Do you know where and when they died?

Their death certificates, if available, might name their father.

Have you tried to find birth certificates for them as well? Where and when were they born?

Re: Kirby - Discovered Taunton, MA

Mary Harrigan's father was William Harrigan, born in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland in 1827 and died in 1897 in Taunton, MA. He was a coppersmith. Mary's mother was Catherine (Kate) Kirby. Catherine was also born in Ireland. Her parents were Hannorah Barry and Thomas Kirby, both of Ireland. Catherine was born in 1832 and died in 1836.

Mary Harrigan tragically died shortly after her son (your grandfather) William Kirby Haley was born. William was raised by his father's cousins Mamie and Ben O'Hara in Wakefield, MA until about the age of 10 or 11, when his father remarried.

Taunton, Massachusetts was founded by Elizabeth Poole around 1637-1639 when it was incorporated. Taunton was the first town to be founded by a woman in America.

I have heard that there was a statue erected at one time to a Josiah Kirby, but have been unable to learn anything more. There once was a Kirby Square in Taunton to which I found several references, but it seems to have vanished.

Any of you still living on Smith's property know of such a cemetery? Just curious since Smith and his "girls" are buried at Sardis. Any of you know where his parents may have been buried? Or where they actually resided?

Many thanks,
a cousin

Kirby from County Mayo

Hello -
I've hit a brick wall trying to find Kirbys in County Mayo, Ireland and wondered if anyone can help. My ancestor William Kirby was a labourer born in Mayo in about 1832 and emigrated to Manchester, England, in about 1864. He married Ellen Muirhead in Manchester in September 1866. His father was named as Patrick Kirby, a deceased labour who would have been born in about 1813. Witnesses to his marriage and godparents to his children were called Hynes and Naven and may possibly be from Ballintober, but no definite connection to William. There was a Michael Kirby in Manchester born in about 1817. He was from Castlebar, but I don't know if he is a relation. Any help or possible links would be appreciated.

I'm following this discussion from years ago of the Kirby's. I'm a gggrandchild of Shep Kirby's. I thought the discussion interesting about "Fate" Kirby. No doubt, the Thomas Lafayette Kirby was Fate. Even today folks in Jackson County TN pronounce Lafayette - La Fay et, with the stress on the middle syllable pronounced Fay. My grandfather Thomas Franklin Birdwell b. 1881 was possibly named for Fate. My gf was the son of Martha Kirby, Shep's daughter.

Hello, Rosemary! It's never too late for a reply. My husband (also a David) is the Kirby. After having found his direct line I ran into a distant cousin of his who filled me in on yet another branch of the Kirby family. Then I started trying to track down all the descendants of Robert Kirby (ca 1700 Huggate, Yorkshire). That explains my trip down your family line to your husband.

I'd be very grateful to fill in your branch of the family. Very few of the Kirbys emigrated, though I did track down yet another branch to Australia. I'd be delighted to share the information I have. It is all contained on Ancestry.com in a family tree, so if you send me your email address, I can send you an invitation to view the tree I have. My email address is laukel AT waitrose.com. I have seven children for Joseph and Christiana -- Thomas, James, Cordelia, Mary Ann, another Cordelia, Stephen and Joseph the younger.

Best wishes,
Laurie
I'm seeking descendants of Robert Phares Kirby (b. 1812, OH) and Tamson Currie/Gandy. I have found two similar, but slightly different stories about their marriage, both involving Robert marrying Tamson.

In the first, Robert ran off with a Tamson Gandy, who deserted her husband, unnamed.

In the second, Robert married a Tamson Currie, whose husband, also unnamed, was killed in an attack on the wagon train in which they all were traveling between Kansas and Texas.

In both cases, Robert was given up for dead by the wife, Phebe, and children he left behind in Illinois.

I'd like to make contact with descendants of either of Robert's families, but most especially those descended from Tamson.

They did indeed come to Canada where they had 5 more children. Their youngest, Stephen, was my husbands grandfather. Please get in touch so I can provide more info.
Rosemary Kirby

My gran uncle was Michael Kirby from Co Clare Ireland who immigrated to New York through Ellis Island, I have been checking Truagh parish record,s and Michael was Baptised on the 28th Aug 1890 but you if you step back seven day,s his Date of birth would have been 21st Aug 1890. Because of the high rate of death,s in Infent,s in the late 1800,s they were Baptised within seven day,s Truagh Parish Church is were Michael was Baptised it was built in 1860. I will send on photo's of Truagh Church to you at an later date.

I'm in search of any information relating to a Annie Maria KIRBY born 1870-1871 in Sydney. I've located her upon my Great Grandfather's brother's birth certificate.

She was 19 at the time she had my Great Grandfather, William John SHERDEN according to his birth certificate she was born in Sydney, New South Wales and she married my Great Great Grandfather John SHERDEN on 29th July 1887 in Sydney..

However, both these records are not found on BDM NSW.

Other information suggests she passed away prior to 1897

Any information would be extremely helpful.

Regards,
Lee Bodell - lynx_33@hotmail.com

Do you know the name of Michael Kirby's wife? My great grandfather was Michael Kirby who immigrated from Clare to NYC around 1909. His birthday was 21 Aug 1890. He had a son Michael Joseph Kirby Jr with his first wife who died. He then married my great grandmother Margaret Kitson Kirby and had 4 more children. The groom in this picture looks similar to my great grandfather, but the bride does not look like my great grand mother.

James William Kirby and Ella Barrow (or Maye?)

My grandfather James W Kirby married Ella Frances Barrow (or Maye) we assume in WV because that is where both were from. All records list Ella Kirby as being born in West Virginia in 1887 but I'll be darned if I can get any further than that. It is like she didn't exist. I've tried Ellen and Elli though we and SS have her listed as Ella. The story goes that she was a May or Maye then when she was 6 for some reason she went to live with the Barrows? She had 3 siblings, Robert (Bob) May(e), Charles May(e) and John May(e). If anyone has any information or a direction they could point me I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Hi Linda,

I will see if my daughter can get some clear shots of the Bible. When I write to you in an E-Mail, I will tell you the magnificent and almost unbelievable story as to how I received the Bible. There are also some old letters and notes that were with the Bible. I have been researching to try to identify all of the names. I have had access to many old Family Bibles, but this is the first I have seen that actually has a family record page for the slaves. Their slaves must have been treated very well and like important members of the family.

Nancy Frame
