"True Tales of Central Texas" by Willie Kemp

I am willing to pass on a self published book by Willie Kemp, son of Anna Agnes Ross & Louis Cass Kemp. He relates tales of family and life in the Travis County Texas community of Merriltown from the late 1800's through the mid 1900's. It's told as if one were just sitting on the front porch listening to a conversation.

If you are kin to these folks and would like this book, please let me know.

T.J. Clayton

Willie's grandparents:
James Barnett Kemp & Eliza Saphronia Woodward, whose family was about 7 girls, 2 boys.

Willie's Great Uncle, his Grandfather's brother:
Samuel Barnett Kemp, Chief Justice of the Hawaiian Supreme Court.

I am looking for information on Will or Willie Kemp of the Pinehill, Lone branch, Henderson, Rusk County area in texas. I don't know much about my mothers family. Will Kemp is the father of Rose Lillie (Zilley) Kemp, whom is my grandmother. The story supposedly is that my grandmother mother Alena Everett and Will or Willie Kemp never married but I would love to find out more about my family. My grandmother was born in 1900 in Pinehill, and my great grandmother Arlena supposedly worked for the Kemp Family as a cook. My grandmother supposedly had several sisters. I have no other information other than Arlena Everette was born something in 1875 and Will or Will Kemp around about or near the same time. Any information would be appreciated.

Does anyone has a William Kemp in their family tree?
Son of Lucille Kemp
Died 29-09-1912, Battersea aged 4 months.

I am researching the Kemps in Wandsworth. My great grandfather, James Cecil, was born 12-12-1913, son of James Ditchfield Kemp and Mabel Hall.
I am interested in any information about the two people above plus their ancestors (and decendants of James.)

Are they related in any way, or two separate Kemp families that lived in the same area?

James Kemp, wife Barbara/Barbary, Frederick Co., VA

I am looking for any information about James Kemp, with wife Barbara/Barbary, living in Frederick Co., VA, when he died in 1790's. He had land on the "drains of Crooked Run, a branch of Shenahoah River". Their children were Mary, Sally, Barbara, John and James. It is daughter Barbara that was my ancestor (she married first Thomas Cooke, then Richard Hankins, and ended up in Bledsoe Co., TN). I would love to find a marriage record for James and Barbara, her maiden name, or anything else of the family prior to 1790.

Mary Ann Kemp born around 1852. Family is said to have come from Cornwall, & possible that her family disowned her at some stage.
Mary Ann at some time married a Samuel Charles Styles but it is possible that she may have married a Humphrey Sullivan around 1883. May have given birth to a daughter Mary Eliza 1883.
Mary Ann died around 1917 in Tottenham UK.
I know nothing of her parents/siblings.
KEMPs of Lands End Cornwall 1800s

I just saw a picture of my Jane KEMP's parents (no other names listed that "Grandmother TUCKERs parents in Landsend Cornwall). She is my brickwall. Are there any KEMP's out there who may have some information for me. She immigrated in 1882 to USA and married Joseph TUCKER in Pennsylvania. She listed her birthday as February 6, 1855 but I suspect the year is wrong. I have had a search of England Birth records done but there were no matching Janes. No other information is available. She didn't leave much of a trail.

Kemp - Richardson wedding announcement - Maryland

This announcement was clipped and pasted into a journal (mostly of national news) from the estate of my late grandmother who resided in Frederick, Maryland. Most of the articles were not labeled with dates, and some were not in order. Therefore, the date listed may not be accurate. I am not related to the families mentioned, but I thought this might be of interest to those who are.

Stacy

------

THE DAILY TIMES
SATURDAY, NOV. 24, 1883

LOCAL NEWS
Hymenial.

Cards are out announcing the marriage of Mr. Lawrence B. Kemp, formerly of this city, and Miss Helen Richardson, a Baltimore belle. Larrie’s many friends in this city wish him and his prospective bride many years of happiness.
Looking for my KEMP ancesters, in particular William Miller KEMP (1814-1886) (He was my gg grandfather). [I was named for his son George Theophilius KEMP (1861-1925). Since my dad didn't like the name 'Theophilus', he and mom compromised on the name 'Amelung' for my middle name!]

William Miller KEMP married twice: 1st to Susan JOHNSON and 2nd to Emma AMELUNG. My ggrandfather was William Frederick Amelung KEMP son of William Miller KEMP and Emma AMELUNG.

Who were William Miller KEMP's parents??

My Aunt tells me that William Miller KEMP's parents were Col. Henry KEMP & Susan MILLER, but I have not found a 'WilliamMiller' listed as a son under Henry KEMP & Susan MILLER any where.

I found the marriages of Henry KEMP to(1) Susan MILLER (m. 19 May 1794) and to(2) Margaret MATHEWS (m. 10 Mar 1781) recorded on a database of Maryland Marriages, 1778-1899, posted on ancestry.com, August, 2000. Unfortunately this database doesn't list parents or children of the couples, just their marriage date.

Can anybody help?

- George

Edward and Lousia Kemp lived in spreighton road, West Molesey in 1871 and William Beasor boarded with them. William went on to have a son James John Beasor who gave the middle name Kemp to two of his sons. William was my great great grandad. Any info would be much appreciated.

William Kemp, bap Feb 1881 Cork, Co. Cork, Ire>NYC 1908

We have a William Kemp in our Cork Ireland family who was baptized at St. Mary's Shandon Roman Catholic Church in Cork on 26 Feb 1881 and came to the US in 1905. A passenger list entry says that he was in New York city from 1905-1907, went back to Cork for almost a year, then came back to New York in May 1908. Family legend says that he was in the San Francisco earthquake in 1906 and stayed in the US (no location known) after he returned in 1908. He went back to Cork in 1928 to witness the marriage of his brother, Henry John. He probably died between 1937 & 1945. He was a son of William Abraham Kemp and Sarah Daly and his siblings were Mary Ellen (born 1863), Alice (b.1869), Oscar and his twin Isabelle Agnes (b.1871)and Henry John (b.1884).

Many thanks for any information.
This "Will" Kemp is listed on the SSDI but without a birthplace or a specific place of death or last address in California. The index says that he got his SS card in Mississippi. Does anyone know who he was? Did he marry? Children?

We have a William Kemp in our Cork Ireland family who was baptized in a Catholic church there on 26 Feb 1881 in Cork city and came to the US in 1905. A passenger list entry says that he was in New York city from 1905-1907, went back to Cork for almost a year, then came back to New York in May 1908. We don't know what happened to him after that but family legend says that he stayed in the US. He was a son of William Abraham Kemp and Sarah Daly and his siblings were Mary Ellen (born 1863), Alice (b.1869), Oscar and his twin Isabelle Agnes (b.1871)and Henry John (b.1884).

Wondering if "Will" and "William" are the same person - without spending $30 for his SS application!

Thanks,
Teresa Purvis

Susan Davis (Davis married name) Possibly KEMP? in Florida?

Looking for connection between ELIZABETH KEMP and Susan Davis (Davis is married name)I found in 1920 census - I want to A) confirm ssusan was a Kemp OR find out her maiden name; Then i want to find out her family info - I can't find any info about Kemps anyway that tie her or Elizabeth (see 1920 census). She died approx. 1940 or so in Florida State Hospital, Chattahoochee, FL. Wilbur Samuel Davis was her husband. Elizabeth is listed in 1920 census as Wilbur's sister in law so i thought maybe Susan and Elizabeth were sisters (cant find any info on Elizabeth Kemp either). I wrote FSH but they want proof I am a relative and I have nothing that ties me to anything. Nell (my granny) passed July 2005. Her name was Nellie Mae Davis, then married a man named GROOVER, and later Nell married a man named CLARK. I dont' think there was an obit because she passed in the FSH> Nell passed June 30 (i think) it was 2 days before her 90th birthday which would have been July 2 - this was in 2005 in Polk COunty, FL>
Thank you for your help!
Joshua Kemp, b. 26 Feb 1809, son of Shadrack Kemp of Baltimore Co., Maryland

I am assisting a friend in the research of her KEMP family. She descends from a Joshua KEMP, born in Maryland on 26 Feb 1809. This particular Joshua KEMP was married in 1829 and went west, traveling through Ohio, Indiana and Missouri, where his children were born. She descends from the oldest son, Stephen KEMP.

It appears that this Joshua KEMP, may be the son of Shadrack KEMP and Henrietta CAPLES of Baltimore County, MD. A number of online databases give exact birthdates for the children of Shadrack and Henrietta, suggesting that perhaps there is a family bible out there or some other document that has exact dates.

I have seen a transcription of the 1865 will of this Shadrack KEMP. He was born 4 Jan 1778 and was the son of John KEMP and Mary ARMACOST. Shadrack died in 1865. His will seems to mention all of his children, except for Joshua. Perhaps Joshua, moving westward, "received his inheritance early" or was disowned?

I also saw a post where someone stated that the 1823 will of John KEMP, father to Shadrack (b. 1778) and grandfather to this Joshua (b. 1809), mentioned some of the grandchildren of this John KEMP. These grandchildren were supposedly the children of Shadrack KEMP and his brother Joshua KEMP. Joshua KEMP, (born 1809) was obviously named for his uncle Joshua (b. 1779).

Has anyone seen family bible pages that mention this KEMP family? Does anyone know why Joshua KEMP, b. 1809, was not included in the will of his father Shadrack KEMP, (1778-1865)?

Thank you,
Laraine Clark
clarkRN@msn.com
I am looking for info on Lena Elizabeth Kemp. She was possibly born in March 1888 in Mississippi or Kemp City, Polk Co, AR. She may have been an orphan and lived in TX by 1900 (one possible census record). She married John Miller Claybrook in the early 1900's. The 1920 US Census lists her and her parents places of birth as Mississippi. Her mother or grandmother was reported to be a full blood Cherokee or Choctaw Indian, (but was possibly not on the rolls) and had married a white man. All of the family members I have spoken to believe that this was her given name and Lena was not a shortened name or nickname. If anyone knows who her parents were and where I can find them I would GREATLY appreciate it. I'm just banging my head against the wall 'til then! :)

VA Will Book 2 includes the appraisal and sale of the estate of Susannah KEMP/CEMP on July 25, 1767.
In the list of buyers, a John Kemp/Cemp is mentioned three times. Other buyers include Arthur Moseley, Miles Gipson, John Huckabay, James Smith, Thomas Bradley, James Bryant and John Depey.

During that time, a Sarah "Sally" KEMP who had married Thomas CARY was also living in Chesterfield Co. Thomas was born about 1725 in King and Queen Co. VA. Thomas and Sally had seven sons: Nathaniel, John Philipson, Edmund, William, Kemp, Robert Philipson and Peter Minor. Thomas died in 1784 and Sally in 1795, both in Chesterfield Co.

I would like to know if there is a connection between Susannah, John and Sally, and also the parents/ancestry of each of them.

Charles John Kemp UK

Hi, I am researching my Grandfather Charles John Kemp 1869-1937 (ish) and not getting very far. I would appreciate some advice. Charles lived in Bethnel Green, East London from, I believe, around 1912, at 7 Delta Street. He was a cabinet maker and then a haulage mover. Married to Harriett Elizabeth Newton, from Woolwich, had 8 children, George, Charles, Thora, Muriel, Harold, Stanley, Laurence and Sylvia. I can find no info on a wedding. Also there may be a Manchester connection and a first wife and children.

How can I progress with this research if this is all I know?

Alex Kemp

Cork, Ireland would like to have DNA testing done to determine if several families are related - one came to Baltimore, Maryland in 1819; one went to Jamaica, West Indies, New South Wales and Australia; one went to Ontario, Canada; one went to England; and we don't know where the others went!

How do we go about this? How much does it cost? Who determines the results, etc.?
