I descend out of the William Edward Jones and Frances Matilda Kirkland line, and am searching for info on Frances Matilda (my g-g-grandmother's line). I will appreciate all the assistance I am offered.
Also William's sister Sarah Ann Jones married John Wm. Kirkland. Both couples married in 1855 in Hardeman County, TN. I have their Marriage License for both couples.

I will try to find the info I have on your request.
Out of memory I know that the info you want the Kirklands were associated with the Cumberland Church.

rodeo88us@yahoo.com

If your Kirklands were related to Frances Matilda Kirkland, your people may have been those that were a part of William and Frances household. Plus Frances brother and wife's children were placed in the homes of William and Frances and his sister's home Emily and Thomas Wm. Bills' home in Lamar County, Texas. The children were placed there after their parents died unknown date and place. If you know when and where, I will sure appreciate your assistance. All I know is that it wasn't Texas. Their last child was born in Hampshire, Maury County, Tennessee, according to his death certificate. My guess for date and place would be Tennessee.

They were married Feb 1, 1825 in Madison, Alabama and are on the hardeman Co. Tennessee census in 1850. Some of their children migrated to north Texas very early and they show up around the same time my Pollard Kirkland arrives in Navarro/Ellis/Johnson Co. Texas. Pollard's wife was born in Tennessee and their first daughter Susan Kirkland was born in Tennessee abt. 1826. I already know that Pollard is not his given name so I believe that he may be one that "went west" and nothing else was heard from him. One other thing is he bought land in Greene and Jersey Co., Illinois in 1829 and one track with a Hail MASON and John BOSTWICK. I can not connect these folks. Thanks for reading my plea but I am into about one year of just Kirkland's and hit a brickwall.

I am researching the Kirkland's in North Texas and have crossed pathes with the children of Edmond Kirkland m. Elizabeth Steele in Tennessee. Does anyone have any idea who he belongs. PLEASE! I believe that he may hold a key to my direct line of Pollard Kirkland {Not his real name} some names associated with these Kirklands may be WOOLSEY, PATTON, NEWTON, DUNN, DIXON, and PARKS. One source has Pollard's name as Francis Wood Pollard Kirkland, however, I cannot get a response and have found no proof. The names Isaac Pollard, Isaac William, William Pollard Kirkland are continued through this family. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My name is Barry Wilcox my grandfather was broughton campbell ,my grandmother was Mollie rymer campbell when my grandfather passed away i was given his bible which had a few papers inside one of which talked about kirkland bushwackers it reads: Bushwacker Kirkland, between yellow creek and the little tennessee river in Graham county as it now exists used to live two men by name of kirkland one of whom came to be known before end of civil war as bushwacker kirkland the other was called turkey trot john kirkland, they joined confederate army at beginning of war,but soon after became a independent command they were frequently accused of certain depredations upon the property of union loving citizens living in east tn and great smokey mountains.According to John Denton of Santeetla who was in there companywhile in regular confederate army said these were brave men physicaly.According to paper Captain Lyons Raidcame through tennesseethrough what is now known as the Belding Trail to Robbinsville NC. Graham Co.the trail was then known as the hudson trailfrom the man who first lived were David Orr now lives on slick rock creek this trail had been used by cherokees for years. Lyons men killed jesse kirkland a kinsman of bushwacker and turkey trot john and two other men one was named mashburn the other hamilton and probably others, this was done on Isaac Carringers creek about a half mile from mouth they killed an Indian in robbinsville which was the home of Junaluska the indian chieftain then went up santeetla spent the night returning next day to Unaka mountains and camping that night on Bob Stratton Meadows.I hope this is some insight again it was written then typed out inside my grandfathers bible along with some other stories.

My grandfather's name was General not George. He was married to Lettie Pearl Snell. Your name Hattie Purvis sounds so familar. Could your mother have been our neighbor in Cottonwood? I can't remember possibly your mother's name but her children were Betty Joyce and Rupert? All I knew her by was Mrs. Purvis. My parents are Bill Betty Cobb. Her granddaughter was Sherry Jackson who married Alan Nowell who is my cousin down the line 2nd or 3rd. I will get more details where my gfather's family actually came from.

My 2d great grandfather, JOHN E J KIRKLAND 1854-1906, married MARGARET HOOKER 1860-1909. They are buried in Plant City, Hillsborough County, Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Kirklands and the Hookers were all from Hillsborough County. I don't recognize any names posted here so far, but I assume there is a connection somewhere.

I am most interest in Gueatemala Kirkland who was the mother of William Dale Kirkland. She was born in 1860 and died in 1961. I have found her in several family trees and interest in finding a living heir. I was looking through some books and came upon one I had purchased in PA a number of years ago. It is inscribed with Gueatemala's name Tunica, Mississippi, January 8, 1889. Thank you. Arkansas is their place of burial.

To JWFINK...

I belieive that Armstead (b. 20 Jul 1814 d. 29 Apr 1880) is a grandson of Benjamin Moses and Alcy Odom. According to what I have found, he is the son of William Ransom Kirkland (1786-1864) (William Ransom is the son of Benjamin Moses & Alcy Odom) and Endica "Dicy" Helton (1787-1860).

William Ransom is my 4th great-grandfather. I descend through his son Benjamin (1810-1863) and wife Harriet Powell (1811-1863).

If I am incorrect, I would appreciate any corrections!

Alcy Odom Kirkland is my 5th great-grandmother. If any of the following information is incorrect, I would appreciate it if anyone could correct me. I'd also appreciate any verification.

The only information I have is that she was born abt 1740 and died abt 1796. I have nothing to verify those dates. I do not have any information about her parents.

Her son, Moses, was born in 1772 in South Carolina. He married Susanne (maybe Susannah) in 1798, also in South Carolina. I believe they had 7 children: Marcyline (unknown dob/dod), Aulcey (1797-1864), Rutha (1798-1863), Benjamin H (1800-1878), Willis (1802-1906), Josiah (1805-1878), and Joseph (b. 1805 d. unknown).

My family decends through Moses' brother, William Ransom (1786-1864).

I too am trying to learn about my ancestors. I'm trying to locate the name of grgrgrgrand-father James Lemuel Kirkland's fathe. Also very interested in the Indian blood line, because some of us Kirklands are dark (Ga.) I was always told it came from Spanish blood thru the Exum side of the family. After some internet research, I have decided there is probably no Spanish-possibly Indian-S.C. Ga.Thanks, Betty-blstr1205@aol

I am looking for information on Alcey Odom Kirkland and her
birth family. I have been told that she was Creek/Catawba.
She married Benjamin Moses Kirkland in 1797 in Edgefield
County, S.C. Their children came to Henry County, Alabama.
I would like to know more about their son, Moses who died
c1848 as well.
