I received this message on another post which might provide some information to you. This person's grandfather is a brother to my grandfather. Sorry I am so late in replying.
---------------
Hellow, my name is Linda Knutsen Ryan. I read that you are looking for information on Elizabeth Lawton (Pickens) Knutsen. My grandfather was Thomas C. Knutsen, his wife was Elizabeth Lawton Pickens. She always went by "Lottie", but her given name was Elizabeth. She was born in Scotch Ridge, Ohio on May 26, 1880. She died quite young from cancer at the age of 50 in 1930. Thomas and Lottie had 5 sons, Athelbert Hugh, Thomas Barkley, Howard Lee, Clyde Edwin and Dale Dwight. My father was Clyde. He passed in 2002.

I just returned from Scotch Ridge, where I took a photo of Thomas and Lottie's grave. Please let me know if this helps. This is my husband Jim's ancestery address, but you can contact me here.
----------------------
I can be contacted at bknutsen@plmw.com
Byron Knutsen
Thanks so much for the information you sent about the wife of your grandfather Thomas C. Knutsen. My grandfather Andrew Knutsen is his brother.

Do you have any information about their ancestors? Please send me an email at berrymom55@yahoo.com as soon as possible and I'll tell you all about it.

And yes, Aura Pitts is my Grandma. I'm definitely still interested in the name change.
Thanks!
Erin

Hello Erin,

I'm familiar with the Mekinock area and Blooming Twp.
My ancestors homestead there along with several of their relatives. I had checked your other postings and saw the name Bekkedal. I have a photo of Mable Bekkedal and also a article about lewis Bekkedal. You listed the name Dock, I know their were several with the name Dokken in that area. There was a Nils Dokken who was a teacher in Blooming township.
you can contact me at john_@q.com

Knutsen, North Dakota

I'm researching an Ole Knutsen, born in Norway in 1856, came to the U.S. around 1860, lived in Minnesota until 1878-1879-ish, then moved to Blooming Township, Grand Forks County, ND. Children are Knute (born in Minnesota), Carl, Peter, Maria, Maline, Leonard, Enoch, Elizabeth, and perhaps an Eliza who died young. Wife is named Caroline. I was able to find the family with the last name of Knutsen in the 1880 census, but then in the 1885 and 1900 census, they have the last name of Dock. All the first names, birth dates, and birth places match up, so I am sure they are the same family. Why would the name have been changed? They had already achieved citizenship. Also, does anyone have information on the family from the 1880's and 1890's? Any information or photographs of tombstones, especially from Mekinock, North Dakota?
Thanks, Erin

Knud Knudsen

Hi! I am looking for information regarding my grandfather Knud Knudsen born on 27th of July 1870 in Stavanger, Norway of parents Knud Knudsen and Marie Wilhelmsdatter. He married Karen Olava Knudsen on the 19th Feb 1892, Stavanger.

He was a sailor and worked in the states, mainly from Philadelphia, PA from app. 1890-1898. He supposedly sailed on private yachts.

In the Philadelphia Passenger lists from 1895 he gives an address: 14, Christian Street. In the Passenger lists he states a Vick Simon as a friend, residing at the same address, Elmar Hole/Hall also states the same address. The building was owned by a Hautree Brisco and later transferred to a William Briscoe by will.

I am interested in finding more about this building and also, I am very interested in finding out who Knud Knudsen’s employer in the States might have been. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I would also be interested in relevant archives and sailing clubs in the period 1890-1900. Assistance as to where I could search would be very appreciated and I could of course search Norwegian archives as a favour in return.

Kjell
Exactly as shown in the 1900 US census - John immigrated in 1880! His mother immigrated in 1878 - see this entry from the Trondheim emigration register -
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbas...

Was John married before?

Take a close look at records from the Støren area of Sør-Trøndelag, Norway.
You'd expect John to be living on a Norwegian farm by the name of Aune (or similar), be listed as born about 1859, mother's name at least start with 'Ber...' and father probably named Anders (the typical name which was called Andrew in the US later).
So see this possible - http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&...

The closest port of departure would be Trondheim, Norway -
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbas...

One possible port of arrival would be through the Canadian port of Quebec.

In 1900 census, his mother, Bertha b. Jan 1823 is living in John's household.

I would also like to learn more about the parentage of his wife, Carrie J. Knutson.

Thanks,
Kay
