William LaFountain - d1917 Windsor Locks, CT

I am trying to find out more information about my great grandfather who was married to Julia Barnaby and died in Windsor Locks, CT in 1917. There is little we know about him: who his parents were? How he died? where we was born?

I have a few things which I have pieced together but I am very unsure about the info I have on his parents. I was able to find his gravestone in the cemetery in CT, but not much more. It appears that his wife went on to sire another child (Daniel Cahill) and moved in with a much older man. She was also married before that to Joseph Minor and had children with him. it is unclear why she was divorced.

Theron and Jane LaFountain

I have hit a roadblock in my research. looking for parents of theron LaFountain. Born 1814 in Canada. married to a Jane LaFountain, with sons Francis and philip lafountain. Francis went on to live in new york with the Ano family as a servant.

My great grandparents names are Andrew Lafountain and Lisa(Marsha) Lafountain and they had a daughter Elizabeth but I can't find any other information on this side of my family.Elizabeth married Norman Rathbun and had alot of kids. Any information that this might be my great grandparents would be greatly appreciated

First off, I think you have an error. From the Social Security Death Index:

George Lafountain
Last living in Enfield, Hartford, CT 06082
Born: 15 Nov 1901
Died: Jan 1968
SS# 042-20-5404 issued Connecticut (Before 1951)

So he was born in 1901, not 1906.

1930 Suffield, CT Census shows a George Lafountain, 29 years and born in CT, parents born NY & England, living with his older sister Mary L. and her husband Charles F. Austin. George has a 4 year old son named Alec. No spouse listed. Not sure if this is him.

To follow this trend...In 1900 Suffield, CT Census: I find Mary L., born July-1894 CT, daughter of Alec (born NY) and Angelina (born England) LAFOUNTAIN. Siblings are Joseph (b.Oct-1895) and Henry (b.Jul-1899).

In 1910 Windsor Locks, CT Census: I find Alix (b. NY) and Lena (b.England) with children Lillie (14 years, b.CT), Joseph (13y b.MA), Henry (10y b.MA) and George (8y b.CT) LAFOUNTIAN.

In 1920, I can only find Mary L. and Charles F. Austin in Suffield, CT. Not sure where everyone went.

Alec/Alix maybe Alexander Lafountain and Angelina/Lena [unknown] are possible parents of George. However, the 4 year old Alec (possibly named after the father) is a mystery. Could George have been married before marrying Madeline?

1910 Census gives his birth as Canada East (not Quebec). Lafountain could be Fontaine or Lafontaine. 1895 Kansas census gives wife names as Minnie and two years younger. Hard to match him up with parents. Do you have any other clues? How about siblings of Alfred?

They had four children Alberta b. 1889, Loreta b.1891, Florence b. 1893 and Fred b. 1895. Additionally, Alberta was married to John E. My wife is from Ludlow Mass. Indian Orchard. Her name is Charlene A. Lafountain, daughter of Del or Adelbert H Jr. and Beatrice nee Weber Lafountain, Del was the son of Adelbert H. Lafountain and Vina nee Peryea/Poirier Lafountin, Adelbert Sr was the son of Charles Lafountain [Ellenburg N.Y.] and Elizabeth nee Henry[Vermont].

This is a possible connection.

I have Joseph Briand (AKA Breau, Brian, Brion, Brien), son of Luc Briand and Magdeleine Poitevin. He married Marie Angelique Fontaine, daughter of Joseph-Marie Fontaine and marie Angelique Pouliot on 29-Aug-1814 in Laprairie, Laprairie, Quebec.

I don't have any information for them in NY state, but this may help if you can make a connections through siblings.

John married Nora Rose Barney 20 Aug 1906 in Linwood, Bay County, Michigan. At least 5 children from this union, including Louise, Joseph, Rozeal, John, and granddaughter, Elaine.

Nora b. 1888 daughter of Peter Barney and either ??Amanda Sherkey OR ??Monique Chartier. I would like clarification on this, please.

She moved from Canada to Vermont born in 1843 - Westford . I can't find out her parents names or where in Canada she was from. Both her parents were american Indians but our family didn't find out until an elderly relative died. They tried to hide that sort of thing unfortunately - I would love to find out from which tribe she came from and her native name. I've always felt a connection to nature and animals - it would mean a lot to find out something since everything was kept secret and no one knew what they were missing by not learning another culture.

I just found the obituary for Edgar Lafountain, born 1899, died 1967. son of Julia Morris and Louis (Moses) Lafountain. According to the 1900 census, Louis was born in 1870, Julia in 1877. I am looking for Moses Lafountain of Danemora, NY who married Julia Morrise (Morrisse) about 1894. I found them in the 1900 census with sons: John b. 1895 and Fred b. 1898., in Blackbrook, NY. I am told the had several children, but only know of 3, so far. Moses is mentioned in the census as Taf.
In the 1910 census Julia is married to Thomas Fisk, Edgar b. 1899 is with them. Thomas and Julia were married in 1904.
1910 census also mentions Ardell, Arthur and Philomene (mother to Thomas). They were also living in Blackbrook in 1910.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Ah, how would we know unless the lineage was traced? How far have you traced your ancestry?

There are MANY Fontaine, Lafontaine, Lafountain, etc. lines that do NOT connect to Jean de La Fontaine. However, some do. If you can provide your oldest know ancestor with maiden name of spouse, it will help all of us determine if you are connected.

Need Help with Leo LaFountain in 1910 Census

Leo LaFountain was born in Michigan on January 26, 1888 and died on October 27, 1964. He married Blanche Welch (November 1, 1891 in Ohio - September 19, 1932 in Ohio) on August 13, 1908 in River Rouge, Wayne County, Michigan and they had 2 children: Oma Theresa on April 9, 1909 in Michigan and Doris M on September 19, 1910 in Ohio.

Leo is in Wayne County, Michigan for the 1900, 1920 and 1930 Census. I have been able to find him in the 1910 to prove one way or another who is wife was at the time. I believe he was still married to Blanche in 1910 and not yet married to Mary Ellen. I have searched in Lucas and Ottawa Counties in Ohio and have global searched Michigan with no luck.

Could someone help with the 1910 Census for my great-uncle, Leo.

Are there multiple Oliver Lafountain Jr who were Coroners? There is an obituary of an Oliver Lafountain Jr, former coroner of Clinton County, resident of Champlain in The Plattsburgh Sentinal Feb 4 1930. His parents are Olivier Lafontaine and Zoe Cardin.

State (Year) SSN issued: Connecticut (Before 1951)

From 1930 Census Hardwick, Caledonia, VT:
Carl H Lafountaine, born about 1921
Parents: Michael A, Gertrude E.

So it looks like you need to add another state. Check the 1930 census for more information on origin of Michael and Gertrude and approximate year born.

I was wondering if anybody had info on LaFountain family in CT. My Great Grandfather, Carl H. LaFountain (1921-2002), lived there before 1951. Sometime after that he and his wife Arline (1922-1992) moved to Niagara Falls, NY (where we reside now). I have no information on any of my Lafountain relatives who came before him. Yes, you are correct that Lottie's parents were Hubert & Delia Normandin. I have been also doing research on Hubert's parents who are Andre & Maria and got them twisted. Lottie was my father's sister and I only have what he told me. They got married in 1919 and had 4 children. My father was Francis Andrew. I am sorry that I don't know anything about Clifford's parents and all my father's family have passed away.

Hmm. I think I found them in the 1920 Glens Falls, NY Census (ward 5). It shows Clifford LaFontaine (indexed as Lafourtaine) living with Lottie with what appears to be her parents.

However, it is not Andre and Maria, but Hubert and Delia NORMANDIN.

By any chance, do you have his parents?
