well, 9 yrs later, I'm going to chime in here. I have always wondered what Kirkpatrick was doing on John Cessna's farm and wondered if somehow there wasn't a family connection. Supposedly our Frenchman, Jean de Cesne, was supposed to have married an 'Irish' girl so I have often wondered if she wasn't a Kirkpatrick. Another thing; Jonathan Cessna, son of John Cessna of Shippensburg, married Mary Friend and they ended up moving into Kentucky where he is said to have died fighting the Indians near Boonesboro. I read on a blog about the Friend sisters and how they were all in Kentucky and how one of them was married to a Kirkpatrick and that they all came down the Ohio river with Mary and Jonathan Cessna. Again, placing a Kirkpatrick near a Cessna. It would make sense to me as my line of Cessna's were very intermarried in Western Kentucky. Just never know but I have always wondered about this connection. And here I am reading Cessna blogs and the Kirkpatricks show up again. It's got to be fate!!!
I'm looking for the birth place of Edwin Saunders, husband of Margaret Kirkpatrick. They settled in Goderich, Ontario where my grandfather, Jabez William Saunders, was born. They left for the U. S. A. in 1873 and settled in Bay City, MI. If you have any information on either one, please let me know. In understand that Margaret was from Dublin, Ireland. She died and was buried in Duluth, MN.

Ailidh
I have not yet come acoss any Gilchrists among descendents of William Kirkpatrick. Can you give me a date for the earliest Gilchrists you have and their county or town and perhaps we can make progress.
There were many Kirkpatricks leaving Dumfrieshire over many generations. Many, but not all, of these may connect somewhere to Closeburn or Conheath or the small towns around Dumfries. But many of the connections to the original line are so ancient or so scattered that only a clan type connection is now possible.
Have you got documents from the lawyer or what did he say was the link? I'm only 22 now but I know I am a decendant of William Kirkpatrick on my dad's side. I have just been rooting around my flat trying to find the tree but can't seem to just now but I will see if I can get a copy. Are you still interested in finding the tree? It goes right back to Empress Eugenie and beyond by another generation or two...
Best Wishes,
Ailidh

My geneology ends with Joseph Milton Kilpatrick in North Carolina in 1766, and jumps to 800AD to Donald Kirk (then to Kirkpatrick). Then son or grandson Ivone Kirkpatrick, then son Roger Kirkpatrick. I am trying to make a real connection with JM Kirkpatrick to Donald Kirkpatrick or one of his sons. Any one know or have any leads?

This is the current info I have: http://www.thegenealogytree.com/howard-cuzzins/joseph-milton...

I live in Clarkston, MI. Dearborn isn't to far from my home. If you can find any info on his burial, I could go to the cemetery and ask for information, maybe they would have the next of kin, ect.
Also, you can go to whitepages.com, type in the city and state, then type in the surname Kirkpatrick. It will give any Kirkpatricks in that area, then call them and ask for info. The obituary will have family members listed in it.

Kirkpatricks.. Ireland to Canada to US.. Back at it~ A letter~

Descendants of John and Elizabeth (Montgomery) Kirkpatrick
thumbody2130 (View posts) Posted: 21 Jul 2008 5:23PM
Classification: Query
Surnames: Kirkpatrick, Westnott

Hi to all.. I have not been on this (or any) list in some time now.. think I burned myself out when I tackled this journey when the farm became a Centennial Farm. We had planned a surprise party for my father-in-law, and I thought it would be nice to have some of the history of the family for him that day. I worked solid for about 5 mo every chance I got, and actually did find a lot, but there was of course some missing information. I decided if I was ever going to solve the questions l still have about this family. I am including some of the facts I did find. If anyone is connected to this family, or has any more info or ideas on how to find some of the missing things I would appreciate greatly hearing from you...I do have much more information on the family if you think you are connected.
Here goes... of course, as it goes some facts may be a little off..
**********************************

John KIRKPATRICK married Elizabeth MONTGOMERY on Jan 13, 1813 in Aghavea, Fermanagh, Ireland.
They immigrated to Ontario, Canada abt 1847 with 2 sons William & Robert. I find the boys in Middlesex Co, where they settled, in the 1871 Census, but have not found the parents AT all. It is said they went to Middlesex via Oxford Co.(West Williams Township History Book)

William KIRKPATRICK(our direct line)was born 3/12/1823 in Ireland. He married Jane WESTNOTT also Born Ireland(AFTER he came to Canada)...I did find her with her mother and brother in Oxford Co in the 1851 census in Norwich Twp., so I figure She and William were then married sometime between 1851 and 1855, when their first child was born. One of their children Robert C KIRKPATRICK states on his marriage registration that he was born in Blenheim.. he was born in 1860.. The family was Ch of England.

William and Jane have 7 children, all born by the time of the 1871 Census;

John Westnott KIRKPATRICK b.1855,
Elizabeth " b. 1857
William Montgomery " b. 1859
Robert Charles " b. 1860
Ann Jane " b. 1864
Richard " b. 1866
James Lethbtidge " b. 1869
I know these children were all born in Ontario, but I am not exactly sure
*Where* in Ontario.. Some I think in Middlesex Co.. Robert says Blenheim on
his marriage Registration.
The West Williams history book Says " John Kirkpatrick and his wife Elizabeth "immigrated to Middlesex County in the 1840's, via Oxford Co.. "
The Norwich and District Archives in Oxford Co did a search, and did not find any of them.

**The earliest census I have seen is 1871, where I found William and his family in West Nissouri(note on Census also says East Middlesex), and I would like to know where they were for the 1851 and 1861 Census if they immigrated in 1847(found on the 1901 census).
I have not seen the 1851 or 1861 census.
*I did find William on the 1891 and 1901 census in the same place..
*The 1901 Census says William immigrated in 1847. His wife Jane Westnott, immigrated in 1829, and she is still with her mother and a brother in the 1851 Census of Oxford CO.
*Williams death notice says "Coming to London in the early forties he engaged in business for some time afterwards settleing on a farm in West Nissouri until his removal to Sylvan."

* * I am wondering if John and Elizageth (the parents) even came over.. If so, I am now wondering if the whole family went to London first, then William moved on... I thought he farmed in West Williams.. Was it once W Nissouri??

**Williams brother Robert stayed in London, and his son became asst. City Engineer there... Robert was a Boot and Shoemaker.
Although William is our direct Ancestor, I am of course also interested in anything on his brother Robert and/or any other member of this family.

*From the 1901 Census states they were Ch of England.

* I would also be interested in the marriage registration of William and Jane as I have not been able to find it anywhere..

Thank you in advance for any info you can give..
Bonnie Kirkpatrick
in the Thumb of Michigan

I have done some limited research on both David and James Thomas a couple of years ago, and have visited their graves in Illinois. I'd be happy to hear from you if you want to discuss any further. My father is William John Kirkpatrick of Ballyhalbert - his father was William John Kirkpatrick as well.
I read with interest the original post which refers to the family of William Kirkpatrick and Mary Wilson. It says that they had 19 children of whom 8 died as babies. It says "I have obtained the list of the children." It gives the names of 5 children. I would very much like to obtain the names of all the children, or at least, those who survived. My email to jif137@hotmail.com has been returned as undeliverable. If anyone has this list of the children, I would be grateful to see it.

Hi Veekaye,
Rather than send the entire gedcom family file which is extensive and probably quite confusing I have printed an adobe file for the families of Robert K & Janet H & their children: Thomas & Ellen Dunnage, your line & Children: and details of their children, marriages and so forth. This should fill in some of your gaps. I tried to send you the file but 'Ancestry' declined, could you send your email address and I'll send the file to you it directly. I also have other info on Thomas i.e his photograph, headstone, building work, and gold mining, but I will have to find it. as I remember he was quite a lad.

In return, if possible, I would like some information about Robert Kirkpatrick & Janet Hunter and their ancestry.

regards,
Ivone

Hello Amelia, I would be very interested to see your family info. Please respond if you can. My 2x greatgrandfather Thomas who emigrated to US in 1848 from around Belfast brought his widowed mother Eliza Armstrong Kilpatrick to New York with his siblings. We feel his father was named James. The surname may have evolved from Kirk to Kil when they moved to Ireland. The family story includes the Spanish component and the Empress Eugenie

Re: David Kirkpatrick

I cannot help you with David Kirkpatrick's parents, but I can provide the circumstance and an approximate range of years of this death. According to an early Henderson family history [David's second wife's first husband was Robert Henderson], David died while "crossing the plains" to California. He died between 1850 and 1853. My reasoning is as follows:

David Kirkpatrick might have departed from his farm Plain Township, Indiana, for the California gold fields with a son and step-son in 1849/1850. The son was James Kirkpatrick and the step-son Vincent Henderson. James and Vincent appear three times in the 1850 census, once at the Indiana farm and twice in the California gold fields. The Indiana and California dates are too close for them to have been on the farm in Indiana, so I suspect that the censustaker mis-reported them as being on the farm, when they were already in the gold fields of El Dorado County. Like most miners in the early gold rush, they were moving quickly from location to location as word about gold strkes spread in the hills; they were in New Ringold in early September and then Logtown a month later.

David Kirkpatrick, who was 62 in 1850, was listed in the 1850 census only in Plain Township, Indiana. He might have died en route to California with Vincent and James, but I suspect that he died later, while accompanying other family members to the state, including his wife Elizabeth "Betsy" [Parker-Henderson] and some of this children and step children.

Exactly when the second wave of the Kirkpatrick-Henderson clan migrated to California is problematic, but David's step-daughter, Elizabeth Ann Henderson, married in California in November 1853. She was too young to have accompanied Vincent and James in 1850. She would have been only 13 or 14 years old. Instead, she very likely travelled with mother and step-father David sometime between 1850 and 1853, which would therefore be the approximate range of years that David died.

I hope this helps.

Kirkpatricks (Henry) Hamilton, Ont., Canada

Hi, Am trying to trace my husband's family lineage. Have this so far:

Herbert Austin Kikrpatrick b 1903 (Hamilton, Ont.) - d 1966 (Montreal)(my husband's father) brothers Clarence Warren and Albert, sisters Phylis and Helen

Clarence Willoughby b 1878 (Hamilton) - d.?
married 1901 Annie Warren b 1879
reporter and later editor (I think) of Hamilton Spectator newspaper

William b. 1849 (Ireland) d. 1936 (Hamilton)
married Janet Mcilroy (b. 1849 d 1929) in 1878

1871 Census for Hamilton shows:

William aged 21
Henry, father/head age 60 (b. Ire.) -my husband's gg-grandfather
Ann (Magee/mother) age 49 (b. Ire.)
Joseph, 24 (b. Ire.)
Ellen, 23 (b. Ire.)
John, 19 (b.Ire.)
Margaret, 17 (b. Ire.)
Andrew, 15 (b.Ire.)
Susan, 9 (b. Ire.)
Robert, 3 (born in Ontario)
Mary (grandmother?), 94 (b. Ire.)- my husband's ggg=grandmother

I think there may have been one other daughter as well, a Mary Anne, (marriage rec. shows her age 20 when she married John Ingram in 1867 in Hamilton)and maybe even a Jane (born around 1859 ..shown at age 32 on 1891 census). So...according to this the family emigrated to Canada somewhere between 1862 and 1868.

I have found a record on 1851 Census for County Antrim for a Mary Kirkpatrick, age 75 and a Henry, age 75. I'm wondering if this is the same Mary who is on Hamilton census in 1871 at age 94 and if this Henry might be my father's ggg-grandfather.
After this point I completely hit a dead end
. I can't find any other records of the family at all. Any information about anybody mentioned above or any advice on where to look next would be greatly appreciated.

-Sandy Wing-Kirkpatrick

That sounds like James K except for the birth date. His birthday was 10/11/1889 which I got from a family member. I suppose either birthdate could be wrong.

Thanks for the grave link, the d0b is two years out, is it possible that this is David Jnr. He died in 1953, would they be making mistakes with the year of birth at that time. I suppose it is possible he gave his birth date as 1891 instead of 1888 or they got it wrong at some time and he just left it? I don't know why he would but ??

My dad has written that David K Jnr before he had a barber's shop drove street cars, maybe he and Hugh both did or dad was mixed up.

That info sounds like the right Hugh, his father was John (from Ellis Island info) but I haven't made a connection yet to my Ballyhalbert Bell family - my g/g/grandmother Mary Bell (m. James Ross) and her father Thomas Bell.
Mary & James were Sarah's parents.

Thanks Kathleen

Hi Robyn,
I am a descendant of this same Kirkpatrick family through John Hunter Kirkpatrick's older brother Thomas. I have been trying to resolve this relationship for some years now, but have still not found the connection between their father Robert (1778-1832) and Sir James (4th Baronet.)
I have recently been mapping the family in Australia, and have pretty much completed it up to the mid 1900's, but of course after that, without personal knowledge I can go no further.
It is a work in progress.
