Gunner Lace

Looking for any information on Gunner Lace born Monmouthshire 1834, parents Thomas and Ann Lace both born around 1809, Thomas on Isle of Man, Ann in monmouthshire. Gunner appears on the 1841 Wales census and then I can find no trace of him after either emigrating, or deceased, can anyone help??

Hello Helen, I have just found your post and I hope you are still looking for info on Charles Henry Lace.
My great grandfather was Charles henry Lace Jr.b. 1859 IOM, d. 1929 NSW Aust. He married a Margaret Cassidy with a very mysterious past - still working on that.
His father was Charles Lace B. 1824 IOM he married Christian Corlett b. 1829 d. 1873.
His father was John Lace b. 1788 IOM he married Elinor Clucas b. Feb 9 1785

By sheer chance I came across your request re Eunice Lace.
My great grandmother married a Joseph Edwards of Old Colwyn and I am told she came from the Isle of Man and her nee name was possibly Lace.
My grandmother, Mary Williams, married Joseph's son, also named Joseph, and they lived in Old Colwyn until he was killed in 1938 in an accident. Nain then lived with her two daughters, Cora and Eunice (see another name connection. I also remember an uncle Castle, who had a senior position with either Fox or Paramount Pictures in the UK.

Hi, my Mother and her sister went to the IOM looking for family members and found some. Last name "LACE"
All I have found out from them is my great grandmothers name is Edith (Gidley) Lace. But I don't know my great grandfathers 1st name. What his trade was, or other brothers or sister he had. When they came to America, why they came to America, where there resting place is, etc....

Eunice Lace b.1855 Ramsey, Isle of Man (died in North Wales)

I'm trying to locate the parents of Eunice. She is mentioned in the 1861 census living with her aunt (Catherine Cannell nee Lace) Catherine's mother (Ann Lace - nee Castle) and other family members.
If Catherine is her aunt then we can presume Eunice is the offspring of one of the siblings, however the siblings:
Elizabeth - would have been 40 at the birth (unlikely tho' not impossible).
Henry - was a widower living in England in 1851
John - was married with children of his own (one born same year as Eunice).

Eunice eventually ended up in Colwyn, North Wales married to a Joseph Edwards.

I am missing details for her in the 1871 census too (all others found), but what I'd really like to know is who were her parents.

Can't trace her wedding so no certificate to give me a clue!! Have ruled out the wedding in West Derby as this was a Catherine Eunice Lace and have traced her back through to when she was with her parents - all from Liverpool.

Does anyone have any clues or know where I could find records for the Isle of Man. No BMD records on Ancestry.

My great-great-grandmother was born Augusta Lace in ~1862. She lived in Phila, PA, and married Charles Hettrick in a Lutheran Ceremony on 5/16/1880 in Phila. That's all I know so far about her. I'd appreciate any help, and if that's part of your line I can help you out with MANY of her descendants!

William Lace is listed in the 1851 Philadelphia City directory as a blacksmith living at 5 Southampton Ct.

I'm confused from your message - was it the Sr William (married Susan) or the Jr that moved to NY (with Sarah)? Did anybody in this family stay in Phila?

Don't have info on his origins on Isle of Man either, still trying to find that, but have some info on him from Seneca Falls, NY and military info on William, Jr. if you are interested in any of that. William and Susan Lace are my great-great grandparents; he is from Isle of Man, she is from Philadelphia. Have some information on them. Would like some info on Susan, however, as I don't have maiden name or much of anything on her. Have military info on William Jr. also.

I have a William Lace born in 1846 in England. HIs wife, Nancy, was born in PA. They were residing in Seneca Co. Ohio in 1880 and had John, Israel, Minnie, Frances, and some other children. Does any of that ring a bell?

This particular Lace family are also relatives of mine and I found this while searching in Prussia Lineage looking to find when the first John Greggor (mid 1700's) was born as I was told in Peel in 2001 that he jumped a grain ship from Poland, landed in Peel where he married. This started our family in The Isle of Man. Any information or advice would be appreciated Regards Joan Wellen

Kay, Albert Lace was my grandmother brother, Mona Olive Lace. He lived with my aunt Fleeta Sellers until he died. Don't know what year he died. He is buried at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, In. I hope this will help. Larry Forsythe

I still cannot get farther back than Henry Lace born in PA in 1806, but I am looking into the spelling Leisse in PA, also, there were Laces there. Looking for any information on William Lace, born abt 1819 on the Isle of Mann and died 1899 Waterloo NY. He was married to Susan (last name unknown 1822-1893)of Pennsylvania, and they lived in Philadelphia between at least 1844 and 1850 where they had 3 children: William (b 1844), Benjamin (b. 1847), Mary Alice (b. 1850). They subsequently had at least 2 more children: John (b.1852) and Edward (b.1855). William and Sarah moved to Seneca Falls, Seneca cty, NY where he was a blacksmith. I have been unable to link William to his Isle of Mann ancestors. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone?

FYI - with regard to the spelling - I have also heard that Lace may be derived from Glass and a few years ago I discovered a few that came through the Bahamas (I believe it was the late 1700's)! I didn't pursue it, because it seemed like a wild goose chase with what little info I already had. I will keep in touch, thanks, Cheryl

Surprised you mention Wales as the lineage. I thought all Laces were from the Isle of Man, and migrated to both Ireland and Wales, many around Liverpool.

Hope someone can help me. My grandfather was a Lace (George Lace). He also came from the Isle of Man about l912. We know he was a linin buyer. What I would like to know is HOW HE GOT to the U.S.A, Cant find any papers or ship papers.

I could only hope for a connection....however, the only concrete information I have is that of my grandfather, Arthur Edwin Lace, born 5/25/1895 in Buffalo, NY, lived in Galion Ohio and died in Dayton Ohio 12/60. Supposedly had a son "Bob" in Buffalo before marrying my grandmother in Galion. Arthur's father's name was Edward Lace born in 1855, and I don't know where. Supposed lineage is Welsh. Does the Arthur Lace ring a bell? I have no other info - but I love the name Olive and the fact she was in Ohio! May be some connection...somewhere?!...thanks for your response, though!

Edward is my great-great-grandfather, according to my research. Your information on the Lace's in NY is quite impressive in my search for missing Lace's. I doubt that I have anything that would help you, but do you know more about Edward? He should of been married to Ada A. Cox and I know that they had at least one son, my deceased (Dayton OH 1960)grandfather Arthur Edwin Lace, Sr. born 1895 in Buffalo NY.
