I can tell you that my father fits into the line of David Ketchum born 1795. He was my dads gg grandfather. Many people thought my father looked part native american. I strongly believe that it is true but just like you I have not been able to make a solid connection during my research.

Ketchum's from Northern France

It has been told that our Ketchum fam. can be traced back to the Kechun's from Northern France. The father, Andre and his sons, Carlos, William, Jean and Pierre came to Port Royal, Nova Scotia in the early 1700s. After Andre's death, the sons came to the continent: Carlos to St. John,NB, Pierre to New Amsterdam, NY, Jean accompanied friendly Indians westward and William settled near Hartford, CN. I have never found anything to verify this nor have several other researchers. I would like to put this to rest. Does this sound familiar to anyone??

To post a new message, click on the link that says "Begin new thread"
To find a board, go to the bottom of this page, and put in the surname or county you want. You will usually get several choices, and you click on the appropriate one.
I usually go through Rootsweb, instead of Ancestry. It is the same boards, it just may be easier. Go to
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/
Click on the "Message Boards" tab. Then fill in the box where it says find a board.
Here is the link for the Erie County board
http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.new...
You have to sign in when you post, but you can use the same log in name and password as your Ancestry account
Hope this helps!

My dad did a lot of research on the Jesse Ketchums prior to his death. His grandfather was Jesse Ketchum IV. Unfortunately, we can't locate Dad's computerized records.

I have paper copies of his research back as far as Edward Ketchum, who was born in Ipswitch, Kent, England, Married in 1625, had other marriages, and Died June 17, 1655.

I would like to share this information with someone who has this Ketchum family on computer. I'd like to have a copy of the computer information, and in return, will go through and update anything from Dad's records that is missing on the computer version.

This group of Jesse Ketchums includes Jesse Ketchum II, who was born in 1782, died in 1867, and lived in the Toronto, Ontario, and Buffalo, NY, areas. He had a tannery and lot of property. In his will, he left a trust to establish an award for the best student in each Buffalo, NY, grade school. That award is still being awarded today.

Looking for anyone connected with William ketchum who lived up in Margaretville/Cooperstown, NY. William Sr. married a Mead and we are hoping to connect with their descendants. Uncle, Jack Meade, is hoping to find descendants of Kenneth Ketchum (sons Kenneth/Sonny and Billy). The family lived up in Margaretville, NY at some point but may have moved out of the area since then. There might be a connection to my Schaffer family here. If you are connected please contact me at katybud3@aol.com
Thanks

I have a George A. in my lineage as well who was also born on Long Island, but unfortunately the dates don't coincide. My George A was born in 1820, so he probably would have been too old to go to war but who knows.

I am researching my 3rd-great-grandparents, George A. Ketchum (or Ketcham, b. about 1820 Long Island City, NY d. 15 April 1892 Long Island City, NY) and Prudence M. Topping (b. about 1835 d. 13 February 1920 Brooklyn, NY). George's father was a Nathaniel Ketchum (also born in Long Island City) according to his death certificate (his mother's name was not listed). Prudence's parents were Albert Topping and Mary Brown, according to her death certificate.
I've noticed that both Ketchams and Toppings in books about Long Island families in Suffolk County (Ketchams mostly in the Huntington area and Toppings in Southampton).
Is there a way to find out if the same families from Suffolk County ever migrated to Long Island City or Astoria in Queens in the early to mid 19th Century? I have yet to find any record of it in books at my local library.

Cathy,
There is some interesting information about the McNutt clan on the web address below. You can probably cut and paste it into Google. If not, then open Google, on the type of search selection bar (Web, Images, Map, etc.) choose the "more" on the right side, and then choose "books" from the drop down list. In the search box type - Daughters of Republic of Texas Patriot Ancestor Album, Volume 1. This will bring up the READABLE book. See pages 163-4-5 and 195. FYI some of the random pages will not appear (by design) but these do.

Berry Spradley
Spring, TX

CUT AND PASTE
http://books.google.com/books?id=9xhKe6Zc__EC&pg=PA230&a...

Jacob Ketchum born about 1795 was on 1815 tax list for Bledsoe County, TN. Jacob was found to be in Blount Co., Alabama in 1830 on page 12 of the census records, recorded as Jacob Cetchum, age 30-40, along with a female age 30-40. Shortly thereafter he was in Texas and fought in the Texas war of Independence from Mexico between 1836 and 1837. After the war he received a land grant for his services from the Republic of Texas of 1,280 acres on Bois d'Arc Creek in Fannin District, TX for his service. He died sometime between March 1836 and about 1840. He was not on the tax rolls of Fannin County for 1840. However, it's possible that he had not yet filed for and received the patent to his land at that time. His siblings filed a probate court case over the land, but Mary, his widow, won and got the 1280 acres.

Jacob was son of Edward Ketchum, born about 1765 in Virginia/Tennessee, and Mary Reasor Ketchum, daughter of Peter Reasor. Their children were: Martha (Raines), Jacob, Joseph, Catherine (Niblett), Peter Reasor, Christopher, Christiana (Ferrell), Elizabeth (McAnally), Luther Henderson.

Jacob's widow Mary later married George W. McNutt on 5 Apr 1842 in Fannin County, Texas and some time later it was said that they moved to Lawrence Co., Arkansas. They sold the 1280 acres of land in Fannin County to Curtis Moore for $200 on 28 April 1855.

Texas Census, 1820-90
Name: George W. McNutt
State: TX
County: Fannin County
Township: No Township Listed
Year: 1842
Database: TX Tax List Index, 1840-1849

Texas Marriage Collection, 1814-1909 and 1966-2002
Name: George W. McNutt
Marriage Date: 5 Apr 1842
Spouse: Mary Ketchum
Marriage County: Fannin
Marriage State: Texas
Source: Texas Marriages, 1814-1909

According to the following information, taken from Daughters of Republic of Texas Patriot Ancestor Album, Volume 1- By Turner Publishing Company, Thomas Kinsey, Sr. was married to George W. McNutt's sister Sarah and was therefore a brother-in-law of George W. McNutt. They were all in Fannin County at one time or another.

THOMAS KINSEY SR. was born Jan. 22, 1781 in Culpeper County, VA; died Aug 27, 1868, Coryell County, TX; buried in the Sugarloaf section of the Killeen City Cemetery, Bell County, TX. He married Sarah Jane (Sallie) McNutt Oct. 31, 1811 in Madison, Mississippi Territory, AL.
He was a farmer, printer, owner of the Gatesville Star, and a blacksmith.
In 1840 Thomas moved his family to Fannin County but had to move back to Arkansas because of Indian trouble. In 1844 he and the family moved to Wood County, TX. He received Republic of Texas land grant No. 382, November 1839. On Dec. 19,1839, he bought 640 acres of land in Red River County from George W. McNutt, his brother-in-law.
Thomas and Sallie were the parents of George, born 1812; Peter, born 1814; Roland, born 1817; Lunsford, born 1817; Martha Ann, born 1818; William Madison, born 1819; Thomas Jr., born ca. 1823/25; Margaret C, born ca. 1828; Arminda Mary, born ca. 1830/31; Francis Marion, born ca. 1831; Elisha K. born 1833; Madison Gaines, born 1836; Henry M. born ca 1822/39; and Lucinda, born 1842.
Thomas was a Primitive Baptist.
While out hunting, sons Roland, Lunsford and Thomas Jr. accidentally set the prairie on fire. Roland and Lunsford were burned to death and Thomas survived. According to family tradition his deformed arm and hand were a result of the fire. -- JUNE SHERMAN

There are a number of personal and private family trees on Ancestry.com stating that the widow of Jacob Ketchum was Mary Elizabeth Utter and that she married George Anderson McNutt on 29 Jun 1843 in Edgar County, Illinois. The marriage of these two in Illinois is fact. However, it is not true that she is the Ketchum widow . George Alexander McNutt and Mary that married in Illinois in 1843 are not the same George W. McNutt and Mary, widow of Jacob, that married in Fannin County, Texas in 1842. (unless he married Mary Ketchum the widow, changed his middle name, moved to Illinois and married Mary Utter the next year, and stayed there the rest of his life?).

I am searching for information about the McNutt family that would be connected to the widow Mary Ketchum. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am ultimately trying to find Mary's family. I think she and Jacob probably married in Virginia or Tennessee.
– Berry Spradley
