Charles Dudley Kinnear of Ohio

My great-great grandfather, Charles Dudley Kinnear, left his wife and daughter when my great-grandma was about 8 years old.

He was born in Ohio in 1873, son of Dr. Albert C Kinnear and Isabella Dudley. His wife was Clara Strobel, his daughter Helen Kinnear.

My Great-Grandma Helen was born in 1903, which based on what my grandma said would mean Charles left his family in 1911. But I think it must've been a little earlier, since I can't find him anywhere in 1910.

If anyone has any info on where Charles went or when he died, I'd greatly appreciate it!

--Jessica

I found your posting today, approximately 7 years after you posted it. Does somebody know if Moses possibly had a brother named William Kinneard/Kinnaird or Nathan Kinneard/Kinnaird. We have been stumped on this lineage for at least 30 years. Our James Sloan Kinneard/Kinnaird married Ellen McKellar in 1875, Ontario. (Ellen McKellar's mother's surname was McKay.) We had a marriage certificate that said the father of James Sloan Kinneard was William Kinneard of Randalstown, County Antrim, Ireland. We have the death certificate (died 1876) of William Kinneard and approximated birth date of 1807. Recently I found Nathan Kinneard to be the father listed in the Ontario Marriages -- father of James Sloan Kinneard. Everything else on the death record at familysearch.org is correct. We do have the copies of the church records, handwritten, which have the names of William Kinneard marrying Sarah Nichol in County Antrim. (I forget the name of the town, but can look it up.) James Sloan Kinneard's birth is listed there, too. Does anyone have any clues for us regarding the father of James Sloan Kinneard/Kinnaird who was born in or around Killnoch (now called Randalstown)in County Antrim, Ireland? We hope to learn the correct identity of the man and his wife and his children and his siblings. This has been our hope for 30 years. (No stalemates on our other lineages, just this one.) Mahalo nui.

Ravensnest, I have determined we are 3rd cousins. I had contacted a man who had posted a family tree for William and Ann Kinnear on FamilySearch.org and he was living in Australia. he wrote me back only to say he was not related but that he had posted it online for someone else. I had to have a leap of faith to determine my great-great grandmother was Janet Stiven Kinnear as she was only known as Jessie Kinnear here in Canada, and the US. I since have found corroborative evidence to support that fact. I checked our generations and we are the same number. William and Ann Kinnear are both our great-great-great grandparents. Please contact me either here or on my e-mail listed previously.

Hello long lost relative! George Kinnear had a sister named Janet Stiven Kinnear. Janet was known as Jessie when she came to Canada and no-one here in North America knew her as Janet Stiven Kinnear. She only had one child in 1874 before she died. I am one of the many descendants of the daughter and Alexander Fyfe (Fyffe) Where are you living? I'm in Minnesota, I know there are also relatives in Australia.

Hello, I have read your post and can relate many of my family history to the names that you have given. My grandmother was Margaret Stewart Kinnear, born in Dundee Scotland, Her parents were James Kinnear (born 01,16,1876) and Isabella Flemming (born Mrach 23, 1878) in Lochee Scotland. My Great Great grandparents were George Eason Kinnear and Janet/Jessie Whittet and going back one more generation his parents were William Kinnear and Ann Easson. Geroge Eason Kinnear siblings were William David Kinnear Janet Stiven Kinnear and James Kay Kinnear. I think that maybe there is a family tie here.

I have only in the past year found out that I am a Kinnear. My father was Cecil Thomas Kinnear, but I don't know much else about him. He lived with my mother, Esme May Gunning, a widow, and was with her for about 15 or so years. They had me adopted as Cecil was 39 and Esme was 42 so it would have been a difficult time for them. Esme already had three older children.
I was interested to hear of your father's faith as I am a strong Christian, an Anglican, who grew up in a non Christian household, but I had a belief from a very young age. It makes me wonder about these families I came from, and if they had the same beliefs I have. It was nice to read about your story, and I pray for you and your mother, Roseline, that your faith gives you strength as mine has.
Sincerly, Diane Scully (born Isobelle Kinnear)

Am researching James Kinnear (1789 - 1847) who married Mary "Polly" Ramsey and lived in Venango Co, PA. I believe Col James Kinnear was his cousin. I am having trouble sorting out which James did what! Which James owned the Kinnear hotel? I think both James served in the War of 1812, and perhaps in the same unit? Can anyone help me sort this out? Thanks

My name is Tracey Williams. My Grandmother was Bernice Leon Kieth(2-12-1919). Her mother was Pearl. I am trying to gather information on Minnie Hawkines Kinnear born 1869, who came to the USA from Switzerland in 1870 with her parents. I would love to know her parents names. She was married to Robert Kinnear in Venango, Sugar Creek, PA. I would also like to know if it was changed to Hawkines upon entering the states. I notice a HUGE screw up with the Kieth side of my family. I have one side linking to Scotland than another who was not Kieth, but Grig (pronounced Greesh) in Germany. It's sad how a family name can get lost in translation.

Hello.

I am Hoping for some help in tracing my gt.gt. Grandmother, Ann Kinnear. She was born in Ireland sometime between 1834 and 1840 (according to the census), and her father was James Kinnear, Labourer.
Ann moved to Leeds, where she married James Quirk in 1864, in the Roman Catholic church. They had two children, and then James died. Ann had another two illegitimate children (inluding my gt.Grandmother, Mary Quirk). She then married Michael Grogan in a Protestant ceremony. Their daughter Bridget married a Henry Lord.

I have sought help on an Irish genealogy board, and they have found an Ann born in 1836, Co. Cavan which may be her, but I was wondering if anyone here could shed any light upon Ann's forebears.

Thank you,
Jen Barker

Hi Val, I have contacted you before re: George Thomas William Kinnear but have mislaid your e-mail address so am making contact again by replying to this.

Can you help me with a mystery please? A cousin of my Mother's (the only one to continue the Kinnear surname in our family of his generation)states that George was the founder of the Whitehead Aircraft Company. I have researched this and can find no connection and the company was not founded by him. Do you know if he bought the company after it was founded or did he just work for them and his position has been enhanced through family stories over time? The company's main line of work was to make bi-planes during WW1 but they then went into car manufacture after the war. Kind regards, Jo.

I have had a look at your tree but mum said it doesnt ring a bell but the problem we have is we know very little about my mums mum the kinnears. All we know is that my grandmother had her mum as Lilias Templeton and her father as George Kinnear. A brother named William who died of a motorbike accident when he was young and a sister Effie who died of Polycystic Kidneys which is a disease that runs in the family. They all lived in Glasgow Scotland until my granny moved here with mum and family in the 1960's. My grannys Aunty moved to Ipswich QLD in the 40's ( we think) with her twin girls. We dont know their names though. We are not sure if any of her family moved her prior to 1940's eg great auntys or uncles or cousins etc. Its so hard to trace and its driving me nuts not knowing where to start!

They lived in Western Queensland, Australia and later in Brisbane, Queensland. Sara had a sister May.
I am also researching my husband's family who lived in Tasmania, Australia. His grandfather was Thomas Shaw and his great grandfather was Riobert Shaw. They lived in Stanley, Tasmania and in Sydney. If you are connected I would appreciate any information.

Hi everyone, please don't think I have forgotten about you. I hope to get back to the Kinnear history in a few weeks. Right now I am preparing for the Flinn centennial reunion to be held in two weeks.
A foot note: a friend just got me a two volume reprinting of Kinnears and their Kin. I have yet to go through it to see if I can find a connection, but there is a branch of the family that went into Quebec. My friend has found another book about a Kinnear he is ordering for me. I'll get back on this in a few weeks.

Hello, there must have been a lot of Kinnears passing through Ontario. My Gr-Gr-Grandmother was Janet Stiven Kinnear (Jessie) arrived in Ontario about 1872 with her fiance' Alexander Fyffe from Scotland. They married in 1873 and had a daughter Anna in 1874. Jessie died in Ontario in 1879 in a horse-buggy accident and I have not been able to find her. She would be Janet Fyffe or Jessie Fyffe (1851-1879), I do not recall what county they lived in.
