My grand mother was Catherine Krum born in Pa. and lived in Illinois. Married to Franklin Tracey and then James Teeling. Wondered if this was her family.

Krum, Charles K. : Railroad Official

Krum, Charles: I am searching for ancestors of Charles Krum, with the possible middle initial K. or L. Charles was considered a railroad official of maybe the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad or Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad or some other railroad.
I am researching Charles Krum in an attempt to find the man for whom the town of Krum, Texas was named. Krum was founded as a depot town of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe railroad in 1886. So this Charles Krum would probably have been born around 1850 to 1860. I am hoping some Krum ancestor will either have some documents or family history to record this event.

I am researching KRUHM ancestry for a neighbor. Volkmar Kruhm and a son Adolph Kruhm born 24 April 1884 in Nordhausen, Germany; Adolph may have died around 1940. I think he was a master gardener and book writer. I don't know where he died. They emigrated into NYS via Montreal. They may have gone into the Stowe, Vermont area as they knew Maria von Trapp during the immigation to the states. Maria formed the TRAPP Family Singers, which became world famous.

Do you think the KRUHM surname was americanized to Krum/Crum; it wasn't in the Kruhm people I mention?

A descendant Kenneth A. Kruhm died in Corrales, NM in 1994.

Hello family,

I am Eli Goldsmith, named after Eli Crum of Liberty TWP, MI, whose father was John Kain Crum (Krom) of Shawangunk, Ulster Co. NY. I received a posting from Pam Smith yesterday (9/01/09) who returned my attn back to this site.

In response to the person who wrote concerning the vagaries of spellings of last names, you are so correct. The name Beach could have been Beech, Beitch, etc., or perhaps simply the placename Beach(one living at the beach) One can leave no stone unturned when researching family.

Will write again soon.

Regards,
Eli

My great grandmother was Augusta Krum born 1868 in Germany. Her family came to the USA in 1884. She married Henry(Hervey)Spangenberg in 1885. They had 4 children Carl, Hattie(my grandmother) Ellen, Walter. The 1910 census has them living in Traverse City, MI. This is where my grandparents met. I have no more information on Augusta or Henry after 1910. I would appreciate any help. My one aunt who is now gone once told me there was a Krum family connection in the Kalamazoo, Mi area.

Thanks for any help

He is in Wics. in 1860, 70 and 1880 census. Rebecca is not in the last one. I have checked all available records I can find. About 3 of their children are buried in the Coutant cemetary, Rosendale. I most details of his living children should anyone be interested.

Hi, Ron

I have a few Kroms on my family tree. (This is a statement that will inspire laughter if you're not talking genealogy with someone.)

Well, anyway, are you looking for the Crom/Krum/Krom family that originated in Ulster Co., NY?

I have a copy of "The Descendants of Gysbert Crom," from the Ulster County Genealogical Society, and I could do a lookup for you.

Where are you stuck on the Crom surname?

Gretchen Maresco

Jeremiah Krum in Schoharie, NY

Please help me with the names of Jeremiah Krum's wife and children. We think my husband's great-grandmother's name was Delia Laura Krum (born 1830 in NY) before she married Henry William Collins (also born in NY), but I can find no proof. Think she had a brother named Franklin. I do find a Franklin in the 1850>NY>Schoharie>Broome census, age 22, living with parents (I suppose) Jeremiah and Cynthia Crum. Delia and Henry W. Collins are already married in 1850 and living with a Davenport family in Elmira, NY. Many thanks for any clues,
Peggy Hendricks
pphendricks@yahoo.com

I have been doing extensive research on the Krum genealogy and find that, at least up until about 1850, Krom, Krum, Crom, and Crum are used quite interchangeably. Not only did census takers and ministers use "flexible" spelling, but folks who weren't great spellers even spelled their own names different ways. Then you add in the vagaries of what transcribers come up with and it's anyone's guess!

We may have some relatives in common, as I have a Beach Byron Krum in my line. Beach seems a rather unusual name; haven't figured out its origin yet.

Danny,
My paternal great great aunt, Salinda Krum, married Lewis Moyer. According to family records, Salinda (listed as "Belinda" when she was baptized) was born 8 Mar 1823 and died 20 Dec 1883. Salinda and Lewis's children, according to the 1870 US Census, were David (age 22), Dennis (age 21), Robert (age 18), Catharine (age 17), Francis (age 15), Lydia (age 12), and William (age 10). The Census says they lived in Towamensing Township, Carbon Co., PA, and their post office was Stemlerville. Does any of this 'ring a bell'?
I'm related to Salinda thru her older brother Daniel, who was born in 1820 and married Hannah Dreisbach. Both were the children of Christian and Catharine Frederick Krum who apparently also lived in Stemlersville.

2 Daniel Krums in Carbon County, PA

"My" Daniel Krum, farmer, married Hannah Dreisbach and is listed in the 1860 Census as "Danl Krim" - also listed are Chas age 11; John, age 9; Lewis, age 7 (my great-grandfather); Amanda, age 5; and Ellen, age 0. The "other" Daniel Krum was also born sometime in 1820, married Lovina Moyer, who died before the 1850 Census, where he is listed as "Daniel Krom", blacksmith, and has no wife here but Amanda, age 10; Francis, age 6; Dennis, age 1; and a housekeeper, named Caroline Hunsecker (?). By the 1860 census, where the "other" Daniel is listed as "Danl Krum", he has a wife named Caroline; Elizabeth, age 10; Emma, age 2; Franklin, age 22; and Francis, age 16, in his household. Since Francis seems to be 10 years older and Caroline is now his wife, I suggest that Lovina Moyer was the mother of the first batch. Wish they'd used middle names in those days!
