I believe the John Krieg you're referencing here is Johaness, 1839-24 Sept. 1913. His wife is Elizabeth Hertig, and they had 7 children... Gottfried, Adolph, Charles, Fred, Elise, Alfred and Fritz... They settled near Elyria, Amherts and Lorain.

hi. i'm new to all of this. my name is mitchell kriegman grandson of peter kriegman if that is the same peter kriegman you're speaking of. i grew up being told there were no other kriegmans....of course that isn't true. a woman called me many years ago and said that she promised her grandfather (i think) before he died to find his brother peter kriegman...it was the first time i knew there were more kriegmans. do you have any information related to my part of the family tree? i think there were three brothers and they had a business together at one point. mitchell chsmac@gmail.com

I think I have the correct Krieg line. I'm looking for Hazen Krieg who would have been born around 1930's and married Norma (Toni) Tansley in the late 1950's and they later divorced in the early 1960's. They lived in the metro Detroit area. They had two son's. I'm wondering what happened to Hazen?

Leonard is the brother of our grandfather Henry. Yes this information matches. My sister posted this inquiry....biggest problem we are having is finding information on the Kriegs. and it seems they all were good at changing the spelling of the last name. Would love to hear from you....plainandsimple_17325@yahoo.com my name is Cecilia. Not sure if Anne is still doing her research. Would be nice to exchange data even if it is minisule...I do have the obits for John, Walter, and Leonard plus the two sisters Marie and Catherine.

Leonard Krieg was my paternal grandfather. He married a woman named Edna - had a son Leonard Otto (who spelled it Kreig) and a daughter Edna Mae(she later married a Ronald Strausburger and had a son Ronald Jr). Leonard Otto married my mother Ann Marie Bohr Dec 12, 1969. I was born in 1970. Leonard Otto passed away Dec 10th 1991 - his father passed away around 1995 from what I was told and Edna passed way around that same time. Leonard Otto also has a son named Tim. He contacted me a while back but I have losted his info. I would be interested if this matches up to the info you had. I know it has been many years since this was posted but I am just starting to look into the ancestry. prinsessbrat@yahoo.com
I am working on the family of Josef or Joseph Krieg & his wife Anna Maria Clara Doller? not sure if all my info is correct, but I'm working on it when I can...
We believe Josef was born in Ergen, Austria in 1827...
As for his death - we have conflicting stories: 1)of him dying in a boating accident in PA 2)dying from pneumonia after falling in a river while working as a lumberjack in PA 3)have been told there is documentation that he died & is actually buried at St. Nazianz, WI...

Am searching for info on a REGINA Krieg b: 1842....would like confirmation of who her parents were....no one seems to know anything...

Have NOT run across any Henry Krieg's..could he possibly have been at St. Nazianz too....near Manitowoc, WI...
Could your August possibly be a brother of Josef....
We also have conflicting info on him coming to America thru Baltimore possibly 1852 & New York in 1867....I have seen the passenger list of the New York arrival...but others in the family say they came thru Baltimore..very confusing...
oR did they come thru Ney York & then to Baltimore.
Almost makes me think there were TWO different Josef's too..
with the same kids & wife...
but I think maybe they came, left & came again...I've seen it before...I'll just have to keep digging...

I was just told that Josef was a Professor of Political Science in Austria.
Hope you have made some progress...

He was my grandmother's cousin and she named one of her sons after him. Or so the story goes. Your record shows him dying in Florida. Do you know for sure?
Thanks. Deb

Dear Lillian,
I don't believe that I ever received a reply from my last posting dated 3/11/07.
Are you still interested in Oscar Krieg, Jr. from Oakland, CA?
I do recall a very fashionalbe men's store named Krieg's that was located on East 14th Street in Oakland, CA when I was a child (about 1950 - 1960). I never dreamed that sometime in the future I would be connected by marriage to the same last name.
I later found out that my father-in-law Kenneth K. Krieg had been born in Washington state in 1909. I found that Oscar, Grace, Kenneth and Carl had relocated back to Oakland, CA when the 1930 census wast taken.
According to my mother-in-law informed me that Oscar was a very kind person and that she loved him very much. He died in Oakland, CA in 1945.
Have you found any new information?
I hope to hear from you sometime in the near future.
Donna Krieg dmk47@hotmail.com

Your family is NOT the only Krieg's that were not great with original names...
I also have a Ggradnfather named Josef (Joseph) who we believe his father was also a Josef. My Ggrandfather Josef had a son names Michael Josef & another named Frank Josef...etc...and I have run across many other families with Josef/Joseph's in them, with father's & son's named Josef/Joseph.....It sure makes it harder for us....
It is so easy to mix up one Joseph with another...
Hope you have made some positive connections...!!!

I've followed this post with some interest. I too have Krieg ancestors. Leopold Krieg and his wife, Augusta died in 1882 and 1888 respectively and are buried in St. Michael's Cemetery churchyard in Remus, Michigan. I suspect that they came over in the mid 1850's with at least 4 children, Henry Krieg, Anna Ferdinanda Krieg (Wernette), Sophia Krieg (Minkel), and Genevive Krieg. Ferdinanda Krieg's husband, Joseph Wernette, grew up in a German speaking community in St. Clements, Ontario and were married at Rochester, New York in September 1864, and Sophia's husband, George Minkel, was also from Ontario so I wouldn't be at all surprised if my Krieg line also came through Ontario. To date though, I've not been able to find Leopold and Augusta on any census record - although it would appear at least some of their children were in Rochester, NY in the early 1860's and then followed Sophia and her husband to central Michigan. I have no information on what happened to Genevive Krieg (I assume she married?) but Henry, Sophia Minkel, Ferdinanda and their parents are all buried in the same cemetery in REmus, Michigan. Have you ever run across these names?

Thanks for any help.
Your husband's great grandfather is clearly my great-great grandfather. A number of years ago my wife and I set up a website with some of the information I had uncovered. It is quite outdated now but the basic information is still valid. You can find it at 2ninnies.com. This gives the lineage for Henry and Frederick (the tailor). The latter, by the way, ended up in Lawrenceburg, Indiana with his family. He died there and his three sons continued in the tailor business.

I too have relatives from Sachsen-Altenburg who settled in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. I have traced my family back to a village in Thuringia called Lobschutz (renamed Kahla). My great-great grandfather, Georg Heinrich Friedrich Krieg (always called himself Henry) came to Canada in about 1855 and settled in Berlin, Ontario. Later, he moved to the Hespeler area. He was a stone mason by trade.

Hi,
We pronounce it as you do. How ever the Marquette MI Krieg family pronounce it as if it were Craig. You are correct in the German lanugage the second vowel is alway long. The name is most commonly remembered in the WWII fraze "Blitz Krieg" which means fast war.

I have not checked this board in awhile so this reply is very long over due. I have not connected with any Krieg's in Wisconsin. If I do I will post it. There were many Germans in the MIlwaukee at the time you mentioned. Have you searched all of the census for them. That is the first place to start. If still living after 1900 the later census can give more information as to orgin.
