I'm interested in Charlotte as well. My ancestress, Rosalie Broyard Barre b:1802 was (as far as I'm able to know at this point) the daughter of Etienne Broyard Barre and Genevieve Dugue. She married Antoine Mayeux in 1817. According to the record of the marriage, she was an orphan, and Charlotte Lafitte Lacour gave permission for her neice to marry. I just wonder if she was her actual neice or maybe just her ward. Anyone who might know anything, please feel free to msg me.

Yes, please put me on the mailing list! I hope to get more of my photos and letters together. I have some from when Ramey Lafitte was in the war, writing letters home. Photos of the Wiggins, Howell's, and more. One I'm having trouble pinning down is a "Telespose Flores Vascoe Lafitte, married to Severe Lafitte. I have some land deed transactions and census reports where they are living as man and wife. Who was she? It's really weird. The letters I have are copies from LSU Library. But I hope to share them with all when I can get some free time. Thanks for sharing, Beth!

Sherry Jane Cooke
scooke@utmb.edu

We live in League City, Texas and I work at UTMB in Galveston, Texas.
Hello, Elizabeth; Saw your post to Nancy Omi, who I lost contact with for a couple of years due to pc crash. Our Lafittes have started having a biannual Reunion in Natchitoches, LA. The last one was April 19, 2007. Hope you can attend the next one in 2009. I am descended from Joseph Pierre Laffitte/Lafitte thru Robert Arnold Lafitte as is Rodney Boles. His mom, Nancy, was my first cousin.
Several notable researchers of Jean Laffite, including Robert Vogel of St. Paul, MN, and Jean Epperson, a historian and genealogist from Dayton, TX, have disproved the connection between that Jean Laffite and our Paul Bouet Lafitte. Jean Epperson was the one who spoke at our 2005 Lafitte Reunion.
I don't know the source of Nancy Omi's information that our Paul Bouet (Laffite) was born in Haiti and was connected to Alexander Dominique You. Interesting, though.
Our youngest son, Kevin, lives in S. Austin. Would love to meet you sometime.
Email me at rbbla@yahoo.com
Beth Lafitte Austin
Would you have any information on Julia Lafitte who married George Washington Taylor about 1923, probably in Texas. She was living with him and his first wife in the 1920 Hunt County, Texas Census. First wife's name was Mary. Julia was enumerated as George's sister-in-law in the 1920 census. He was in Hunt County and single at the 1900 census, but married Mary sometime after the census was taken. Thank you for any information you might have on these families. Frances

Elias Lafitte

Jean Lafitte born Languedoc, France married Jeanne Degas. They had Elias Lafitte I who married 9/6/1778 Marie Louise Porche. Elias and M. Louise had 3 children that I know of: Marie Josephe, Charlotte and Elias II. Elias II ., brn 1/ 1781(birth recorded at Opelousas) married Marie Celeste Mercier 8/16/1808 at Pointe Coupee. He died at Cat Island and is buried in Feliciana Parish. All this is recorded in Baton Rouge records. Elias II and M. Celeste Mercier had a daughter named Marie Louise Lafitte who first married Antoine Duplechin and then Basile Juneau widow of Jeanne Lemoine. Basile Juneau and Marie Louise Lafitte are my greatgrandparents on my mothers paternal side. If there is anyone who is researching this same line please contact me thru this post or at jnewingham@aol.com. I am at a lost as to where to look next. I have found connections of the Lafitte's and Porche families to the Mercier and Lefebvre families of Natchitoches and wander if my Lafitte's also hail from the Natichotches area.
Thanks
Jeanette Guillot Newingham

Lafitte - Alex W. Lafitte

Mary,
It's been a while since you posted this message, but I am seeking relatives of this particular line of Lafittes. I am not sure, but I think that Alex Washington Lafitte married Mattie Holder as I have the death certificates for both and it is A. W. Lafitte and Mrs. A. W. Lafitte on the death certificates. Not, Alex Levi Lafitte. However, Levi does come into play, because Alex had a brother named Joseph Levi that went by Levi. I am a descendant of John Albert Lafitte who is a brother to Alexander Washington Lafitte. I would love to chat with you as I knew from the obituary that one of the daughter of Mattie married into the last name of "Protho" apparently "Prothro" (and the newspaper had it wrong)... My direct email address is laperdue@gte.net
Thanks

This is very interesting. My brother-in-law is also a direct descendant of Jean Lafitte's. We have been to the wax museums in New Orleans where Jean Lafitte is most famous and my brother-in-law looks just like Jean Lafite except for the hair and eye color. His are light brown and green whereas Jean's are dark brown and dark brown. If you ever get down there go and look and see if your relatives look anything like Jean. Of course being a descendant would make you and my brother-in-law cousins. You can email me directely at cjps69@hotmail.com

My grandfather John Clifton Lafitte who will
be 100 years old is alive and well living
in Portland ,Oregan. He married Hazel Irma
Mitchell in 1929.She passed away in 1962/8
They lived in Raineer mostly where great grandfather Albert A. Mitchell bought land
when they moved from Virginia. His wife
is Surrilda Jane Thomason/Mitchell.She past on in 1975 at 94.My mother Hazel Jean
Lafitte will be 70 in August 18,2001.She is
the oldest and her sisiter Anita Joan Lafitte/Kling is 16 months younger.Aunt Joan
has a strong resemblance to Lucy Carrie Lafitte.Aunt Joan has only one child from
first marriage, Mike Clarke,wife Lori,
daughter Brittiany.Mike also carries a strong
resemblance of Grandpa John. My mother looks
alot like Grandpa as well, who is said to look
like his dad with his mother's eye's.After going through the site early today, which I
thoroughly enjoyed, did find his name and place in the family. He is number 9th.He is the one who first told me all the name 's of
family member's,his that is.As well,as saying that we are related to the infamous Jean Lafitte. Moving on.My mother married a Gary
Kalani Yamada. There are four of us children.
Clifton Kalani is single,40 and the eldest.
Next, is Hazel Laulani who is 38 married
to a Alex Sumagit .They have to daughter's
Oldest is Amanda Pomaikaiolani,12 December 3
and next is Jean Keola.Jean was born September 16,2000. Mitchell Kaleo is 37 not
married. I am the youngest. My name again is
Nancy Keola Omi. I am married to Yoshihiro
"Roy" Omi ,youngest of Hiroshi and Masae Omi.
We have a son.He is also 12 but, born July 19,1989,his name is Yurick Kalani.I'm sure there may be great surprize to hear the diversed background such as mine. You have no
idea who diffficult living in Hawaii, with white skin, and a Japanese last name.
