Hello, I am writing to ask if you know any connection with my family to the Killalea family in Omro/Poygan. My great grandfather. Alexander O'Reilly had a brother named Thomas O'Reilly/REilly.

Thomas married Mary Elizabeth Killea and had several children. Margaret, Susan is buried next to my great grandfather. Thomas, Henry R. and Gertrude nicknamed Gay.

Mary Elizabeth Killalea had a child named Henry.

Now, I have Thomas O'Reilly's Civil War packet and is in there are several letters from his children and to his children.

I am trying to connect the family and see if anyone can tell me how he is related to another O'REilly family up in Omro/Poygan. I did not realize that Mary Elizbeth Killalea-O'Reilly died in Cleveland Ohio soshe may have lived with one of her children at least one of her children/family must have

We might be related, but not directly. My mother's family were Killileas from Boston, MA. As kids, we were told that we were related to the former owner of the Red Sox. There was no proof other than the reasoning "the last name is the same and there aren't that many Killilea's in the world".

I know that my maternal grandfather's grandfather, Patrick Killilea (born in Ireland abt. 1850) was the son of John Killilea (born in Ireland abt. 1809) and Bridget Quirk (b. abt. 1812) and married Catherine Kelly from Galway in Boston. I don't know more than that.

What I know about Matthew Killilea (Henry's father) is that he was born in Ireland about 1827 and emigrated to the USA in 1848. I don't know where in Ireland he was from nor do I know when he and his wife Mary (Murray) got married.

This leaves me wondering whether John and Matthew were related, but since I know so very little about them, it's kind of futile to guess. If you have any information you can share, that would be greatly appreciated.

Killileas are hard to find. My great grandfather was Thomas killilea born in Ireland in 1840's or 1835. I just found where he got married for second time in 1867. His mother and father were MIchael and Sabrina KILLILEA. his death certificate said his mother and father were Michael and
Margaret Killilea.Thomas and his second wife Ann Conlon Killilea lived in Brooklyn in late 60's and early 70's.
Possible connection?

Henry was born in the Town of Poygan, Winnebago County, Wisconsin. His parents were Matthew and Mary Murray. His wife Lorrisa, they had two children Harold and Florance. He was an attorney with his brother in Milwaukee for the Rail Roads. They were founders of the America League - yes he did own the Boston Red Socks. I suggest you google him with baseball since it is an interesting story - including the first World Series. Later the owner of the Milwaukee Braves

After his death, his daughter was a baseball owner of Milwaukee. Again google to find out more. There are numerous "stories" in the local area about the family after Henry's death.

Well, that's the rub. I don't know if I'm related to you grandmother and that's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm related to Patrick Killilea, son of John and Bridget Killilea (most likely from Galway). But I don't know anything earlier than that.

The family anecdote has been that we were related to Henry Killilea, who was the owner of the Boston Red Sox in 1903. However, that's purely speculation based on there not being that many Killileas in the USA.

If you happen to know any additional information about Henry's parents, I would appreciate it.

OK, I have Patrick F Killilea (b. abt. 1850, d. 1906) married to Catherine Kelly (b. in Galway, Ireland [no date], and d. 1939). His father, John (d. 1883) was living with him at the time of his death. I have his mother's name as Bridget Kirk (close enough) but no vital information.

As of the 1920 Census, John Henry Killilea (age 43) was still living with his mom in Somerville. I'd love to know more about his family as well as share what I have about the rest of the family.

One update to this. According to the 1900 Census, Patrick Kilelea was born in 1852 in Ireland. He was 48 years old, emigrated to the USA in 1860, and had been married for 24 years. However, the 1880 Census lists Patrick Killillea as 30 years old (born abt. 1850) however it also lists him as being born in Ireland, so I think that's settled. But I'm still looking for other information about his origins.
Both of his parents emigrated to the USA from Ireland. He died on 22-Jul-1906 from cholera.

Ideally, I would like to know when he was born and whether it was in the USA or Ireland.

Unfortunately, both of Gloria's daughters were killed in a fire in august of 1958. If you wish to find out more about this, there is a group on yahoo groups for fans of the Killilea's of which I am a member. just go to groups.yahoo.com and type in marie Killilea's name and it should take you right to our group. We talk about many things other than the Killileas but we have also found out a lot of info about them. I caution you though that some of this info is not for the faint of heart. If anyone has any questions, please email me at Mtirk@aol.com. Hope yoou will decide to join us!

Millicent Tirk

Mary Killilea, b. Ire ca. 1870, family info?

What little information I have on my great-grandmother, mostly from oral history, is that she was born about 1870 in Galway, Ireland, supposedly on Inis Mor (the largest of the Aran Islands). Irish Gaelic was her primary language. Most records give her father's name as William (her death record gives it as Patrick). Her mother's maiden name is believed to have been Mary Hughes. Mary Killilea had at least one sister, and both emigrated to Boston, apparently around 1880.

If anyone thinks they may have any link or info, I'd love to know.

Best regards,
Wanda

Am not sure of this, perhaps there was an estrangement? or perhaps there were signifigant details about her changed for the books to protect her privacy?

I loved the books and believe that each person should read them at some point in their lives, it opened my eyes many years ago(at the tender age of 10!) about the difficulties handicapped children and families face, and unfortunately still face today.

Deborah,
Go to www.yahoo.com. There you will have to join by picking out a name and a password. There is no fee to belong. They will also ask for some other info (can't remember what but not too much). Once there look for the egroup called Killilea_fans. Messages are posted by number and are up close to 5000. You really don't need to go back to the beginning to learn about the family. Around number 3000 I think is when most of the info started coming in. Also check the dates. Most of the new info came to light around Jan. 2002. If you still have problems then write back and perhaps I can email you somehow with more info. Hope this helps.
Kim

You should join the Yahoo egroups for much, much info regarding the Killilea family. Last November Gloria Lea passed away and just in Feb. Russ passed away. One of our members went to his memorial service last weekend and met Karen, Marie and Gloria and Russ's children. Much tragedy has affected this family and is in past postings that you can access through the archives. Most of which has only come to light since the beginning of Feb. 2002. lol

Hi, Rich,

There is no Pennsylvania connection that I know of. When James and Marie were first married, they lived in Rye, New York. They had a totsl of five children: Marie (named for her mom) Karen, Rory, Gloria (adopted) and Kristen. Karen, Marie jr, and Rory were born in Rye, and Gloria was adopted when the family still lived in Rye. The second daughter Karen, had cerebral palsy and when she was 12, the family moved to Larchmont, New York. Karen went to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia for surgery but that's the only connection to Pennsylvania there is as far as I know. Hope this helps! Millicent
