Hi my name is Michele Borkowski. My grandfather was Leonard Borkowski. I am trying to do research on our family and was wondering if you might have anything that could be helpful to me. I do not have a paid ancestry account I use MyHeritage.com. My email address is MicheleB2184@yahoo.com and I would really love to hear from you.

I was reviewing old postings on Ancestry and I came across your 2003 message about the Kendra name. My daughter's first name is Kendra and is named for my wife's family surname. There are a number of Kendra families who originated in Yorkshire, England. There is a Kendra Inn or Hotel in Cornwall so the last name is still used in the UK. My wife's immigrant ancestor, John Kendra came to the US from Bartejov, Slovakia and we have trace his lineage to about 1799 but before that, there is no record. The Kendra name is English but there are families with that nme or derivations of it in Germany, Poland, Czeckoslovakia, Hungary and the US. In the US they are in mostly eastern States and appear to have come from Eastern Europe. My family is from the British Isles - Scotland and England in the 17th and early 18th century and more recently from Ireland in then 19th century. So your name is a very pretty one and very old. It probably came from a maiden name of one of your ancesters.

Hi! Our Kedra family name became Kendra here is the USA becuase of the phonetic interpretation; our Kedras were from towns as yet unidentified in name but around Sambor (Sambir) Galicia [now is western Ukraine]. This is probably not a direct line for me but, I think, a first cousin of a great grandparent, but I am collecting history here as this family was always very close with my great grandparents. Most of the family lived in Delaware County, PA.

Hi,
I have Kedra/Kendra in my family, I have been interviewing them for some time now in tracing our common roots. They also told me that their name was spelled KEDRA in Poland, with the 'e' being the Polish letter that looks like an "e" with a little curly-q tail off of the bottom of it, and so when the word Kedra was spoken it sounds, in the English language, like Kendra. According to First Year Polish by Oscar E. Swan, This is called a nasal vowel. He states: "Before other sounds (this) e decomposes into e plus nasal consonant (n, m, ....)."
Hope this helps!

What do you know of your Kendra/Kedra family in PA? I'd be glad to exchange information!
Cynthia

Well hello there Mary

Having just read your email I thought I had better respond. I live in Kent in the UK. Both my parents are from Ireland I was born in the 1970s and given the name "Kendra", since then I have never come across any other name sake, only on the odd American film etc, that is until the birth of the internet, and until reading your email, I never knew that "Kendra" was and is still used as a surname. It was great to find this out. By the way, do you know where your surname originated from? Where your relatives either Irish or Scottish as I think Kendra is the female equivalent of the male Scottish name "Kendrick"....

Best wishes
Kendra Perrott

My in-laws were Joseph and Anna Kendra. They lived in N. Charleroi, Pa. Both passed away since 1998. Mr. Kendra had several sisters: Mary, Margaret, Sarah, Anna and Sister Emily (a Catholic Nun). Two of the sisters are still living. Margaret was a nurse (WAC) during WWII. When she returned from the war, she was a nurse in the operating room of the local hospital. When Ken was born, she convinced my in-laws to Americanize Ken's last name to Kinder (although those who knew the family called him Kendra). Strange but true. We are now researching our family trees. Believe me, if I ever find anything, I will let you know.

I'm a Kendra from Wilkes Barre. I was born in Kingston actually (across the river). My grandmother was from Ashley (up the hill (North) from WB. Her husband, Andrew, (my namsake) was one of many brothers (they're the source of most of the Kendra's from WB, I suppose). There were brothers Steven, Michael and four others I'm told. I'm curious and interested in any history anyone has. I'm living near Boston now.

Cheers,
Drew

Unfortunately, I cannot help you with any of the names you listed. My Mom was adopted at a very young age. She has a picture of and some old letters from her birth father, Stanley Kendra (all from 50+ years ago), but has never met any other Kendra.

The Stanley Kendra I am looking for was married to or dated Lillian Fallert, my mom's natural mother. My mom was born in 1941 (I may have erroneously stated 1942 before) in the Pittsburg, PA area. My Mom is a bit unsure about trying to find her birth father, but I am very interested in my medical or health "roots."

If one of your Stanley Kendra's once knew a Lillian Fallert, please let me know.

There are many Kendra's originally from the wilkes- Barre area. I married one. Several are on the internet. There is another Kendra. We have most of the family genealogical data back to 1869. There is even a Kevin Kendra from WB. The Kevin from Boston ought to e-mail him.
