Laidler from Newcastle/South Shields
Thomas Laidler was born in 1889 in South Shields. He was one of five brothers. His family owned the Tyneside Glassworks making all types of glass including chandeliers.In 1912 he sailed in the company of the Firmstone Family for Australia and worked in the Wollongong area for some time before moving to the Newcastle (Australia)area. In 1915 he enlisted in the Australian Army and fought in France. In 1919 he married Mary Hannah Johnson of Whylam and migrated with her to Australia where he worked as a coal miner, finishing up at Pilaw Main near Kurri Kurri. He and his wife had one child Frederick born in 1921. They retired to Belmont on Lake Macquarie. Mary died in 1968 and he died in 1974.
