Wife of Dave or David Colburn

I am searching for information on an unknown Kimbrough woman who married
Dave or David Colburn possibly in Franklin County, AL. From this marriage came my grandmother Martha A. "Mattie" Colburn Horton. Her dates are b. 13 FEB 1881 d. 27 NOV 1919. She is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Russellville, AL.

I am at a stand still in researching my father's mother's family because I can't find whom he was married to because most of the records that list a David Colburn will list the wife's last name also as being Colburn.

If anyone who is researching the Kimbroughs or Colburns could help point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

Mona,

I had posted my info a long long time ago and ever saw your reply until I started doing more research! It is always nice to "meet" new relatives, isn't it?

That is so neat that you remember her making clothes for you - she was really great at sewing, wasn't she? It is something that her daughter Vivian (my grandmother, who sadly passed away last September), my mother, and I also like to do (though sadly I think my talents pale in comparison to theirs!). One of my most prized possessions was a baby quilt she made for me when I was born, I wore that thing down til it was in tatters!

As for the informaton I have found, yes - there is a decent amount of information about the Weber side of the family in that family Bible (I have never actually seen it, I just got transcriptions of the information held in it from my mother. I have included all of the information on the older family tree I had been working on on ancestry.com - that one is called "Jess". I started making a new version after I found man errors in the info I had about my father's side of the family, but the info on my Kimbrough/Griffin side on the "Jess" tree is accurate to the best of my knowledge.

Last year after my grandmother had died, my mother and I were at Redfield cemetery (where Vivian Holt Griffin Moran and her son James C. Griffin Jr. are buried), we took pictures of the headstones of many relatives. Once I get them scanned, I will attach them to my family tree and you can feel free to save copies for yorself if you would like to!

Jess

Hello,
I am researching the Berry family for a relative and believe that Mary married an ancestor of hers. The trouble is I have found the marriage recorded in the UK and USA on the same date! Too much of a coincidence I think. Do get in touch if you want to exchange info. I also found the connection with James Dudley which confused me more as they were only a year apart. Maybe two heads will be better than one!
Best wishes
Veronica

Caswell Co, NC Kimbrough/Kimbro

I saw several posts on this line but wasn't sure where to jump in. I am not directly related but do have a letter written 1839 by my ancestor Paul Haralson whose wife Leannah Grave's had aunt or uncle who married a Kimbro. The letter has an amusing little story about Leannah's "cousin" Elijah Kimbro. The family connection is confusing but I think Elijah was son of Leannah's aunt Betsy Elizabeth Graves (1771-1818?) who married Thomas Kimbrough. Elijah could otherwise be stepson of Leannah's uncle Azariah Graves (1776-1837). Anyway I can forward transcript of the letter to anyone interested and would like to get the connections clarified.

Thanks, Tommy

I am very remotely connected to Kimbro/Kimbrough through my Graves line in Caswell Co. I have a letter written 1839 by my ancestor Paul Haralson who married Leannah Graves. The letter has an amusing mention of Leannah's cousin Elijah Kimbro. Elijah appears to be son of Leannah's aunt Betsy Elizabeth Graves (married Thomas Kimbrough) or step-son or nephew of Leannah's uncle Azariah Graves (1776-1837). Can you sort this out?
This family lived in Canton, Wilcox, AL in 1900. I would like to share information with anyone who knows more about this family. Several users of Ancestry.com have posted alternative names for Alice Kimbrough (b. about 1881 in AL), but the system did not track posters at that time. Please contact me if you know this family. My research on the Mason roots has led me to this record.

The first Marmaduke Kimbrough was the son of John Sr. Kimbrough and was born in 1663 in the British Isles and died at the young age of 13 in New Kent Co., Virginia. The second Marmaduke was born to his uncle, John Jr. Kimbrough, in 1710 in Hanover, VA

This is from your post - my question is who's the uncle that was the father of the 2nd. Marmaduke? Are you refering to the first Marmaduke's uncle or John Sr.'s uncle? Who is the "uncle"'s brother?

Hi Sue - Just wanted to check in with you about this theory. I've been trying to prove or disprove it since we last spoke, and so far, haven't found any documentation. Are you any closer to documenting Mary Shropshire as our Polly Kimbro? My gut believes it's true, but I don't want to get so attached to the idea that it blinds me from other possibilities. Any idea if Polly died in Bastrop Co. TX or elsewhere? I'm wondering if she might have moved from Benjamin's after Eliza died and lived with some of Naaman's offspring in Blanco Co.???? Just thinking out loud... Kathy

If anyone is still following this message, I have 2 books -- Caswell County Marriage Bonds & Will Books (2 vols). I am finding some Halifax Co, VA families moved to Caswell Co, NC. My Y-chromosome is actually Chandler not Jernigan and I'm trying to find how this has happened. I am finding possible relationships between Browning, Bruce, Chandler, Jernigan, Kimbro(ugh) & Roberts in Halifax Co, VA; Caswell Co, NC & Greenville Co, SC. I also have all 3 volumes of Hathaway's Register, Cavaliers & Pioneers and other genealogy books primarily for NC and VA. Perhaps together we can figure this out.

Hi Joseph, All Kimbrough and or Jimbro families in America are descended from three brothers who emigated to America in the 1600's to Virginia. My maternal grandmother was a Kimbro(ugh)Several of the Kimbrough men married Turners which would explain the middle name. some moved to Tennessee and some moved to Alabama.Do you have any other info?you can reach me at mburton910@yahoo.com I will be glad to do some poking around in my tree. many Kimbroughs ended up in Caswell County,NC from VA and moved on from there-regards Mark M.
Dallas Kimbrough b. 1845 Alabama

I have a brick wall. More like a steel wall. I need info on the following family. If there are no birthdates then I can't find any or places but I will try to keep the query simple. I need information on the following families. Henry White married a Joyce Kimbrough (have no dates). Their son Henry White married Mary Furline Kimbrough. (no dates) This was apparently a second or third marriage for Mary Furline Kimbrough. I find Mary and Children on the 1850 Franklin Co., Tennessee Census. Mary b. 1805 Va, dau Catharine b. 1835 Alabama, Charity 1841 Ala, James 1842 Ala, George 1845 Alabama. I believe the Dallas b. 1845 is my grgrandfather George Dallas Kimbrough. He was b. 1845 in Alabama according to the 1880 Obion Co., Tennessee census. I have a marriage record for George Dallas Kimbrough when he marries Missouri Goodwin in 1870 in Yalobusha Co., Mississippi. George, Missouri and several children d. ca. 1885 and the surviving children was taken by other families not related as far as I can tell. A couple of children was taken by a Judge in Alexander Co., Illinois. One sibling was adopted by another family in Alexander Co., Illinois. I have no other records for Dallas or his mother Mary or the above mentioned Kimbrough family. I was hoping that someone was researching any of the Kimbroughs mentioned. I need a clue or two. I can't find anything else on these family members. The marriage of Mary Furline Kimbrough, her parents is on ancestry with no one as a contact. Help please. Thanks Joseph

POW/MIA Korean War, KIMBROUGH

I am searching for the families of a soldier with the surname KIMBROUGH, he was lost in the Korean War. At this time the government has no family contact. At the time he was lost his remains were not recovered. Family DNA is needed to identify remains if and when they are recovered. At the time he entered service he gave his Home of Record as Jackson County, Missouri

Soldier: DAVID KIMBROUGH, JR
Born:Jan. 10, 1929 Black
Date of loss: August 8, 1930 MIA
Unit: 9th Inf Rgt, 2nd Inf Division

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. Our government has no family contact for David Kinbrough, Jr.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
517 Mohican Trail
Wilmington, NC 28409

40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Hi, Marmaduke was a common name in the Kimbrough/kimbro line as one of the first Kimbrough's in America was a Marmaduke, there were at least 2 Marmadukes born around the same time. One was from Rowan Co., NC who married Martha Young. The other was born in Caswell Co., NC Sally Love married M Duke Kimbrough on 30 Nov 1818.I am 99% sure this is my Mother's line.Marmaduke Kimbrough was the son of Thomas Kimbrough(1736-1803some say he was born in 1742) and Elizabeth "Betsey" Graves(1771-1828)He also had a Brother, maybe a twin or a year younger named Azaria. Many of these allied families moved to Missouri in the 1830's and 40's.Thomas Kimbrough was the son of Thomas Kimbrough and Eleanor Graves. The Kimboughs wee some of the first settlers of Caswell and are well documented there-hope this is of help-if not let me know and i will dig deeper-Mark

Thomas H. KIMBROUGH, Parents/Siblings

I'm researching the Kimbrough line from Caswell, NC. There appears to be more then one. The only facts I have, is that Thomas's father is Marmaduke Kimbrough (1796-1870)from North Carolina. Birth year is calculated from 1850 census in St. Charles, MO where he states is age as 54. His wife was Sally Love. Marmaduke died in Linn Co., Missouri so he cannot be the same one that ended up in Alabama. The more I dig, the more I'm convinced there are multiple lines of Kimbroughs. Do you have any info that could shed some light on my research? Thank you.

Marmaduke Kimbrough

Marmaduke was a family name that ran repeatedly through the line. The Marmaduke line I have been researching is Rev. Marmaduke 'Duke' b 19 Nov 1762 in Rowan Co. NC. He moved by the 1780's to what is now Jefferson Co. TN. Had 3 wives and numerous offspring. He died on 21 Sept 1849. There is a biography on him in the Early Tennessee Ministers book. Otherwise, I know little about the NC Kimbroughs. Marmauke wsa the son of Bradley Kimbrough and Sarah Thompson.
