claude Ellsworth(my grandfather)b. Aug.13,1885; Mattie Mae b. Sept. 18,1888; and Harold Cordee b. Nov.30,1895.

I have pictures of Kemery headstones from Sherman Cemetery, Bethlehem Twp, OH. This is between and just south of Canton/Massillon, OH. The Kemery farm was in Perry Twp, and I have a picture of the map from the 1875 Atlas of Stark County. Headstones include: Adam & Mary, Jacob & Ann Maria, Joseph/George (children), Anna (Shreffler), John. These are largely unreadable today, but I also have B&W pictures taken in the 1950's when they were yet very clear. Also from Massillon Cemetery, William & Lydia A., and Jacob & Mary. Will email to anyone interested in Kemery family.

Kelly,

My name is Deborah Kemery Pitzl. Mattie Oldham Kemery Walters was my great grandmother. You didn't mention my grandfather, Theodore, who was Mattie's second son.

I'm assuming you are the oldest daughter of Warren? I never met you, but I used to visit your grandparents, Tony and Denny in Portland prior to Grandma Walters' death. Your sister Carrie lived with them so I was acquainted with her when she was very young.

I know quite a bit of Kemery history, but more importantly, can send you on to real family historians.

Hope to hear from you soon.

I have been a mushroom for quite some time, and am wondering if anyone has any solid info on this family???
Mattie Ellen Oldham/Walters who was born Nov. 19, 1877 in South Dakota, and died Sept. 1971 in Portland, Oregon was my Grandfathers (Antoine Kemery) Grandmother.
Mattie had four sons: Charles Kemery of Denver, Archie Walters of Platte, SD, Robert Walters of Neb., and Doug Walters of South Dakota. A Daughter Sarah Kemery of Billings. Mattie also had a sister Anna Shuck of San Diego.
Matties Father was Nick Oldham, ferry operator.
So many of my elder family members on the Kemery side are gone. Only two are left here, one in prison and one who knows little.
Any one with any info, please email me. I'm so afraid of not having the complete and accurate info to pass down to my children. Time is an issue.
I will share all that I have, including official documents and photos....
Thankyou!
