Do You Have Info for the on-going Update to the "KIDDER BOOK?"

Hello. I'd just like to remind researchers that George in FL is still working on his project -- to update the 1941 "KIDDER book."

He is especially interested in KIDDER's who lived in the very late 1800's and very early 1900's.

Please see his web site for further information about this:

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/1255/1255.htm

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

P.S. I am still interested in hearing from descendants of Joseph "Calvin" KIDDER (1799-1891) from the Maine / New Brunswick border. He was mostly known as Calvin KIDDER. His wife was Mary WILKINS, and they had 7 children, with 6 children surviving till at least teen-years. They had 3 sons who married and had children. One son married but died soon after, and so did his wife. One daughter married but had no children; one daughter died at Age 16.

NH KIDDER's in Revolutionary War (New Ipswich)
Hello. I'd like to know if anyone is researching the KIDDER men in New Ipswich, NH, born from 1750 to 1770's who served in the Revolutionary War.

Three KIDDER brothers helped to found New Ipswich, NH, and they had 30 children between them. Of them, 11 were sons. But, I think only 3 of them fought in the War. I am interested in the three sons of Joseph and Rebecca KIDDER. They were Wilder KIDDER, Joseph KIDDER, and Calvin KIDDER. I believe only Wilder and Joseph served in the War. (Wilder was a famous Fifer in War.)

Calvin was my ancestor, and it appears he did not serve, and around 1783 migrated to Canada (NS/NB) (Not Loyalist).

The other KIDDER who fought in this War was Thomas KIDDER one of the sons of Aaron KIDDER. Does anyone know if he is listed in the DAR's Patriot Index? ... I found out this morning that neither Wilder nor Joseph KIDDER are in the Index.

This is probably because we haven't traced their post-War lives yet. Some people believe they moved to NY State, and this morning I saw an indication they might have moved to northern VT. (But, in 1780's that part of northern VT was still part of NY State.)

...
I would also like to know if anyone is researching the daughters of Joseph and Rebecca KIDDER of New Ipswich and Temple, NH (neighboring towns). They were: Rebecca, Sibyl, (twins) Susannah and Lydia, Molly, and Rhoda.

Joseph KIDDER's family in 1700's New Ipswich and Temple, NH

I just checked the archives and I haven't posted a query about my ancestors
in 1700's Temple, NH, in about a year. And, I haven't really thought
about them seriously since then. But, I just went to the web site devoted
to the history of Temple, NH, and found out that there is information there
that I hadn't noticed before.

http://home.att.net/~mensch-family/Temple-NH.htm#QUERIES

For this morning, I'd like to mention the family of Joseph KIDDER and offer
what we knew so far. And, I'd like to know if anyone else is researching any of his children.

Joseph and Rebecca (CHAMBERLAIN) KIDDER
(from Chelmsford, MA), lived in Westford, MA, and then, with his brothers,
moved to New Ipswich, NH. When Temple, NH, was founded, they moved there.

CH:

Wilder KIDDER, b1753, m. ___ (I have his wife's name, a lady from NJ, but I
don't have the information handy.) (I am looking to find out where they
were living when they died. They lived in different states after his
retirement. He fought in several places in the Rev. War, including NY
and Valley Forge, and was a "famous Fifer.)

Rebecca KIDDER, b1754 (don't have her marriage information)

Sibyl KIDDER, b1756, m. 1775 to Aaron CHAMBERLAIN of New Ipswich

Susanna KIDDER (twin), b1759 (don't have her marriage information)

Lydia KIDDER (twin), b1759, m. 1790 to Abel CONANT of Hollis, NH

Molly or Polly KIDDER, b1761, m. 1791 to Stephen AUSTIN, b1767? to Timothy
AUSTIN (of Temple?)

Joseph KIDDER, Jr., b1763, m. 1795 to Mrs. Hulda STILES of Temple

Calvin KIDDER, b1765, migrated to New Brunswick ~1784, and m. 1798? to Mary
GREENLAW
(My ancestor)

Rhoda KIDDER, b1767, m. 1794 to Elisha JOHNSON

I have just found out some of the above information, so I will have to look
for more information on them next week.

FYI: For newcomers to List, I have been researching my KIDDER line
(and KIDDER's in Maine) for over 12 years (6+ yrs. on-line). And, I have
the "KIDDER book." And, there is a KIDDER web site, if anyone is
interested.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

This bible has records in the family pages listing numerous marriages, births and deaths. Most recent entry appears to be 1917. Geographical areas listed seem to be all in Mass. Surnames listed are Congle(SP?),Davis, Foster,Frothingham,Hacket,Harding,Higgins,Kidder,Martin,Maynard, and Rollins.
If anyone is interested in reclaiming this bible, please contact me by email.

Kidder / Fowler / Woolsey Connection - Minnesota

Hello - I am looking for information on David Woolsey Fowler who was born in Blockman, New Brunswick, Canada, 25 Apr 1826. He moved to Maine Prairie, Minnesota abt. 1856. In 1862 he married Frances Elizabeth Bradbury Varney, a young widow with a daughter, Georgi. In 1896 Frances died and David and his adult daughter, Nettie, moved to East Palestine, Ohio. He died there abt 1812. I believe he may have had connections with the Kidder and Woolsey families. I'd be happy to share information. Thanks, Sue sug53@earthlink.net

New Ipswich, NH, and Temple, NH, Families

Hello. I haven't mentioned my KIDDER ancestors in New Ipswich and Temple, NH, for a while, so I thought I'd ask whether anyone else is currently researching them !

One comment I can make is that I am surprised how little information is known (or can be found) about the 9 children of Joseph and Rebecca (CHAMBERLAIN) KIDDER. They moved their family to Temple, NH, around the time it was founded, and, evidently, Temple did not keep very good records -- OR they were lost !

They had 3 sons, Wilder, Joseph, and Calvin. Wilder served long and hard in many battles of the Revolutionary War. After he fought at Valley Forge, he remained in NJ and married there. But, he returned to NY (he had fought at Saratoga), and then lived in NH. While in his last years, he and his wife might have gone back to NY. (I'm trying to find out where he died.)

Joseph KIDDER fought in the Rev. War, also, but I'm having trouble finding out about him ! He fought in some of the MA battles and at Saratoga, but we don't know what happened to him. He "might" have returned to Temple, NH, and led a quiet life, possibly never marrying.

Calvin KIDDER was only about 10 or 11 when the War started, but a few years later he would have been old enough to help out the War effort in some capacity. But, there are seemingly no records telling us about it. In 1783 he "left the area." It is most probable that he joined the families from New Boston, NH, when they migrated to New Brunswick, Canada ! After 1790, he was known as being in St. Stephen, NB. (At that time, it was Schoodic, NB.) Calvin was killed in a boating accident in 1799.

I don't have my notes handy, but I think, of Joseph and Rebecca's 6 daughters, marriage information is only known of one of them !

I have written to the Town Clerks and they have not responded. So, I might have to go visit the Historical Societies in New Ipswich and Temple this summer !

Hello. I just received an e-mail from a lady who says she is descended from the KIDDER families in Mexico, ME.

I was wondering if other people are descended from them, and are interested in connecting up with each other !

The family is mentioned on the WorldConnect Project, but the researcher, Nancy, does not go back to the MA roots !

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&...

I believe Earl KIDDER said the family went back to Uxbridge, MA (or was it Upton, MA?) I haven't corresponded with him in several years, and don't have my notes handy.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

I cannot locate any Kidder families currently living in very northern Maine who wish to correspond with me. My great-grandfather was born in Princeton, ME, in 1870, and many of his relatives still live in that same area. But, I am interested in ALL the Kidder men who moved to Maine during to Maine from 1765 to 1865. Is there anyone out there who would be willing to correspond with me? About the Kidders in Maine?

John Paul, Gertrude Grace & Clytia Mary Kidder,ch. of Benjamin/Cynthia(Blue)Kidder, of Warren Co.& Knox Co.,IL

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Paul, Gertie and Clyta Kidder, children of Ben”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about 1885, in Bushnell (McDonough Co.) IL, and Paul looks about 12, Gertie about 7 and baby Clytia about 1.

I found the family in the 1900 census for Galesburg (Knox Co.) IL. DOB for Gertrude G. was Feb 1878. “Clylia M.” Kidder was born Apr 1884. Paul was not with the family in 1900, but Ancestry’s One World Tree shows John Paul, born 1873 Warren Co., IL, son of Benjamin Hastings Kidder (1843) and Cynthia Ann Blue (1848). John Paul married Rosa Waggoner in Galesburg. Mary Clytia Kidder married William A. Forsee.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to this Kidder family.

I'm looking for info about roscoe b. kidder. His dad died when he was 3 or 4 years old. He went to live with a family by the name of lovejoy. He was born in 1844. He was born in westford mass. I can't find a thing about his dad or mom or if he had any siblings. Roscoe was in the civil war and was in the 9th New Hampshire in the Union. I've got his army papers, but nothing says anything about his family. I've got stuff on his wife and kids. Any help would sure be nice. Thanks

I am researching my ODELL line in the area of Conneaut Township, Erie Co,Pa./ Conneaut, Ohio area. My ancestor was Riley Nathaniel ODELL, his wife was Sarah Ann KIDDER. She may have been the daughter of Francis KIDDER. Riley and Sarah are listed in the 1850 and 1860 census in Conneaut Township, Erie Co., PA. Riley was born circa 1819 in Pennsylvania. Sarah was born circa 1827 also in PA. The children are: Francis Willard ODELL born 1848 in PA. Elizabeth M. ODELL born 1851 in PA. And Jane M. Odell born 1854 in PA. There may have been other
children. Riley's parents may have been Nathaniel ODELL and Fannie CRANDALL but I can't prove it yet. Any info would be much appreciated.
Steve, Englewolf1@juno.com

JOHN KIDDER

I have been researching the Kidder families from Princeton, Maine, for 7-8 years. There are still much information to be gathered. I would very much like to hear of anyone who is a descendant of John Kidder who lived much of his adult life in Calais, ME. John's first wife was Helen (Huntley) Kidder, and I believe they had five children. And, I need to find out about their lives. They were Charles Kidder (one time in Hawaii), William Kidder, John Melvin Kidder, Almira "Myra" Kidder (married Frank Dean), and Helen Kidder. After the death of Helen in 1874, John married Mrs. Jane Killman. John and Jane Kidder had a son, Joseph Lewis Kidder. ... I have met a descendant of Joseph Kidder, and he has a large extended family. In particular, Joseph Kidder's son, Lewis Estes Kidder had 12 children: Lewis Kidder, Jr., Marilyn Kidder, Vivian Kidder, Edith Kidder, James Kidder, Sydney Kidder, Irving Kidder, Gareth Kidder, Emily Kidder, Herbert Kidder, Judith Kidder, and Walter Kidder. ...... Up until the death of Lewis Estes Kidder in 1994 (buried in Franklin, ME), large family reunions were held in either Sullivan or Hancock, ME. My pen-pal would like to others to help him schedule another family reunion.

KIDDER Families in Chelmsford, MA, in 1600's/early 1700's

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any new information on the KIDDER families which lived in Chelmsford, MA, in the 1600's and very early 1700's .. which might not be included in "the Kidder book."

While trying to find out where "the Kidder homestead" existed in Chelmsford, Mass., during the 1600's, I have found out some new details this weekend .. and am getting closer to finding out. I believe it was in the southeastern corner of the Chelmsford of the 1600's, but I don't know whether that was in the current East Chelmsford or the current South Lowell.

Also, I noticed that David KIDDER was born in Chelmsford in 1706 .. but did not join the Church until 1746, and he did not marry Mrs. Esther (COREY) ESTABROOK until 1751.

I am wondering where (and how) David Kidder spent the first 20 years of his adult life.

According to the Kidder book, David and Esther had 5 children born to them between 1751 and 1762. And, I believe that David might have lived on "the Kidder homestead" during those years .. and going up to his death in 1787.

I am looking for the parents' names of Martha Kidder who lived in Eardley Twp QC in 1861 and was married around 1855 to Edouard Laporte, probably in the same area (Gatineau Cty). They eventually moved west to the Bonfield area, Nipissing District, Ontario. Martha was born around 1842 and is listed on various census documents as either Methodist, Baptist or Presbyterian. Martha and Edouard's children were Joseph, Alexander, Louisa, Emilie, Margaret, Julia, Edward, William and Roseanne. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is a two-part post. First, I am wondering if anyone knows what became of any of the children of James Kidder and Mary Babcock of Mansfield Connecticut, all children born late 1700's. Does anyone know where James and Mary are buried? I am looking for ANY leads to try and find their son Richard Kidder, who might be the same Richard who moved to Eardley Twp, Quebec in the early 1800s.
Secondly, I recently found this death registration on a microfilm reel I was looking through for an unrelated family, and I don't think it has any immediate connection to my Kidders, but thought it might be someone's lost relative:

Kidder, Clyde K., Male, Died June 4 1907 in Coleman Township, Nipissing District, Ontario, aged 23 years. Residence given as Colonial Mines. Occupation Miner. Single. Parents dead. Place of birth Newport, Vermont, USA. Cause of death pneumonia. Duration of illness 17 days. Person who reported death G.A. Schmidt.

Good luck!

KIDDER / GREENLAW Marriage, 1797, KIDDER / WILKINS Marriage, 1834, Maine / New Brunswick

I am researching the KIDDER family. The first Kidder to arrive in Washington County was Calvin Kidder (1765-1799). I believe he had a Land Grant in Princeton, ME, but I cannot prove it. Just last night, I found out the name of his wife (after 8 years of searching). In July 1797, in St. Andrews, NB, he married Mary GREENLAW. In January 1799, they had a son born to them. In February 1799, Calvin Kidder was killed in a boating accident in the St. Croix River. .. I would VERY much like to find out any information at all about the widow, Mrs. Mary Kidder, and her baby son, Joseph "Calvin" Kidder, and how they spent the years, 1800 to 1820. .. I have seen mention of the fact that Mrs. Mary Kidder might have died in 1819 in Portland, ME. .. The son, known throughout his long life as Calvin Kidder (1799-1891) was born in St. Stephen, NB, and that is where his father owned property and was part owner of the HARMONY SAWMILL. Calvin Kidder, the son, was in St. Stephen, NB, around 1830. But, around 1832, he moved back across the river to Calais, ME. In 1834, he married a woman from Amity, ME, Mary Jane Wilkins. They lived in towns between Amity and Calais, and had 6-7 children born to them. Their four children who grew to adulthood all lived in Princeton, ME. The three sons all had farms there, and the only daughter, Mrs. Davis, had a house in town. Anyone researching this Kidder family refers to their ancestor as .. Calvin Kidder from Princeton, Maine, and, indeed, he is mentioned in the book, "Early Princeton, Maine." At this point in my research, I am interested in the wives of the Kidder men. 1) Was Mary Greenlaw from a Maine family or from a New Brunswick family? 2) Did Samuel Wilkins of Amity, Maine, have a daughter, Mary Jane Wilkins? He had a son, George Wilkins. George had a daughter, Clarissa Wilkins, who married Joseph Kidder in Princeton, Maine.

CALVIN KIDDER, CALVIN KIDDER, JR., CALVIN KIDDER, III -- PRINCETON, MAINE

I would very much like to hear from people who are descended from Calvin Kidder of Princeton, Maine. In this particular case, I am looking for descendants of Calvin Kidder, born in 1842 in Princeton, ME. As I understand it, Calvin and Miranda (McLaughlin) Kidder of Princeton, ME, had 13 children born to them. However, only five or six lived to adulthood. Their first child was Daniel Kidder, and they had a son, James Calvin Kidder, III. And, I understand that the name, "Calvin" Kidder, has continued on in those families.
