I am a friend of Peg Eileen Bourke, daughter of Margaret Bourke (nee Kiernan}. Margaret was born in Longford on June 28,1896. When she came to this country she lived with three
aunts in the Hudson River valley. She lived to be one hundred years old. Peg met her uncle Michael once during WW II and understood that he was joining the maritime service but Peg was never able to discover any information about him. Peg would be delighted to know anything about her family relations. I have informed her about your posting and she is excited about the possibilities.

Sincerely, Tom Canavan

My Great Grandfather, Thomas Kiernan, emigrated to the US in 1866 at 20 years old. He lived in Princeton Junction, NJ and married Margaret Cahill. His father was James Kiernan and I am not sure of his mother's name or if they emigrated to the US. I am looking for any brothers or sisters. My tree is available on Ancestry.com.

Hi,
I had a lead on my great grandfather who was Edward Kiernan born in USA (1888-1925). His father according to ancestry.com maybe your Edward? I have no family records nor anyone to ask. Just grasping at straws. The info I have on his parents is just a guess on my part since I have been looking for 10 years and this is the first information I have found pertaining to Edward.

Very grateful thanks for the two splendid photos. It was very strange looking at the photo of Andrew Fitzsimons because his appearance reminds me so much of my father, and indeed of my Grandpa (William J Fitzsimons); there is something very characteristic about the way the pipe is held. But the face too is so similar to that of my father is in his old age. ??Which Andrew Fitzsimons - the one who was married to Catherine Duncan - or his son? Grandpa was apparently a keen amateur photographer, and therefore does not appear in many of the family photos. I have a photo of him in his younger days which I will try to dig out.

I do recall my father talking about the Fitzsimons family having been at Pennant Hills. I hadn't known it was an orchard although there was talk of horse travel. My father's Aunty Nelly and Aunty Catey lived in their old age near Sutherland in determined independence.

I recall seeing a copy of an 1860s local magazine reproduced in the history museum in Young and seeing in it an advertisement for tailors "Duncan and Fitzsimons" - who held themselves out as using nothing but the finest quality materials (on the goldrushes). I therefore assumed that Andrew Fitzsimons married the daughter of the senior partner.

My father did tell me the story of the diabetes, but not about losing toes. I am sure that the smoking would not have helped the vascular circulation either. (Perhaps our family should definitely avoid smoking). He remembered his grandfather as having been a very gentle man who disapproved of his grandsons irritating (throwing stones, perhaps at) birds. He also remembers that when WW1 broke out his grandfather commented that he thought the British would have learnt their lesson in the Boer War. I'm not sure what was meant by that. Gt Grandfather would certainly have been Protestant (?Presbyterian) Irish, which might account for the home wedding. By amazing coincidence I recently discovered that my mother's maternal grandparents were also married at Lambing Flat (Young) at around the same time. Just as well they ended up marrying the right spouses.

My father would no more have been capable of sewing on a button than of flying to the moon, so would have been hugely interested in his antecedents' occupation.

Thank you again for the photos. I shall make go looking for others when I can over the next few weeks

My Kiernan's from Country Longford were John and Annie Kiernan who were born around 1874 and came to the US around 1898. They had 9 children, but 7 of 9 children passed away before age 60 (2 lived into their 90's and passed away in the last few years) and only 2 of the 9 had children. Their daughter Mary was a nun, who is said to have 2 miracles, she died in her 40s. Their daughter Flossie had one son, Jackie Curan, but he passed away in his 40s. The only other of the 9 children to have children was my grandfather, the youngest of the 9. He had 1 son (my father) and 2 daughters. My father and his 2 sisters were the 3 remaining cousins, but we lost my dad last month at age 70. My father was the only Kiernan left to pass on the name in the US (we have no extended Kiernans here), however, he has 9 children and so my 4 brothers and 13 nephews are the only Kiernan's. I need to keep looking for more information, and will ask my mom for the information my dad had from his grandparents.

The Andrew Fitzsimons and Ann Kiernan you mention must also be my ancestors. Their son, Andrew Fitzsimons (b 1832 in Balinalee, died 1915 in NSW) was my great-grandfather. He came to Australia via America, and went to Lambing Flat (now Young), where he married Catherine Duncan, a Scot. I was given to understand that he came to Australia when there was no more gold to be found in America, but it must also have been around the time when the American Civil War broke out. Do you have further information?

Margaret Kiernan married Bernard Reillyin the uppermost part of County Cavan, close to the border of County Leitrim. Margaret remembered that as a small child she remembered sitting on her fathers shoulders and watched Napolen`s troops march by. Margaret was born about 1794. She lived most of her life in Springfield, New Jersey. She made many trips back to Ireland and brought back many members of her family. Margaret is living with her daughter Ann Reilly Farrell in Springfield New Jersey according to the 1870 federal census. Margaret passed away before the 1880 federal census. I am trying to find out where the family lived in County Cavan. All help is greatly appreciated.

He died in 1913 and is buried in Deepwater NSW. I have a death certificate for a Catherine Kiernan died 1922 in Sydney, but I don't think this is my Catherine. My grandmother Ruby Kiernan was born 1892, if that helps any.

I have a Thomas Kiernan marrying an Ann Sheridan with a son Patrick Kiernan who married a Bridget Kearns.Their daughter Mary Kiernan married a Michael Sheridan. Their daughter Mary Ellen Sheridan married Francis Curwin. Their daughter Mary Alice Curwin married Arthur Lewis Doherty from Wilton, NH the son of John Joseph Doherty and Agnes Keeley. Hopefully, we have made a connection. I've been researching this family for years

My stepfather's grandmother was a Catherine Kiernan, born 1871 in Drumroosk, Killeshandra parish, county Cavan. She came to the US alone in 1889, so presumably her family remained there. My stepfather always heard that the name of the town was Dumrookie, but I think it must be Drumroosk, where I found a Daniel Kiernan on the tax rolls in 1864.

Timothy and Anna Kiernan were my great-grandparents, my info shows that Timothy was born in Ireland in approx 1869 and came to the US in 1888. Anna was born in Canada in approx 1860, came to the US in 1863 with her parents Bart & Margrt. (I am guessing Margurite, since she named her daughter that). The children of Timothy and Anna where Margurite, elen, John, Bartholmew, and Leila (listed as Eliza on 1905 census. My father knows much more about the Albright connection than I do. Hope this helps.

I am wondering if you know where he is buried? Interestingly, he was the only one of the white vets who applied for a pension during his lifetime. Several of the widows applied as did Cyrus' widow Anne, but not white veterans.

My thanks for any information that you may be willing to share.
Hi Mary,
My mom (Helen Koch) just gave me your contact info so I thought I would send you an email. I just started doing research of my family tree myself a couple of months ago. I am assuming you are the person who wrote the reply to my post on Ancestry.com. I just read it. I used to go to the Connolley picnics years ago. I haven't lived in Illinois since 1981. My husband and 2 daughters and I moved to Texas at that time.

I am finding this really interesting. I was just in Illinois last month and visited Plano, Illinois. I went to the County Clerk and got a record of Mary Carrie Kelley marriage certificate. Her maiden name states Sullivan. Was she adopted? And if so, by whom? I believe her parents were Martha Jane Woodley and Noah "Orrie" Kelley. I obtained a copy of Martha and Noah's marriage certificate. Also I got Martha's death certificate a copy of her obituary also which said she was married to "Orrie" but he died and then she remarried to John Leitch. In the census Martha was with John Leitch and Mary lived with them. Why was she not living with them in her later years before she married Andrew. Did Martha give her up? And why? Do you have any info on this.

I also had some paperwork that my mom had that says Martha was born in New York 1841. Her parents were James Woodley b:abt 1812, and I found another family tree that shows Eunice Runnels to be her mother, but Eunice died when Martha was 4yrs old. It also had Samuel as James father.

I am trying to keep everyone straight and I would like to go back as far as possible. How much have you done? Do you have any other info that I don't have on this branch of the tree? I still have to go with the other branches, but just haven't had a lot of time to date.

Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon,

Mary Koch Edwards
Do you come to the reunion picnics as we do? I gave Helen info in '07. There are 2 corrections, and I've added some to what she has since then. I have all the Connolley ancestry that you show below and much more along with the Woodley and Runnell info. I've researched the Connolley ancestry since 2002 and did most of it since 2005. In the '90s one of my husband's cousin's daughtera did some, and I was able to add a great deal to that. I have the story on Mary Sullivan and Noah, whose middle name I think could have been Orrie. He and Martha had both lived in New York State before their brief marriage. I have a copy of the marriage certificate. I'll call your grandmother and give her my info so you can contact me directly. I just talked to her brother to ask who you might be, and he knew.
