She had the deed and was photographing it for her boss who sells old and vintage items on-line. If she doesn't have in possession, she can give you the web site to see if it's sold yet. Hope they still have it; are these your ancestors?

I am trying to find more information regarding the Kemper's from the Baltimore, MD area. My grandfather, Joseph G. Kemper was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1917. His mother was Claire Dempsey and he does not know anything about his father. He did have a stepfather named David Leighton. He had two stepsiblings- Timmy and Joan. However, I have struggled for two years trying to find information on them- I have yet to find a single Federal Census or any piece of information proving their existance. If you know any information on these names, please let me know! Thank you so much!

If your local state, or nearby public library has the online database called HeritageQuest, you will find an over-century old family history about the Kemper family in America by Willis N. Kemper. It is hit or miss--and will NOT contain every Kemper who came to the United States, but it will give you a good beginning to understanding some of the Virginia origins of this colonial family. I believe later Kempers migrated to Pennsylvania.

If you do not have access to this online database, check the Family History Library on www.familysearch.org and see whether this hefty Kemper genealogy has been filmed. If so, for a small fee, you can rent this through contact with your local LDS Family History Center.

Also, check library catalogs around your home. There just might be a copy in some dusty genealogical corner.

E.W.Wallace

He died on 5-23-1896. Emma Kemper was born on 4-24-1906. I found her baptism record in Toledo Diocese section and death cert. all on familysearch.org. Thanks again!
~Jan
Thanks for the reply. I had the info but had not figured out that Herman and Anna had married siblings from the same family. Fun stuff! I confirmed from Ohio birth records that Bernard Ricker was born on 11 May 1896. I could not find a record of a death date. I had not run across that name before. Thanks!! Date of death of Theresia's siblings: Joseph-28Mar1965, Herman-24May1967, Elizabeth(my grandmother)-16Feb1982, Mary-9Apr1966.

I still have not found the birth date of Emma Kemper. Do you have it?

yes, that's my family. Herman was born on 8-2-1886, the oldest child of Henry & Louise who were married on 2-16-1886. Herman's youngest sister Emma entered the Sisters of Precious Blood Convent in Salem Heights, Dayton, Ohio in 1926. Her new name was Sister Mary Alphonsa, CPPS. She died 3-16-1928 from pneumonia. Herman also had a younger sister Mary Aemilia b. 7-29-1900 d. 9-9-1903. Did you figure out that Herman's sister Anna married Theresia's brother Louis? Ok, my turn. Do you have any info on Theresia's twin?? My family knows that she was a twin but had no info. I kinda figured out his name was Bernard and died 12 days after he was born. Also looking for date of death for Theresia's siblings Joseph, herman, Elizabeth, and Mary. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your response.
Is your Herman Kemper the son of Henry Kemper and Louisa Schulte? If so, I am looking for the date born and birthplace. I have Herman dieing on 16 Aug 1953 at home.
I am also looking for all the information on his sister Emma Kemper - place and date of birth and death, husband's name and place and date of birth and death, and names, place and date of birth of their children.
I would be grateful to receive any family history information that ties into the family of Henry Kemper.
I have found boatloads of information on the website ottovillehistory.blogspot.com. This website has the obituaries posted by year for Ottoville residents or former residents. The site is hosted by RandJ, but it does not show his contact information. I have been trying to find out who RandyJ is so I can thank him/her for the great service he/she has provided me. Do you have any idea who this person is?

Looking forward to your response...Doug
Genealogy of the Kemper family in the United States : descendants of John Kemper of Virginia, with a short historical sketch of his family and of the German Reformed colony at Germanna and Germantown, Va

See above. FHL in Salt Lake City has filmed the above, and you can order the film through a Family History Center which is near your home. Also, there seems to be a microfiche of some additional information. The original is over 100 years old and has lots of gaps. But, your Kemper associated ancestor may have communicated with author Willis N. Kemper.
If you have access through your public library or State Library to the database HeritageQuest, you will find a digitized family history of the Kemper Family of America [not its total title] by Willis N. Kemper, published over 100 years ago. This book may have been filmed by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Do a FHL catalog search, and if you find two entries (in the old catalog, sometimes labeled Previous), one entry will give the film or fiche number. You can order the film or fiche through your nearby Family History Center (LDS).

Also on HeritageQuest, look for books by B. C. Holtzclaw, one in particular--Ancesty and Descendantsof the Nassau-Siegen Immigrants to Virginia 1714-1750. Also look at Fauquier Co. and Culpeper Co. books of records.

Trying to confirm if one of the Kempers of Virginia had a mulatto offspring

I'm currently researching the Kemper family of Fauquier, Virginia. I'm trying to find out if Moses Kemper(1781-1864) son of Peter Kemper(1743-1824) was mullato or if he fathered a mullato child in Quintas Kemper(spelled in various ways on the censuses)(born 1826-1893) or if Quintas himself fathered a mullato child.
I'm looking because on the 1910 census for Leroy Kemper (Quintas's son) it says white, however someone made a note of mullato. (Extra info-Leroy had a twin named Darius or Derias)
It also seems as if there are African American features in the next generations- i.e. Leroy's granddaughter Arie Dell (Born 1905-1978)
I would really appreciate it, if anybody had any info they could share, thanks

My husband's great grandmother Gertrude Kemper married John Nicholas "Nick" Schafer in Stearns Co. Minn. They lived in Stearns county until late 1870's and moved to Johnson Co. TX for a few years and then to Payne Co. OK. where they lived rest of their lives. Gertrude's parents were Sebastian and Gertrude Kemper. In Gertrude's obituary she is said to have been born in Cologne, Germany. Nick was born in Trier, Germany. They met in Stearns Co. MN. My email is dellis53@hughes.net if you would like to compare notes.

Hi Kathy
I've contacted you under a different post/thread - you are obviously way ahead of me on the family research but I do know that there are still Kempers in Cincinnati. My mother's maiden name is Janet Puttman and when we were very young we used to go visit her great aunt Martha Kemper on the west side. Martha's daughter-in-law Mary Kemper lives in Cincinnati -- she is in her 80s and teaches yoga! A friend of mine goes to her yoga classes. I can try to put you in touch with her if you'd like.

This message says I posted this. That is in error. To the person who posed this question, the following may be of help. EPT1920

Check with your local public library--or with a nearby library as to whether that library subscribes to the online genealogical database called HeritageQuest. A Kemper Family genealogy--of the US--compiled by Willis N. Kemper about a century ago is online. A lot of other books out of copyright also appear on HeritageQuest. Not all Kempers came to Virginia in 1714 (First Germanna Colony), according to this history. Another Kemper came later to Pennsylvania. Start with what you know (censuses are best--to begin with). Deeds and court records and tax records, many on film at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, are available on loan--for a fee--through your nearby Family History Center (LDS Latter Day Saints). Ask your librarian to help you.

Thanks so much for your reply & the info on George & his family. I guess the name was spelt Camper in the census record? I know some of the Kemper's kept that spelling. I do not have a marr date for George & Nancy but was guessing it was abt 1829. If you have John J. b abt 1829, then it might be earlier. I am also wondering if all the children were b in TN. Any further info appreciated. At least I now know where to find them.
Ollie

Hello,
I'm searching for descendants of Elisabeth Wilhelmine Kaemper, born Dec. 19, 1846 in Lienen, Germany. She emigrated in 1869 to the US and arrived Sept. 27, 1869 in New York with the ship "Union" coming from Bremen. She apparently came alone. In the passenger list she calls herself Elise Kemper.
Thereafter we lost her trace. Does anybody know what she did thereafter?
I would appreciate to find more relatives of mine in the US.

If you need a Kemper family history, confer with your local public librarian. There is a century-old Kemper family history (not its title) which has been digitized and is on the online database HeritageQuest. This database is found mainly in public libraries which subscribe. Some genealogical societies also have it--but they are large genealogical societies. I do not recall the proper name of the history. Perhaps it has been microfilmed by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Go to the catalog on www.familysearch.org - look for a tab (somewhere on that website) labeled Catalog. Choose Surname or the author: Willis N. Kemper. It does NOT include all Kempers, and the history is said to be flawed. You can find Virginia land patents on the Library of Virginia website. Look for the topic land records [or patents]. Also google.com for Germanna colonies and subscribe to the rootweb. E.W.Wallace

I currently assist the Smid family in the sale of the DVD here in the USA. They (the scans) are available on a data DVD for a very reasonable price... they come on the DVDas jpeg files or as pdf files. They pdf files are much easier to use especially when zooming.
Hi Anne,
What a wonderful surprise to get you message!
The only other descendant of a sibling of my Great Grandfather Georg Ludwig Engelardt Kemper we have contact with is Helena Catherina.
I have a photo of Julia with family members which I'll send soon.My 2nd cousin(Geraldine)and I have been working very hard for the past year on GLE's family. We have original documents found among Geraldine's Father and Grandfathers things. They were attorneys and handled GLE's affairs. We have photos of the house CJ lived in in Colesberg. GLE bought that house, so we have property docs. Most of CJ's children were born in that house. I also have a large Family Tree of the Kemper Family!
I would love to see a photo of that painting of CJ. Hav'nt seen any picture of him. There are a few books that mention CJ and I'll send you copies soon.
Have you got any pictures of Julia?
I'm sure we have a lot of stuff to share with one another!!!
My Great Grandfather GLE Kemper had 4 living children from his 1st wife and 2 from his 2nd wife and I know the great grand children of all of them. We want to set up a web site for the Carl Julius Kemper's Family.
Please send me your e-mail address,
so we can have direct contact.Mine is jonbal@iafrica.com.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Carolynn Ball

Carl Julius Kemper (CJK) is also an ancestor of mine, possibly also my g.g.g.grandfather. My grandmother's maiden name was Julia Kemper. I have an original portrait of CJK at the foot of which is inscribed the following "Dr.C.J.Kemper.Berlin. May 21 1828 (sic). There is also further writing which I have not yet deciphered.
CJK was registered in 1840 as an apothecary in the Cape Colony. On 4 April 1845 a son was born in Colesberg.
It is also known that he went to Australia but returned to Colesberg.Kind regards Ann van Niekerk.
