Rather belatedly (2011)I stumbled across your post.the earliest Kildare I have found thus far is 1632 in Kingston Jamaica. They seem to been centered in County Down.My line starts in Scotland although my GGM was b in Ireland. Not sure about GGF he died in 1850 in Lanarkshire.Looks like the subject is worthy of a debate

James Kildare may be my great grandfather. He lived in NYC and I am pretty sure that my grandfather was named after him. He left my grandfather when he was young and the only contact that he had was a letter that he recieved. In the letter he told my grandfather that he was a groundsman at Yankee stadium.

Hi Nancy:
Do you have a maiden name for your grandmother named Elizabeth.
My Turner family lore suggests that one of my great grandfather's sisters by the name of Elizabeth or Mary may of married a Kildare. Of course if this did occured, it would be in the mid to late 1800's so propably is not your Elizabeth, but thought I check with you just in case..
Thanks,
Patrick Turner

The SSDI lists a Margaret Kildare, born 1896, died 1991, last known residence Rye, Westchester, NY. The 1920 US census lists a Margaret Patterson in Mamaroneck who married Frank Kildare between 1920 and the 1930 census, which lists them as married and living in Mamaroneck. Margaret's father John Patterson was my grandmother's half-brother. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has information on this family.

The actual surname in Ireland was FitzGerald. I don't know why it was changed for sure. My Dad (Thomas John Kildare) Gene's Cousin, said it was because of IRA conncetions in Ireland. They changed it to get away from the British. Don't know for sure, but that is what his cousin's in Ireland told him, when he visited there in 1969.
btw...sad not...Gene Kildare passed away a year or so ago.
