This Ron must be my pal from Kansas City. We went to East High and on to the U.S. Army? We were also room mates for a short time after the army, until he married Jane (I think was her name?). We caught up with each other in Los Angeles when I was there on business. Funny, he called my home in K C and my wife told him I was in LA! He lived in I believe West Covina.

Hi cynthia! I just got off the phone with your mom! LOL! I have been researching this family for some time. Your great-grandmother, Lois J. Reece is a relative of my husband (Lois is his great-grandfather, Earl's, sister). James Westly, your dad, was named after your great-great grandfather (Lois's dad), James Westly Reece. If you would like I can send you an invite to the tree here on ancestry.com. Shoot me an email! :) littlemalynda@aol.com

Hello,
I just now read your post. My nephew posts on here often I think. Just wanted to let you know that your grandfather Ambrose R. LaMetterey was married to Ada Mae Ewing. I have a picture of their children Dubby (in his navy uniform) and Ginger. My mother was friends with Ada Mae. Your grandfather was born Jan. 5, 1915. His mother was Lois Jane Reece LaMetterey born April 15, 1885 in Greenleaf, Kansas, and father was Leo Leander LaMetterey, born Feb 28, 1883 in Minnesota. The spellings and info was in a bible kept by my grandmother, and even when listing the names they were spelled different. Strange. We never asked about it, since children were to be seen and not heard.

Hi Leo,
I send my sympathys to you for losing your Dad. I am Mike's wife's sister. I recieved the message about your Dad yesterday thru the Lamatry message board. I contacted my Mom in Topeka, Ks and she contacted Mike's (ex?) wife, my sister. Luetta (my sister) then contacted Mike in California. So he does know about his brother. I don't know how to contact him, but my sister lives in Salt Lake City and her number is 801-840-5552. Luetta can get a message to him. He did tell Luetta that he would like to attend. If I can be of any more help, let me know. Helen Clifton

Thanks Erinn. Another spelling. Gee. I didn't have that one. Have you found anything??? The rest of the info I did have. How is Uncle Jerry? I am Joseph's grand daughter Rhonda. Jerry and I did write each other for awhile. Loved the letters. Were you told of the castle in LaHarve? Don't get excited the last I heard it was a pile of rocks. Some king gave it to our great great?? for saving his life. True or not I really don't know. Of course I can't find any info. Does Uncle Jerry have any pictures of his brothers, uncles, etc? I would love to have some. Take care.

Here is what Grandpa Jerry said:

" The original name was Le Metri. My great grandfather ( I don't know his first name} came from France on his brother's ship. That was the first try. His brother brought him back, but it seems he didn't want to be in the military. He loved animals and lived on a large estate in Le Havre( near Le Havre) . He stowed away a second time and his father relented and allowed him to stay in America. The prodigal son was the patriarch of our American family."

Erinn, wanting info on the name is the mystery of the century. I have looked at info from France and USA. It is a mess. Uncle Jerry could tell you some stories. He has shared some info with me. My grandfather is Joe Uncle Jerry's brother. We spell our name different, LaMatry. The name changing is one of the reasons we can't trace it. Even though the five brothers changed it here in the USA we need to know what it was before they got off the boat from France. There are not to many of us. I have spent at least 8 yrs searching. Don't stop the search. Take care
Rhonda

Sorry, I think I knew it was Reading. Erica the oldest has a job and has gotten her own place. We all hoped she would attend college as she is so smart and seems to really want a better life than her mom seems to want. The only kids I have ever seen are Erica and Miranda and that was when Miranda was two. Several years ago Mike and Luetta moved to North Carolina for a job and while there, Luetta took the kids and ran back to Salt Lake City with a guy she met on the internet!!!! We couldn't believe it. She then had two more children with that guy. After Erica and Miranda are Alexa then a boy, Nick, then a girl named Larissa and I'm not sure of the names of the last two. They have a mexican father. Mom and I worry so much about the kids and wish we could have contact with them. If I can get Mom to get Erica's address, would you like it? The last I heard Mike was driving a semi. Mom talks about what a good father Mike is to his kids. Not sure how much he sees them now. Mom also talks about what a nice person Clara was. She says Alexa looks like Clara. I'm thinking Luetta can't come back to Kansas without getting arrested. Not sure why. I think driving without a license years ago. Take care Helen

But I would like to get in contact with them by EMail. Thanks for the information. Incidentally, you have just seen the tip of the iceberg. I have a very large family. I have to go right now. But I will talk with you very soon."

So, La Matry and La Mattery are the same family, yeah!
I notice the name Joanne Price on your e-mail. That is the name of one of Mike Lamatry's sisters in Americus, Kansas. Her husband is a big rancher there. Mike Lamatry married my sister, Luetta from Emporia, Kansas. The moved to Salt Lake City a few years after they married. I haven't seen my sister since. I have talked to her in years past. So I am not a Lamatry, but my sister is by marriage. A Leo Lamatry contacted me by this site last night and said his father is a brother of Mike"s father. Do you know Leo Lamatry? Was Clara your Grandma? I don't know where Mike is other than that he and Luetta are not living together any longer. They had 5 or 6 kids and then Luetta had several more with another man. I was also contacted a year or so ago by Donna Lamatry Mike's former wife. I contacted this site several years ago when Luetta had not had contact with any family and I was wondering where she was. My Mom knows more about the family than I do. If I can help let me know. Helen

How very neat to find some relatives! Do you live in Kansas? If so, we may have met once, when I was a little girl. When my parents were returning from Europe back in 1970 something, we stopped off to visit relatives in Kansas.

I will write more later and tell you more about us.

Many regards!
Erinn

I am almost positive there's a connection, the names are all very familiar and I remember stopping off in Kansas once upon a time to visit some relatives from my dad's side of the family there. I just sent my grandpa an email to ask.

He was in the Navy during WW2, at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. After that he was stationed in Japan for 5 years with his family, then settled in SD and later on in Hemet, became a teacher and retired about 10 years ago. He and my grandmother still live in Hemet, and are doing very good. They are both nearing or are in their 80s. They had 5 kids, Jane, Mary, John, Jim and Kathy. I am John's eldest daughter.

I'm Erinn, hi! I read a message here about someone visiting their Uncle Jerry and Aunty Betty in California, who are my grandparents and wondered if we were related. I've had a really hard time finding any information about the LaMattery family other than my immediate circle. I'm going to ask my grandfather if this is part of his family, perhaps we are connected in some way.

Regards!

Sorry I was confused. Who then is Erinn? Do you hear any news from Mike about the kids? I feel so bad for them the way Luetta has done. I know the oldest one has moved out on her own. Luetta pretty much just contacts the family if she needs money and gets mad when no one sends any.
Well, they are in my prayers.
This is a sister-in-law of Mike Lamatry who is married or was married to my sister, Luetta. I remember my Mom mentioning Mike's Mom Clara and how much one of Luetta's children looks like Clara. I have no contact with Luetta but know thru my Mom that Mike still sees his children. I was looking at one time for Mike and Luetta and that is why I contacted this board. They are in Salt Lake City, Utah. Sorry I don't have any ancestry information. I do know Mike has other children and I'm thinking some in California. Are you a daughter? Let me know if I can be of further help. Sincerely Helen

Curious to know where our name came from and how large our family is.
