It was a John Kendrick (living) in Wedsbury that had done the dna. He was a part of the one name study that Ted Kendrick is involved with. And it was Ted that found this match for us, and visited with John.
Your grandmother could not have been my direct link, as she would not have passed down the name or the y dna. It is male lineage that the y dna follows. BUT, you said she visited FAMILY in Albany? Could this have been Kendricks in Albany she was visiting??? This could be a link. Is there any way you can find out what family she was visiting? I am also interested in following up on the Maryland Kendrick family.
You are the first one to give me any leads on family that has come to America
from England!! I hope you will help me sludge thru the paper trail and see
where this takes us. First stop, let's see if your grandma visited Kendricks in Albany, and if we can find the year, maybe she will be in a census??
Thanks thanks so much !!
Hi Kay, I am quite fascinated to have heard from you & am now puzzling over just where our connection might lie.
Perhaps we could share trees with each other to see each others ancestry in the hope of spotting something that might help?
I must ask you ~ how have you been able to determine that you are descended from the Wednesbury Kendrick's by DNA? Who was it who got tested from the Wednesbury Kendrick's line for you to have your DNA compared to? This has really grabbed my attention & I would love to know more please.
My maternal grandmother was a lady named Elizabeth Kendrick Bradford, she was the daughter of Harriet Kendrick who in turn was the daughter of my 2 x great grandparents John Kendrick & Harriet Davis. John Kendrick was born in Wednesbury in 1805, the son of William & Margaret Kendrick.
My grandmother Elizabeth Kendrick Bradford was born in 1887 in Liverpool & she is one of the line who I know did visit America. As a single lady she went to America in 1912 heading to visit family in Albany. She remained living there for three years & two months before returning to England when she then married my grandfather. I have never had any suspicions that she may have had a baby over there but I suppose that it could have been one possible explanation.
I did have contact some time ago with someone who lives in Maryland, USA who is related to the Davis family. There was a link with a Davis family member marrying a Kendrick & some of the family did go out to America. Could the link lie through this way do you think?
His contact details was :- whitehousegiles@comcast.net
I shall get my brain ticking over to see if I can think of any other possible links that could be looked into.
There is a man by the name of Edward Kendrick in England who is doing a one name study of Kendrick's who is very knowledgable about the Kendrick family ~ have you ever been in touch with him at all?
Hoping to hear from you again soon,
Jan.

My grandmother (Dad's mom) was a Kendrick. Her father, James Kendrick, was orphaned when young, raised by "someone" and our history was lost. It was told to us that his parents were lost at sea on the great lakes in the early to mid 1800's. (1840-1850) James died in 1905 in Chewelah, Washington. A large family descends down from him. We only know about our connection with the Wedsbury Kendricks because of a perfect match with their dna to our dna. So, I am looking for the answers to all those "questions" in life. How the heck did he get here? Stay tuned. We are determined to find out. Kay

We were very surprised that we did NOT match any of the dan's here in the U.S., and only that of the Wedsbury Kendrick clan!!! And absolutely no knowledge on either side of the pond, how we got here or whom got here!!! Looking for any leads. May have been in Canada or Pa upon arrival. Kay

Phineas Kendrick b. 1817 Wedsbury Stafforshire, England. This family was in the
1850 census in Maiden, Middlesex, Massachusetts, US! With 3 of their 4 children. James born 1845, Macy (or mary or mercy) b. 1846 and John b. 1848.
But then it appears they are back in England by the 1861 census. Can someone please look it up, and see if the son James is back in England with them, or if he stays in the U.S.? All children were born in England. It appears that they were here for a brief time, and then back to England. Thanks so much
Kay NQH@EARTHLINK.NET

John b 1763 Wedsbury, Staffordshire, Eng. any info out ???

Hi. After trying to figure out who my James Kendrick b. 1840-45 in Canada, was born to, we gave up, and did the wonderful world of Y-dna. Awesomely, it gave us one match. With John Kendrick of Wedsbury Staffordshire Eng b. 1763. Does anyone out there have any info on this family and are there more of "us" in the United States? My James b bout 1845 in Canada, was orphaned at an early age when his parents were lost at sea on the great lakes. I wonder if James was born during a voyage up the St Lawrence River? They mentioned he was born in Quebec. No proof. But, he married in Nashua, Iowa to Amanda Shannon 1887. Moved west having many children, and died 1905 in Valley, Wa. (north of Spokane). It was said that he had a previous wife and possibly 3 kids that we know NOTHING of. Maybe the wife was in Canada and maybe California. Both has been mentioned. Love to find ANYONE connected to this family of John 1763. Any other known emigrants of this family???
Kay Neubauer NQH@EARTHLINK.NET

We had researched our Kendrick familly for 20 and had come to a road block in the U.S. Finally did the y-dna, and it matched the same John of Wedsbury b. 1763. So. Know I just have to find out how we got here!!! At least I know what family it is in the end. Any info would be
delightful.
Hello Katherine. I have been searching my Kendrick family roots for two decades but been unable to find any other Kendrick family connected to mine. But last year, one of our family members did a y dna test, and although we found no one
in the U.S. of the same dna, there was a man in England that has done the test, that we were related to. But he has no knowledge of any of his family that ever came to the U.S. You mentioned Wales/England in your book. Has any male member of your Kendrick family done the y dna test? And is Joseph Kendrick the man that is related to the Kendrick (John I think) that was at one time governor of Wyoming? I would like to visit with you when you have time. The man that ends up in Wyoming and Montana, is so far, the closest dna I have seen to my James Kendrick. Please email me when you have a minute.
Thanks Kay Neubauer NQH@EARTHLINK.NET

Hi. Have any of this line of Kendricks done the dna test? The Kendricks of Alabama have used many of the same first names for their children as my James Kendrick, that was supposedly born in Canada. And there was a James Kendrick from Alabama that moved on to Calif, but appears to have been born at least 10 years before my James Kendrick. My James was born about 1845 we think , and the James that moved on to Calif was born in 1838 I believe. They even resemble each other in photos we have. Thanks Kay

I believe if you ask this question again in May, you may find someone who can help. The 1940 US census will be available in about 30 days, but the index will come later. Jay Kendrick should be in the 1940 US census, and that record should give you some info. Or, if you don't want to wait for the index and will have access to the census yourself, you can search page by page the way we used to do it in the old days.

My wife was told by her mother [Shirley Leaman-Patrick] before she died that her real father was Jay Kendrick and not Jack Patrick as she was told. Jay went to Albany High or Berkeley High School in Alameda county, cal.graduating sometime in 1950-52,and hung around the students from St. Mary's and St. Joseph's.
My wife, [Kathleen born May 1953] has only a high school wallet picture of Jay and there is no doubt that he is her father to look at them both. ...My wife's interest, after being a member of "ancestry" for two years, is to add information of her father's hertiage to the rich hertiage she found on her great-great mother's side. Can anyone help? Jay would have been born between 1931-33. Thank you G. Schneider

I was never able to find an 1850 Census record; only 1860 and 1870. Ansel died in 1878.

Is there anything specifically you would like to know about Ansel. I am just today trying to decipher a letter written to him on Dec 26, 1860.

Maybe you could pass word to them, that it could be really beneficial to do the dna?? Most families in the u s have done it, and it would help put the pieces of the puzzle together. For me, it just arose more questions. But, what if this family you were helping was my elusive link?? Sure seems odd to me, that I cannot find ONE single person in the u s with this dna. There is surely to be another family with this dna. Ah, what an easter egg hunt!!!!!! My only clues are that my James Kendrick was born in Canada, possibly Quebec, around 1840-ish. And his parents born in Pa. Mother possibly Indian. And James ends up marrying in Nasua, Iowa in 1876. They end up in Spokane Washington by 1900. Thanks Kay

Love to visit with you about your family birth dates. When was William H born?
I am also in search of a Kendrick. MIne was James H Kendrick, born about
1838 or 1845. He supposedly was raised by an aunt and uncle , as his parents were lost at sea on one of the great lakes on a ship. We have done dna, so this could help find relation. So far, no relation in U. S. Did find one match in England, but do not know any more. I have studied a lot of Kendrick families
looking for this man. The woman my James married, her family lived in Illinois, before moving on to Iowa and then South DAkota. Thanks Kay
"If King Hendrick was the father of Zimmerman's second (or common law) wife, are you saying their offspring was John Henry Hendrick, later known as John H Kendrick who married Dorcas?"

Yes, but I suspect his common law wife came first and then he married Ms. Schutz. King Hendrick was Hendrick Tejonihokarawa (the first King Hendrick Sachem of the Mohawks)

Matthew's name is only by tradition. It may be a middle name. According to another source, his name was Charles Mingo and he came to Nova Scotia via Boston where he had served in the English army. He had three sons. Their names were John Mingo, George Mingo and David Mingo. Tradition also says that they came from Philadelphia to Nova Scotia. A George Mingo is listed as a "person of colour" who was a Loyalist and came to Nova Scotia in 1784. To further confuse matters, there were Montbeliardais "Foreign Protestant" or "Swiss" Menegeaux (Mingo)families that also settled in Nova Scotia.

Children of Matthew Mingo and ? are:
+ 5 i. John3 Mingo, born January 25, 1788 in Philadelphia, PA, USA; died May 26, 1860 in River John ,Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Canada.
+ 6 ii. George Mingo, born August 16, 1782 in Philadelphia, PA; died March 17, 1855 in Halifax, NS.
+ 7 iii. David Mingo, born 1793 in Lunenburg, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia; died March 17, 1855 in Louisville, Pictou, Nova Scotia.
+ 8 iv. Nancy Mingo, born 1794.
9 v. Elizabeth Mingo, born 1802.
10 vi. Susannah Mingo, born Abt. 1801.
11 vii. Jane Anne Mingo, born 1796.

Do you know if Dorcas' father was Dutch, Palatine, or Swedish? I suspect Swedish as Swedish-Lenape intermarriage was more common.
Thank you very much for your interesting letter. I have also found much of what you write about. I have considered the Zimmerman connection and the connection with King Hendrick (but couldn't find enough proof.)Zimmerman & King Hendrick obviously had a connection to one another, but I assumed it was just a business relationship. What you suggest however could certainly be true.

If King Hendrick was the father of Zimmerman's second (or common law) wife, are you saying their offspring was John Henry Hendrick, later known as John H Kendrick who married Dorcas?

The only part of your letter that is new to me is the birth of Matthew. What year was he born? As far as I know John & Dorcas had four sons John, Duke William, Joseph, Hiram and a daughter Mary.(Twin to Joseph.) Do you have a birth record for Matthew?

I am a direct descendent of John & Dorcas. Their second son Duke William was my five times great-grandfather. My own father was also a John Kendrick.

Cheers!
Nancy Kendrick

I suspect that Jacob Zimmerman, a German Palatine settler in early 18th Century New York, may have had a relationship with the daughter of the Mohawk Sachem, "King Henry." though he may have formally married Anna Margretha Schutz, and had the rest of his children by her.

A Johann Hendrick Mingo, b. in Mohawk Valley, NY around 1728 is listed in the 1792 census of St. Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia.

Notes associated with this census say the following: "John MINGO - Mingo is the english for Algonquin Mingwe which means "Iroquois". John MINGO aka John [Henry] HENDRICK / KENDRICK Mohawk (Kanienkehaka) was born ca 1728 in the Mohawk Valley (Kanienke), he died ca 1792-3 possibly at St Margarets Bay. He's listed as a "Foreign Protestant" probably because his father was a Dutch trader so he spoke that language, and he was perhaps also baptised by the Dutch (he was one of the Mohawks who converted to Christianity)."

This John Mingo had lived in New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania. He married a woman with the given name Dorcas who was likely the daughter of a father of Dutch and/or Swedish heritage and a mother of Munsee Lenape (Delaware) Indian heritage. It is known that this couple left descendants by the surname Kendrick. I suspect John Hendrick aka John Mingo and wife Dorcas were the parents of "Matthew" Mingo from Philadelphia, the progenitor of the Tatamagouche, Denmark and River John branches of the family.

Suspect this Matthew married a woman of Montbeilardais, Mi'qmaq or maybe Acadian/Mi'qmaq/Free Black ancestry.

I descend from daughter Nancy, wife of George Mattatall (maternal 4th great-grandparents).
