Hello,
I'm researching Wexford Ireland Lacey's (Lacy) that settled in Baltimore in the 1850's. The majority of the family members seem to have died without children.

I have been unable to discover which Parish they are from in county Wexford, which blocks me research for the moment, since b. m. d. records in Ireland before 1864 were kept by the Roman Catholic parishes.

1793 marriage records for Elizabeth Lacey to Thomas Probert & Sarah Lacey to Joseph Parsons

A cousin of mine who uses findmypast.co.uk found a parish record for the marriage of a pair of mutual ancestors, Thomas PROBERT and Elizabeth LACEY at Saint James Picadilly, Westminster, London on July 8, 1793. We know that this is the correct pair because we know a fair amount about the couple, including where and when their children were born, much about their movements, their descendants, and some of Thomas's cousins. The register confirms that both were literate enough to sign their names. We know from a family history that their grandson wrote, that Elizabeth was from LACEY GREEN. I have their family bible. The two are buried at Hughenden.

On the same image of the page of the parish register, and on the same date, is the marriage of Sarah LACEY to Joseph PARSONS. Joseph is able to sign his name, but Sarah is not.
It could be a coincidence that two women with the surname Lacy were each married by banns in the same home parish. It is also possible that they are related to each other. If anyone has any clues as to these LACEYs I'd appreciate hearing. My Probert tree, with Elizabeth LACEY, and with much of what I know, is at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=bigbible&...

I have a photo of a William Lacey ~ the address on the back of it is Fort Wayne Indiana.... he looks like he could be my fathers brother...he has a WW1 uniform on. I know his parents and sisters name....and have a contact in Oregon that has his sisters relatives. I am really hoping this might be some kind of connection. Our family was in NC in the 1700's and then migrated to Tennessee. Cheryl

Bob, greetings, i was delighted to find your post today. Six months of research of Nolan Patrick Lacey b.1843 Ireland led me to a Martin&Mary Lacey/Lacy/Lecey crossing with children Walter, Mag, Pat, Mary, 1850, Riverdale out of Liverpool. Martin bought land, farming i think, in Miami County about 1853. James, Ellen, Martin were born. Online searches said they emigrated from County Wexford, Ireland. Family group information for Martin was the only data that fit memories of Patrick's Descendants, my cousins. Their Patrick Lacey was a civil war soldier who enlisted at St Louis 1864 and re-enlisted at Cincinnati 1867. He married 1869 in Utah Nancy Anna Hershey, settled in Hall County, Nebraska, and had 11 children. But, no descendant spoke of a connection to Ohio, only St. Louis, MO. I wonder if you have local Piqua Information that refers to Patrick who seems to have disappeared from Ohio and has not been disproved as ancestor and 2nd greatgrandfather. I have more to share. By for now. chc_kac

Tuckers/Laceys from Russell Co to Jefferson Co, Alabama

Sometime before 1900, Nathan Howard Tucker and wife Ella Stark Ford Tucker moved from Seale, Russell County, AL, to Pratt City, Jefferson county, Alabama. Already, in the 1890s, Nathan's sister, Martha Lucinda Tucker and husband Lorenzo Monroe Lacey, had moved to Pratt City, and Lacey ran a grocery, etc. Their children were merchants and civic leaders in Pratt City, Ensley, etc. More of this info is written up by Peggy Lacey Holmes and published in The Heritage of Jefferson County Alabama.

I am searching for descendants of Nathan & Ella Tucker and Martha & Lorenzo Lacey who may know more about their TUCKER line. Nathan and Martha were children (twins) of Joseph Tarpley Tucker and Janet Cooksey Tucker in Russell County AL.

Is anyone aware of other relatives of J. T. Tucker's in Russell or Jefferson Co or elsewhere? Gilly Ann Tucker married Duncan Cooksey (brother of JT's wife Janet Cooksey)in Muscogee Co., GA. Was Gilly Ann a sister of Joseph Tarpley Tucker's?

Other siblings of Nathan and Martha were James Madison Hill (aka Hill) Tucker, MacPherson (Mac) Tucker, George Washington Tucker (b.1856) and my line, William Archibald Lester (W.A.L.) Tucker. There may be another sibling, a female?

There is a Miss Gertrude Tucker and a Gertrude H. Tucker who are living with Nathan & Ella Tucker in Pratt City in 1902 and 1905 city directories. Who were the Gertrude Tuckers?

Hill Tucker moved to Atlanta. MacPherson Tucker moved to Jacksonville, Florida. W.A.L. Tucker stayed in Seale, his son, William Henry Tucker, moved to Columbus, GA.

One researcher has told me that Joseph (J. T.) Tucker's parents were James Tucker and Jennifer Tarpley, but I am searching for other sources on the Tucker/Tarpley line.

Thanks for any sources, confirmation, or clues!

I don't have info on your Thomas or John, but I have to respond because so few people are interested in Lacy/Lacey people from NFLD. My gt. grandmother was Elizabeth Rachel Lacy from Blackhead NFLD, b. 1838. Her father was Philip and her mother was Mary Durdle. Until recently, it was believed her father was John Lacy who had married Esther Reynolds. I thought this similarity to your John and Anastasia interesting. Family lore says my Lacy's came from Ireland. This still needs to be proved. Be aware that Newfie's often use their middle name for everyday purposes. In my case, looking for Rachel, the name she used, was fruitless because legal docs were all listed as Elizabeth. She married John Charles Pye in Battle Harbor Labrador and my grandfather was born at Cape St. Charles. Another point, during the Am. Rev. War the Brits conscripted Americans to serve on their ships. At war's end, they dropped them off at British ports, as was the case for one of my Pye ancestors, which is how he got to NFLD.

That's a hard situation.

I would recommend you get a *real* DNA test at some point, to document your DNA for your children and grandchildren. In the meantime *if you're male* you might consider a less expensive Y-DNA genealogy-site version, there are several to choose from.

The tests on Ancestry.com will show matches in the line that follows the name. (It's just a cheek swab you mail in.)
My father took the 46-marker test, but so far we don't have an exact match to anyone else. Don't bother with the smaller tests, they're really useless.
I have many "close" matches with smaller tests, and can't find a single family tree connection with them.

If someone with the same male-line takes the test in the future, you'd be notified by email.

Lacey in name only

So Im a strange situation, as so much I know I am a Lacey in name alone. And well Im trying to track down any information to confirm or deny so I can trace my heritage.

There is a bit of a story to it that has probablly happened many times affecting different families. So here it is,

My parents seperated when I was young and so I was raised without my father but held his name, Lacey. I know he comes from the Indiana/ Kentucky Lacey's. So, whats the problem? Well, Ive been told that his real name isnt Lacey. Yep apparently his mother had married a man with the name of Lacey had some kids and then they seperated. She then met another man (remarried?) and had a son who held the name of his birth father and not the siblings. Well, that second marriage fell through and the woman got back with her first husband. So though on paper his name was of the second husband, he grew up using the name of Lacey. Use a name long enough and its you.

A nice little tale that leaves alot of holes for me. My mother doesnt care to talk about it, understandable. But the situation is hard to sort through the web. Ive been told that the second husbands name may have been Harris, but I have niether parents name to go off of. Has anyone heard of this before?

I am not trying to reconnect with my birth father. I just want to get the story straight so if I ever have kids I can pass it on.

Figured the description of the situation would be enough however if names are needed please send a message. Thank you.

I edited my post to add another Sanford I found in a different part of the state. If I find anything else I'll let you know.

If your cousins do the DNA test, go for the biggest one, the others are really only good for elimination. I googled a coupon for 20% off at the time, for ancestry members.

Good luck in your search, I hope we find a connection.
:)

I'm also interested in the Laceys from Livingston County, NY, and all Lacys/Laceys who moved to NY from CT.

I have a Dilluzon Sanford Lacy...

Dilluzon Sanford Lacy
Birth 3 Jul 1817 in Avon, Livingston, New York, United States
Death in Kent, King, Washington, United States (he's in census there).

There's a plain "Sanford Lacey" in Army Enlistment papers who states his birthplace as Royalton, New York, so it's possible they aren't the same person. (Royalton is in Niagara Co., the NW part of NY state.)

Dilluzon Sanford's father was Sanford Lacy (if correct), comes from ancestry trees (I have Lacy spelled without the E) born 1778 in Easton, Fairfield Co., CT, died June 10, 1847 in Gennesseo, Livingston Co., NY.

His mother was Anna R. (unknown). He had siblings Edward and Hannah, named for his paternal grandparents.

Sanford's parents were Samuel Lacy b. Easton, Fairfield, CT 1743, d. 8 Jan 1820 in Perry City, Wyoming Co., NY. and Huldah Sanford of Fairfield, Fairfield Co. CT.

Samuel Lacy was the son of Edward Lacy and Hannah Summers of Fairfield. I believe my family may be descended from this line, but can't find the birth records to connect.

Regarding Livingston families:
There was a Summers Lacy who lived in Livingston County, NY, he was born in Fairfield, Fairfield Co., CT. The spelling of Lacy/Lacey goes back and forth, so you must check both and other variations.

My ggg grandfather was Daniel Summers (or Somers) Lacy, born 1815, CT.
Do you have any living males in your family who could take the Y-DNA test? Ours is in the database at ancestry, waiting for a match.

Thank you so much for posting the info regarding Dilluzon Sanford Lacy b:3 Jul 1817 in Avon, Livingston, New York, United States Death in Kent, King, Washington, United States (copied from trees, could be inaccurate?)

My Sanford was born abt 1820 in New York- (Possibly Livingston County -Avon) so that could be him. He died in 1855 possibly in Michigan. My Gr Grandfather was born
in Michigan in 1853 and we thought maybe he died there. I will try and investigate the Washington death. Our Sanford was married to Lousia Parmelee. It seems possible that they are related to Dilluzon as Our Sanford named his two eldest children Edward D. and Anna M. I have not found any info regarding our Edward's middle name.

I do have male cousins and will give them the info and ask if one of them would be interested in taking the Y-DNA test.
Again Thank you so much for replying and the info.
All the best,
Grace
Re: General John Lacey and son Thomas R Lacey

The hints are many times inaccurate; some refer to a similar person with same name, that was copied to a tree by someone else not paying attention. Until you find a reliable source document that gives that as his birthplace, I wouldn't attach too much importance to it, although of course you should check it out. I hope someone here has a solid explanation.

But to illustrate the inaccuracies in the hints, I have someone in my tree named Rebecca Adams; the daughter of John Adams and Abigail Smith.
Every other tree at Ancestry claims this is the daughter of President John Adams. She is not, they all have the same names but were born a hundred+ years earlier. But the error keeps being copied over and over, I guess nobody wants to give up a president. ;)

I wonder if you have any living male Laceys that would take the Y-DNA test for ancestry's database?

General John Lacey and son Thomas R Lacey

Hi,

My name is Shelley Winsor and I came across Thomas R Lacey and General John Lacey in the search for my family roots. According to hints I received Thomas R Lacey is my 4th great grandfather and General John Lacey is my 5th great grandfather.

What I find puzzling is that the hints indicated that Thomas R Lacey was born in Exploits Island, Newfoundland while all his siblings were born in the states. Both his parents were born in the states and General John Lacey is a hero from the American Revolutionary War. Why was General John Lacey in Exploits Island, Newfoundland long enough to have a baby? Thomas's mother and John's wife, Anastasia Reynolds had children after Thomas was born and the hints show them all as being born in the states. Were John and Anastasia in Newfoundland for military purposes? At the time Newfoundland was a dominion or territory of Britain.

The hints also indicate that Thomas R Lacey's children were born and died in Exploits Newfoundland. So was Thomas born there, but grew up in the states and moved back to Exploits with his wife and then have his children only to move back to the states? One record shows his death in New Jersey.

Does anyone have Thomas R Lacey in their family tree and show him as being born in Exploits Island, Newfoundland?
Can anyone verify that he was born there and possibly have a story about it?
LACEY Richard 1933-2011 Richland County, Ohio

Richard Lacey

MANSFIELD: "Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution experience life's deepest joy." Richard Lacey leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, dedication, and love. He continuously opened his house, a haven of security and stability, to extended family, friends and neighbors in need.
Described as having the "biggest heart," Richard loved being a family man.
His heart now at rest, Richard Joseph Lacey passed away Monday morning, May 16, 2011 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 77.

Born Richard Joseph Lacey on July 23, 1933 the son of George and Golda (Perman) Lacey,

Richard was raised in the Crestline, Ohio area.
A true American patriot, he left school early to join the Army. If you ask him, he wouldn't have changed his decisions for anything.... because that's how he met the love of his life and future bride. Richard enlisted in 1963 and while stationed in Portugal, Maria Silva, a civilian working on base caught his eye and on October 2, 1965 the two were married.
Richard was honorably discharged and the two resided in the Mansfield, Ohio area where they raised their family of four children.

Richard worked for Conrail as a tower operator. For a twelve year period, he was laid off from the railroad and was forced to find work elsewhere. Working three jobs and seven days a week, he supported his family all the while instilling life lessons of perseverance and hard work. His children never forgot. His hard work paid off and after regaining his position at Conrail, he retired in 1999.

Though technically "retired" Richard never sat still. He was a classic tinkerer, always looking for the next project.

Richard cared so much for others and family always came first. Not only was his immediate family provided for but any extended family and friends were always welcome at the Lacey household, no questions asked, he was always there for support. As his grandchildren came of age, Poppy was always there for a ride home from school or any other events.

Richard attended Discover Church.

Along with his loving wife Maria, he is survived by his son Joseph Lacey of Mansfield, son and daughter-in-law Richard and Mary Lacey of Lexington, Ohio, daughter and son-in-law John and Zoraida (Lacey) McGrew of Lexington, and daughter and son-in-law Eddy and Michelle (Lacey) Snyder of Mansfield; grandchildren Andrew Kopina, Laney and Ethan Snyder, Stephanie and Kristi Sazdanoff, Eden and Zoe Lacey, Phoebe, Mark Thomas, and Ellen Isaac, and Miles and Lucy Isaac; brother George "Bud" Lacey of Garland, Texas, sisters and brother-in-law Gloria Gall of Mansfield, Shirley Eckert of Galion, Ohio, and Linda and Jack Bosco of Mansfield, brother and sister-in-law Keith and Darlene Lacey of Bellville, Ohio along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his grandchildren Levi Lacey, Milan and Makayla Lacey; son-in-law Steven Kopina, sisters Beverly Guegold and Dixie Kimes.

Visitation will be held Wednesday May 18, 2011 from 4-7pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where his funeral will be held at 11am Thursday. Pastor Jeff Shaull will officiate.
Military honors performed by the Richland County, Ohio Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will follow.

Memorial contributions to the Richard Lacey Memorial Fund may be made through the funeral home.

Private online condolences to the family may be made by visiting:www.snyderfuneralhomes.com

Laceys of Thorold, Canada

Hello,

I am currently trying to find information on the Laceys of Ontario, Canada, specifically from the Thorold/St Catherine area, around the early to mid 1800s.

My ancestor, Isaac Lacey (b. 1804), came to California from Canada in the 1850s with his wife, Maria, and his children. A family history put together by a cousin about sixty years ago indicates that his family came from the St. Catherine area, and I have recently found a marriage certificate for Isaac's daughter, Maria Augusta (b. 1843), which lists her place of birth as Thorold, Upper Canada.

I now believe Isaac Lacey is the son of George Lacey and Elizabeth Lee (m. 1797 in New Jersey), who lived in Thorold. There seems to be much more information about several of their other children, but very little other on Isaac, other than that in 1826, he married a woman by the name of Maria Larroway, so I am trying to confirm this connection and make contact with others researching this Lacey family.

I do know that another of George and Elizabeth's children, Abigail, settled in the same very small town that my ancestor, Isaac, settled in, which would seem to further indicate a connection.

If anyone is also researching the Laceys of Thorold, I would very much appreciate hearing from you.
