Kempshalls in Moulton Near Spalding, Lincoln, England

I have found baptisms for the family I am interested in as I look at the parish records on the IGI for this location.
Michael Kempshall and Sarah Stennet had George, Michael and Alfred baptised here between 1827 and 1834; then they moved to Canada.

I am now trying to determine the parents of Michael, who according to the Canadian census was born about 1801. I see that there are two Kempshall baptisms in this parish in batch C030332 [roughly 1660-1812] ... George in 1800 and Robert in 1809; but no Michael, here or anywhere else in that time period. George and Robert were the sons of George and Jane; Michael named his first son George; any significance to that?

Where else might I look for Michael?

Thanks, Ruth in Canada

Hello,
Just saw your message while searching for Kempshalls. My Great Grandfather was John Kempshall son of John Thomas and Elizabeth. Elizabeth died with one son named Willie. John met and married Fanny Hempstalk. They had 4 children William, George, Albert and Edwin. I have gotten alot of history from Alan Frost. He was a big help to me. If I can help you at all please e-mail me and I will do what I can. I love to search for history. Hope to hear from you. Sandra

Dear Ann
I really don't have too much info at the moment (my mother has much more but she is on holidays). I was just browsing and came across this site. We are decendants from the Kempshalls who came to Australia in the 1800's as displaced lacemakers of Calais. I know for certain that they were from Nottingham. If you are interested in finding out more please feel free to email me and I will quiz my mother when she gets home next week (29/01/02).
Regards
Sharon

I come from the Nottinghamshire branch of Kempshalls and have heard that they originated in Lincolnshire, but have no evidence as yet. My father was Albert Ernest Kempshall, b.1907 or 1908. He had several brothers and sisters but any further information about the Nottinghamshire Kempshalls would be welcome.

Hi Ellen I am sorry for not replying sooner but our computer was whisked away for upgrading about a week ago and we have only just got it back. I am sorry also that I know little of the Wapshotts from Brentford. My own grt. grandad came from Ripley, Sy and I am struggling to obtain information for the time from about 1900. I live in W. Yorks.now but I was born in Surrey. It is only since my mother died that I have taken an interest in the family , which I now know is traceable right back to poss. to King Arthur. Have you read the book in the Woking Family History Centre? Best wishes Joyce

Kempshall

My great grandfather was Sidney Kempshall, born in 1877, married Florence Wapshott in the UK in 1906/7. His family were from Lewes in Sussex. He and Florence emigrated to America. In 1909 he was a bartender in Syracuse, New York. My grandmother, Mildred Kempshall was born 26/12/1909; her mother died in childbirth. Sidney took Mildred back to England where she was raised by her aunt, Louisa (Florence's sister) and her huband Jim Burnam. Sidney retuned to America and later remarried, is believed to have had one or two sons. The family story goes that around 1912 he returned to England to fetch his daughter, this was after he remarried. However Louisa did not want the child to return to America with him, so took her and hid somewhere in North Wales, consequently we know no more of Sidney and his second family, other than that in 1933, when Mildred married Thomas Muir, he was believed to have already died. Mildred is still alive and we'd love to be able to trace any family for her.

My g-g-g-g-grandmother was Ann KEMPSHALL, she married Joseph KIRMAN in 1799 at Stainfield, Lincolnshire. They were both from the parish of Apley, Lincolnshire and that is where they lived and raised their children. The son I am descended from was John Kempshall KIRMAN. She died 17 April 1846 aged 78 years and is buried in Apley. I have not yet found her baptism or her parents.
