I read your post and was excited to see a distant relative. My name is Philip , my mother was Deborah Kingsland. Her father is Harry Kingsland. I am the great grandson of Harry Weldon Kingsland. Harry W Kingsland is the son of Joseph Isaac Kingsland Jr. Son of Joseph Isaac Kingsland Sr, Son of Aaron Kingsland. Son of Isaac Joseph, son of Aaron, son of Isaac, son of Isaac the immigrant 1673. Anyway Aaron was my missing link for a while, thank you for the post. I attended a Kingsland family reunion in the early 1980's with my Grandparents, Harry and Laree Kingsland. It was at the Kingsland manor, where you there? I was only 11 I think but I remember the trip fondly.

Thanks,
Philip
Hi half-cuz, Karen K . . .

Thanks for the Info.. I have a-few Qs & Correx..

@ Do you have a Source.? or Documentation.? of Robert K birth & marriage.?

@ I dont have her name, but there is a date of Death for Robert's wife, on my page next.. No Source, and Not verifyed, yet.. "Mary Pinhorne" sounds suspicious, since a MP married Col Ed K-29 (.also on my page.)..

http://gene-herbkingsland.angelfire.com/NewGenes1/AAkSides1....

I have several Lists of my K Lines, from different compilers.. No sources (.except Ferris Line.) ... and some came from other lists.. Especially the FARETAIL about "Barnewall"..

@ Gus Sr, married Sarah FERRIS.. I dont know where the FERIOR came from, but I see that mistake often.. See my FERRIS page below.. I have some new notes/sources, taking my Ferris line back two or three more generations.. TO find, and add to that page..

http://gene-herbkingsland.angelfire.com/NewKbranch/Ferris1.h...

I have many correx, fix'z, and additions To DO ... on many web-pages.. Many of my Links are DeDD, because I am re-organizing over-stuffed sub-directorys.. I can only get two hours a-day, three or four days a-week, on public library computers.. So, all will take a very long time..

@ Gus Jr, married Twice (.see my K pages.) ... your Stephen b 1733, was half-bro to my Wm Sr b 1716..

@ I have Knotes on several STEPHENs ... on-paper, or already on Kingsland Message Boards, here (.a.com.) or at genealogy.com.. Mostly message from Other Desc's.. I have to look into my paperMess (.many pages, not in-order.)..

@ I also have ALL of your K ancestors, probably down to your Gran'ma Cynthia.. Maybe To You.? IF your name is Kurquhart, I will find-it.. This-all is in the Kingsland G Book (.KGB.), started by the de Beixedon boys in the 1920s(.?.), and continued by Louis Kingsland Jr (.1983 & 97.)..

I will get back to you asap.. Maybe some-things this week, more in future.. Right now I only have access to the 1983 edition, and pieces of 1997.. (..The rest is in Deep Storage..)

HKgeney

o o o o o o

I can trace back to Robert Kingsland b. nov 14 1596 St. James London,England- married to Mary Pinhorne. Their son, Gustavus Kingsland b. nov. 4 1658 in London married Sarah Ferior of Greenwich, CT USA.

The son of Gustavus and Sarah, Gustavus Kingsland Jr. b. July 24 1683 New Bergen, NJ, US married Rachel Makleen b. Oct. 29 1693.

Rachel and Gustavus Jr. had many children, but Stephen Kingsland b. 1733 in NJ is in my line. I'm not sure who he married...Elizabeth maybe?, but his son Cornelius Kingsland b. 1761 married Abigail Cock of New Castle, Westchester, NY.
Their son, Ambrose C. Kingsland b. 1804 in NJ, married to Mary Lovett of NY, became Mayor of New York City from 1851-1853 and was responsible for the creation of Central Park.
Their son Albert b. 1847 married Jennie T. Travis and their son Albert Kingsland (II?), b. 1893 NJ married Cynthia C Herd of Kentucky b 1888. From that marriage came my paternal grandmother, Cynthia Kingsland b. 1919 New York and married to John F Mitchell.

hope that helps
I'm looking for information on one daughter of Stephen and Leontine (Sage) Kingland. Their daughter Josephine married Roger Morgan in Hartford on July 13, 1906. They had a daughter born in 1911. They were living in Philadelphia in 1920 and Albany in 1930. Roger died in 1936 and Josephine died in 1941, both buried in the Morgan family plot in Springfield, Mass. But I haven't found death places for either and would love to know what became of Susan.

Hi, W.:

I have seen undocumented reports that Isaac's father was Robert Kingsland, but have not personally researched it. The bulk of what I have seen about Robert and his ancestors is contained in the webpage at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hoagland/h...

Again, I can't substantiate any of this. While it is apparent that Isaac came via Barbados, it is not clear that his father (whether it is Robert or someone else) spent time in Barbados.

Can you share with me your source for Isaac's wife Elizabeth's maiden name (Berry)? I have been told that the Berry name was reported in Winfield's History of Hudson County, but have seen no primary source for that conclusion. Do you know of any? I am fairly convinced that Isaac and Elizabeth's son John married Mary Berry.

Chris

Aaron Kingsland, born Arp. 5, 1805, died Apr. 27, 1868, owned a store in the Fulton Fish Market and in the 1850 census was a fisherman, born in N.Y. and lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. The New York City, New York 1859 City Directory shows his address as 265 Pearl, Brooklyn.

Aaron is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, next to his wife, Elizabeth.

From the Old Sands Street Methodist Episcopal Church of Brooklyn, N.Y. : an illustrated centennial record, historical and biographical;
Joined Sands Street Church about 1843. He was not learned, but was remarkable for practical, common sense, integrety and benevolence. He was a wholesale fish dealer, but his diligence in business did not interfere with his devotions. He hired a room convenient to his office, Fulton Market, as a place which he could retire for meditation and prayer. His habit was to pray every time he came into his house from his business. He kept a charity fund, and gave away one-tenth of his income. He died in 1868, age 63.

Son, Daniel Fowler Kingsland;Daniel lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1880. In Sept, 1892 he and his wife and children lived at 274 Jefferson Ave., Brooklyn.

He was killed during W WI and is on the list of the Keansburg High School Honor Roll Memorial. He worked at the Fulton Fish Market with his father.

Daniel and wife, Cornelia, attended the wedding of Lena Brown and Samuel Russell, Jr. on Dec. 15,1892 in Brooklyn. His daughter, Eloise, was a flower girl in the wedding. It took place at 8 O'clock at 207 Washington Park, the home of the bride's mother and had about 100 people at the wedding.

Aarons' father was Isaac Joseph Kignsland (Nov.,1782-) and mother was Mary Parker.

Isaacs' father was Aaron Kingsland (1775-1787)and mother was Margrietje C. Joralemon.

Aaron's father was Isaac Kingsland, (1697- May 17, 1779)and mother was Hannah Crane. Isaac's death could have been on May 5, 1776. Isaac lived in Belleville, N.J. His son, Abraham, was executor of his estate;

31 March 1791 (recorded 8 October 1805, Bergen Co. V:417) BERGEN COUNTY DEEDS (BOOK V), BERGEN COUNTY, NJ

Abraham Kingsland, Executor of the Estate of Isaac Kingsland Junior, deceased, of New Barbadoes Neck, conveyed to Gilbert Van Emburgh of the same place, for £8, 2 acres meadowland in New Barbadoes Neck, beginning SE corner Halmegh Sipp's meadow. Signed by Abraham Kingsland. Witnessed by Wm. McLom?, Abraham Van Emburgh.

The Encyclopedia of American Biography incorrectly identifies this Isaac as the husband of Johanna Schuyler.

Isaac's father was Isaac Kingsland (1648-Jan 1,1698)and mother was Elizabeth surname may be Berry). This Isaac was the first Kingsland to set foot in America, coming from Barbados to represent his uncle, Major Nathaniel Kingsland to claim Nathaniels' property in New Barbados Neck, N.J.

I have taken this line back to Adam, having worked on it in the 1970's.
This should give you a good start, Judy Kingsland
Kingslands & Smiths

We're both sort of right, Judy. It turns out that Francis E Smith, b 1830 did marry Mary Jane Russell, b. 1836. She was the daughter of (retired sea) Capt Joseph Russell and (Mary) Jane Kingsland, b. c. 1800, who in turn was the daughter of Stephen Kingsland jr and Mary Kipp. This info is from George Russell, a genealogist whom I met in a similar fashion to this contact.

Francis and Mary Jane Smith probably went to New Orleans in 1864 to bring back her uncle Stephen's widow and younger children to Glen Cove. FE Smith was developing large foreign markets -- Europe and South America -- for their flour mills, and I have no doubt that the Kinglands' fleet was involved.

I'd be interested in any stuff that you might have about the shipping busines, or any other activities around New York in the 18505-'80s.

Thanks a lot for the response. Stay in touch if you like.

Aloha from Hawaii. dsk

I'm looking for more info on these two shipping tycoons, more especially who their daughters married. My grandmother's uncle, Francis E Smith (b. 1825) was owner of a flour mill in Brooklyn and was a bit of a social climber. HIs son's name was Kingsland Smith (b. 1860). By 1900, he was referred to as Kingsland Kingslandsmith. My thought is that Francis probably had married a Kingsland girl, and probably she was not the daughter of Sam Kingsland the iceman. Any help would be most appreciated Aloha from Hawaii, David Kayner

I have looked through the info I have on the Kingslands nad I don't see a Philip. This line is through my husband's mother's side. His great Grandmother was Elveretta Rutan, b. 1855. Her parent's were Melancthon Freeman Rutan and Eliza Jane Smith. The parents of Melancthon were Henry Seguine Rutan and Rachel Kingsland. Rachel, b. 1795, was the daughter of William Kingsland and Margaret Kingsland, cousins. Their fathers are respectively, Edmund William Kingsland and Henry Kingsland, both sons of William Kingsland and Margaretta Coerten. All of these families were in NJ>NY. They could be related. I'll keep looking in what I have copied from the archives of the LDS Church. Please email me at dragonshelver@hotmail.com
