Kirby's in Iowa

I am looking for information about Albert L. Kirby and his wife Blanche Anderson Kirby. Albert was born in Wisconsin in 1885. Blanche was born in Iowa, also in 1885. They lived in Bayfield Iowa in 1934. Blanche was my Great Aunt, the sister of my Grandmother, Minnie Anderson Ellenbolt. Blanche and Minnie were the sisters of former Clear Lake Mayor Anton (A.N.) Anderson.

I'm looking for the date and location of Blanche's passing, and whether or not she and Albert had children.

James Samuel and Elsie Pearson Kirby

Their son, Robert Jackson Kirby, born July 25, 1929, just passed a way March 15, 2008. Robert was an old friend of our family and with his mothers name being a Pearson, and from The Plains, in Virginia, I have a feeling Elsie may have been from FAUQUIER COUNTY, VA.

Pearson, Paynes, Wilson's are my line and I am now trying to figure out where Elsie Pearson fits in.. If I am right about Elsie being connected to the Fauquier area, it is possible that I am finding that this Robert Kirby was actually related to our Family, not just a friend as I had always thought.

Robert was once married to a lady named Nellie, but later married a Doris Virginia Helsley (whom he was with at the time of his death).

If anyone has this Kirby line with the Pearson line, Please contact me here or at Barbaracrs@msn.com.. Thank you.

John Henry Kirby, Easton, Talbot Co., MD (b. ca. 1795)

Recently I came across a private memoir written in 1858 by Rev. Edmund Wesley Kirby. In it, he briefly mentions some info about his father "John Henry Kirby":

1) John H. Kirby was born and raised in Easton, Talbot Co., MD.

2) John H. Kirby's father was quite wealthy and died when John H. Kirby was young, bequething John H. Kirby a small fortune.

3) John H. Kirby was 52 years old when he died, approximately late 1840's, and probably died in Harford Co., MD. (He did not die before 1843, that's for certain.) This places John Henry Kirby's birth ca. 1795, give or take a few years.

Anyone recognize this John Henry Kirby and which Kirby family in Talbot County he may be related to?

Thanks!

Jon Noring
jon (at) noring.name

Huddleston - Thomas - Kirby - Clements Cemetery in Bedford County, VA

Hello,

We are looking for descendants of Henry Huddleston 1775-1845 who married Martha “Patty” Lloyd. They were my 3rd great grandparents. The family cemetery where he is buried along with several other Huddlestons, Thomas’, Kirby’s, and Clements’ is in Bedford County, VA and was, up until recently, in an active cow pasture. The cows have broken many of the headstones that were not surrounded by a fence and trampled them into the mud. Over the past two years a small but dedicated group of Huddleston and Thomas descendants have traveled from various parts of the USA to Bedford County, VA and worked to remove unwanted invasive species of trees and shrubs and fought hard to get the owner of the surrounding property to fence his cattle out of the cemetery. Henry's Huddleston’s tombstone had been broken off near the bottom and knocked down. We excavated it and moved it inside a small fenced area so the cows could not damage it further.

We have been successful in getting the owner of the cattle and surrounding property to remove the cows from the cemetery area and put up a temporary electric fence to keep them from returning. However, this cemetery is in pitiful condition and we desperately need to put up a secure fence to protect our ancestor’s graves from any further damage. We also need to exterminate a colony of ground hogs that has burrowed into the Thomas area of the cemetery. One of the main problems we ran into when we first undertook this cemetery restoration project is that the cemetery was “excluded” for the sale of the original Huddleston family farm in 1949 and was meant to remain in the care of surviving family members forever. However, the cemetery was never properly surveyed and recorded at the Bedford County Courthouse with its own deed and plat etc. Additionally, the rightful Huddleston owners and heirs did not know that they had inherited the cemetery. Due to shoddy land surveying practices employed in the area the cemetery never received the proper legal protection required by Virginia State Law as the old Huddleston farm was further subdivided and sold off bit by bit.

Fortunately, another descendant who is a Virginia Licensed Land Surveyor and Professional Engineer has conducted the deed research and surveyed the cemetery so that we can ensure that the site is properly protected from now on. Currently, the boundary survey and plat for the cemetery are complete and ready to file. The Articles of Organization for the Huddleston-Thomas Cemetery, LLC have been prepared and put in the mail to the State Corporation Commission. The Quit-Claim Deed is prepared and will be mailed to the heirs next week (the elderly heirs have agreed to sign the cemetery over to a group of younger descendants). A draft Operating Agreement is being prepared (95% complete). This is the real business end of the LLC and will deal with members, meetings, accounting, etc.

So you see all the hard research and legal work has been taken care of and now we are turning our focus toward the physical protection (fencing) and restoration of the cemetery. We are looking for other descendants who might be willing to contribute to the cost of a fence and/or other cemetery restoration needs. We will be getting estimates soon from a fence contractor who also happens to be a descendant and from area stone masons for help in resetting toppled headstones and repairing/replacement of broken headstones.

According to Bedford County Museum Cemetery Survey the others buried there are:
Frank J. Huddleston Jan 20, 1868- Feb 9, 1916
Florrie M. Huddleston Feb 8, 1899-June 15, 1900
Donald Berkley Huddleston Sept 13, 1909-Nov 24, 1935
Fannie E. Huddleston Sep 4, 1872- Apr 3, 1940
Henry S. Huddleston Nov 1, 1834 - Mar 8, 1922
Mary E. Huddleston Aug 18, 1842-June 20, 1907
Fountain P. Huddleston Sep 9, 1874-Oct 28, 1931
Florence Porter Huddleston Oct 10, 1873-Feb 16, 1958
Bettie W. Kirby Clements Oct 17, 1855-Jul 2, 1919
Mary J. Kirby Oct 8, 1823-Mar 25, 1893
Geils Donald Thomas 1873-1945
Louise Elizabeth Yancy 1866-1942
William P. Thomas Nov 3, 1927- Apr 22, 1918 (CSA Civil War Veteran)
Sarah C. Thomas Dec 31, 1833-Mar 31, 1888
John P. Thomas May 13, 1864-Sep 22, 1965
Sarah A. Thomas died Jul 4, 1856 (age 24)

Also, on Thanksgiving Day 2008 we unearthed the headstones of Martha “Patty” Lloyd b. 1778 wife of Henry Huddleston (b. 1775, d. 1845). Her headstone is badly broken and is likely beyond repair. We also unearthed the headstones of Richard Huddleston and his wife Elizabeth (Oyler) Huddleston. They are my 2nd great grandparents. Photographs of the cemetery and the various headstones are available for those interested in joining the cemetery protection/restoration project team.

If you can help in any way, please feel free to contact me at retandkt@earthlink.net or Maryanna Weeks at amweeks@adelphia.net . Please forward this message to anyone else you know researching these Huddleston or Thomas lines.

Sincerely,

Robert Thomas,
Wake Forest, NC

I have a large file of info on various Kirby families from East Kent, England. My own line starts in Blean, Kent (near Canterbury) with Nathanael Kirby who married Mary Pim in 1759.
Walter Kirby 1875 Yorkshire - 1955 Tasmania and family

I'm looking for information about Walter Kirby who was born in 1875 in Acklam, Middlesboro', Yorkshire, son of John Richmand Kirby and Annie Hicks. He married Beatrice Emma Adams, probably NOT in England or Wales. She was born 1882, but where? They had 5 children: Dorothy, Harry, John, Mary (died 1950) and Walter Jnr. When, where were they born? Walter died in 1955 in Perth, Tasmania, Australia. His wife died in 1972 -- same place? If there are any descendants of this branch of the family, I have Kirby family history back to 1700 and am very happy to share.

Joseph Kirby b 1821 Yorkshire and wife Christiana Allenby b 1825 Yorkshire

I have run into a brick wall with Joseph Kirby christened 8 Jul 1821 in Helmsley (son of Stephen Kirby and Cordelia Garton) and his wife Christiana Allenby or Allanby, born in Pockley and christened 9 Jan 1825 in Helmsley (daughter of James Allenby and wife Christiana Dawson). I find both in the 1841 and 1851 censuses. They married in the 1st Quarter of 1852 (registered in Helmsley). In 1854 they had a daughter, Cordelia Kirby, who died in late June or early July 1857. After this, this couple vanishes. Both (unfortunately) have names shared by siblings and cousins, so it is difficult to untangle the strands of the family. I am wondering if they emigrated -- there are no death records for them and no one in the 1861 and 1871 censuses with similar names matches their profiles. Anyone have any information?

Searching for information about my greatgrandfather, mustered into the U.S. Army, September 23, 1864 at Cleveland, Tennessee. His age is listed as 30. He was First Lieutenant William C. Kirby, Company "C", Fifth Regiment, Tennessee Mounted Infantry Volunteers, Army of the Cumberland. Records show a William C. Kirby married to a Susannah Hodges in Dekalb, Tennessee, on September 1, 1862. Other records show a William Kirby born in 1833 in County Cork, Ireland. His son, Thomas Newton Kirby, my grandfather, lived in the Rome, Georgia area and retired from the Southern Railway. The only information I have about my greatgrandfather is his civil war papers.

I would appreciate any help in finding out more about my father's family.

Hi There

I'm trying to find the ancestry of my great great grandfather George Goldsmith Kirby born around 1806:

ttp://members.cox.net/ggthomp/georgegoldsmithkirby.html

He married (no date) a Harriet Sarah? b: abt 1805 Stratford, Essex.

We've managed to identified the following children:

Harriet Sarah, Born abt 1831 - London
Emma Augusta, Born abt 1832 - London
George Frederick, Born abt 1833 - London
William Henry, Born abt 1834- London Died 19 Feb 1859
Edward Goldsmith, Born abt 1836, London Died 24 Aug 1860, Age 24
Montaque Alexander, Born abt 1837- London
Arthur Raymond, Born abt 1841 - London (Married Gertrude Fleming)
Alfred Octavius, Born abt 1843- London (Married Alice Baxendale)
Henry Dillon, Born abt 1845 - London Died 6 April 1860, Age 15
Augustus George, Born 22 Jun 1847- London (Married Edith Smith Dorrien)
Katherine, Born abt 1849 - London

We now that he was managing director of the Albert Assurance e Company, and lived in various locations including: Little Marble Hill, Twickenham; Saint Clement Danes, Westminster, London; 5 Kensington Park Villas; 57 Queen's Gate; 7 Waterloo Place, London; and 3. Kensington-park-gardens East.

Some of the leads I'm following are a John Kirkby of Upper Rawcliff cum Turnaker who forfeited all his lands to the Commonwealth government for having supported the royalist cause... c. 1640.

Joshua Kirby (famous painter in 18th century c. 1712 - 1788, friend of Gainsborough) and Joshua Kirby Baldrey 1752-1828 - another painter who may have been Joshua Kirby's son, as we mysteriously have something about him in our family papers.

There's a potential connection with the county of Lancashire in the UK, so it could also be WIlliam Kirby Esq of Aslack, Lancashire whose daughter eleanor married Humphrey Senhouse of Netherhall or Ellenborough in about 1700 or so (his son died in 1718 umarried...).

There's also a Turner Kirby connection as the Rev. J. Kirby Turner assisted in the marriage of his son:

The Times, Monday, Jul 19, 1875: MARRIAGES
On the 15th inst., at St Jame’s Church, Piccadilly, by the Right Rev. the Bishop of Guildford, assisted by the Rev. J. Kirby Turner and the Rev. A. G. Kirby, ALFRED OCTAVIUS KIRBY, of 57 Queen’s Gate, to ALICE, eldest daughter of LLOYD BAXENDALE, Esq., of No. 58 Grosvenor Street.

I think the Rev. J. So please forgive me if I haven't asked this in the right way or given you the kind of information that his helpful, but if anyone could give me some pointers then it would be very much appreciated.

Best and thanks

Justin Kirby

PS - I may have to ask a similar question in the Goldmsith family forum.

I am looking for any information on my great grandmother Fanny Kirby (1914-2000). She married Thomas Aubrey Kennedy (aka Robert). Her siblings were Hap, Charlie, Tom, Burt, Bill, Reg, Sid, Eric, Annie, Dorothy and Ede. Her mother was Frances (we believe her maiden name was Butler) and she had a sister named Fanny that my gret grandmother was named after. All we know is that they lived in Doon for a time and also somewhere just outside of London, England.

I'm stuck. Thomas was my g-grandfather; I can't find anything about his family. Children with Nancy Powell appear to be James, John, Nollie, George, Vera, Brown. My grandfather was John Thomas. I've heard reference to Smartt, TN - which is indeed in Cannon Co.

Thomas may have been born in Kentucky.

The family apparently moved to Oklahoma sometime before 1920 (residence = Alfalfa Co, Oklahoma in 1920 census) which is where John married my grandmother, Pearl Ingram. They stayed in in Cherokee OK.

ANYTHING would be helpful to learn something about the Kirby side of the family.

William Henry Kirby, born 1868 in Banbury/Coventry?

William was my great grandfather and was married to Amy Upton from Great Bourton near Banbury. They had at least 12 children, though family legend says there were actually 16, 8 boys and 8 girls. My grandfather was Harold Kirby. They moved around a bit, but eventually settled in Coventry. According to William and Amy's marriage certificate, his father was Thomas Kirby, with unknown occupation and William was living in Fenny Crompton (also near Banbury). I cannot trace William any further back than his marriage, as he is down as being born in different places in different censuses - Foleshill, Solihull? His year of birth is always consistent though. I suspect he was actually born near banbury but have no proof.

Can anyone help please?

Nancy Kirby Family

Nancy KIRBY married Gilbert B. Cook on January 14, 1869 in Edgar County, IL. I also know that she had a brother who lived in Terra Haute, IN. Gilbert and Nancy later moved to Hunt City, Jasper County, IL where she died. Don't have documents, but family story is that Gilbert then married Nancy's sister, who had been widowed. I am looking for any information about the KIRBY family from either Edgar County, IL or Vigo County, IL around 1860.

Kirby in Sparta, TN (White County)

My Great-Grandfather Thomas Vernon Kirby was born in Sparta, TN (White County) on 1/1/1878. He moved to Hill County, TX (date unk) and married Roxie M. Lowe (date unk) who was born in Malone, TX (Hill County) on 4/7/1881. They lived in Hill County perhaps in or near Hubbard, TX. Thomas died on 5/17/1943. Thomas and Roxie had two sons (John Kirby and Wayne Jefferson Kirby) that I know of. I dont know of any daughters. John was my great uncle and the date of his death is unknown to me. Wayne Jefferson Kirby was my Grandfather. He was born in 1909 near Hubbard, TX and died in 1984 in Waco. He signed his name W.J. Kirby and went by the nickname of "Bill". He married my Grandmother Ida Tindell (date unknown) and moved the family to Waco sometime in the late 1940's or early 1950's. He worked for the Waco Transit Company until his death in 1984. My Great-Grandfather Thomas, Great-Grandmother Roxie, Grandfather Wayne and Grandmother Ida are all buried in the Cottonwood Cemetary on TX FM Road 2114 West of Hubbard, TX in Hill County. I am looking for as much information as possible about my Great-Grandfather Thomas. The amount of information I know is displayed here. To my knowledge, he worked as a farmer all his life. I would appreciate anyone who could provide me additional information. Thanks.
