I am years behind you. I picked up the same info in "History of Butler County". It talks of Zella Lamb who was my Aunt. I can verify the tree is correct up to Cyrus. I have never heard of Cyrus and cannot find a thing on him.

James Lamb 1909 moved to USA.

Hi
I'm trying to trace James Lamb who at the age of 21 years old ran away from home. He was never heard from again but his family believed that he went to America. He was born in Coalisland in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He is the brother of my Great Grand Father Hugh Francis Lamb. Their Father was John Lamb and their Mother was Jane McCabe. Any help would be appreciated.

Temperance Mary Lamb (Lamm)

I am looking for an ancestor, Temperance Mary Lamb (or Lamm). She was born abt 1820 in April. She lived there until 1840, when she moved to Alabama. She married a man named Rufus Uriah Morse?. I know the last name is Morse. I don't know where in Georgia they lived. The supposedly had 13 children, only 9 are listed in the census records. Most of them died after 1860, possibly in the Yellow Fever epidemic in 1867, Grimes County, Texas. I would be eternally grateful for any small lead. Just the county name where they lived would be so helpful.

That is so COOL! and amazing that you would offer to someone you've never met! Well done! Unfortunately, that is not from my Lamb line either. But I do have in my possession a very sheer, embroidered (and slightly tattered) ladies' hankerchief attached to a postcard from Paris during WWI, the Great War. It was from my Grand Uncle Noah Lamb to my grandmother, Vina Lamb. It really touched my heart that she kept it intact all the rest of her long life. I hope the descendants of your V-mail can get together with you and visit about this artifact.

Carry on the good search and from another Lamb to you, Happy Mother's Day to you and yours!

LAMB V-MAIL

(I posted this in 2004 but thought I would again as maybe a descendant might be interested) At an antique store in Ellensburg, WA, I bought an item which may interest someone out there. If so please contact me. It is a World War II V-mail in excellent condition with the original envelope dated sent April 5, 1944 from a Lt. Col. F. G. (Frederick) Lamb, APO NY NY, and to a Mrs. Chas. F. (Margaret) Clay in Seattle, Washington. Picture on the v-mail says Easter Greetings from Italy. It has a personal typewritten message and is signed. Since this is not a Lamb within my own Lamb ancestors, I thought someone on this list might be related in some way. That is all the information I have on the persons involved.

I am seeking info on Brice Richard Turberville born 1824-1830 and died as a POW Civil War 1865. His family is from Franklin/Colbert County, AL. Does anyone know who his children are? I am trying to connect Joseph Turberville born 1853 or 1854 with Brice. I can't quite make the connections--dates don't quite jive. The Lambs are cousins. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

tgtg

Diane,
I think the Turberville you are looking for is Laban Turberville. He was born either 1793 or 1797. He was married 3 times, I believe: Penelope Smith, Mary Lamb, and Sarah B. Thompson. He had 11 children and 6 step-children if my info is correct. He moved to Arkansas from Franklin County AL before 1860. He is possibly my great-great-great grandfather. I am trying to verify that. I am looking for info on Brice Richard Turberville possibly the son of Laban. Do you have any Turberville info. Thanks.

Theresa Turberville Gaisser

I have been trying to find out family info and keep coming up with William Riley Turberville, Charlotte Turberville Lamb, Adalaide/Adaline Turberville Lamb and several others. They are siblings. Children of Joseph and Sarah Quimby Turberville from Sampson County, NC. Many of the Lamb names are Turberville names too. I believe they are all cousins from Colbert County (formerly Franklin County) AL. Do you have any info on a Brice Richard Turberville in any of your Lamb info? Thanks. He married my Gt Aunt Elizabeth Holding in 1917, Lambeth, London. Olive was born in 1922 and her brother Ronald (known as Ronnie) in 1928.

I have traced a marriage for Olive however, nothing for Ronnie.
Re: John Lyon Lambe/Glamis Scotland/b 1431

My best guess is that the Lambe came from a move from being a Lord Glamis (which is pronounced to rhyme with Lambe and therefore could explain the misunderstood name to be of Glamis) to being a wool merchant. There is some clue that this did happen if you note the change in coat of arms from the Laird Glamis to one with three lambs on a background of red. If the family business became the export of wool this would account for the family name dropping from Lyon to Lambe and later Lamb as the family migrated to the American Colonies. Family names could be place names or related to occupation. I believe that different brances of the family migrated to different locales and each had distinct heraldry.

It could be that there were 2 John Lyons. One I have as being born 1452 and one in 1452. I am seeing that it wasn't unusual to have 2 children with the same name which makes things very confusing. I am just sorting this out on my family tree. Also there was a time where the Lyons were not in residence at Glamis Castle owing to a widow Lyon being accused of treason or witchcraft, but then later were back in good graces and a Lyon was back in Glamis.
I also have noticed that if someone died young they named a sibling after them, so sometimes there will be listed many children of the same name but none survive. I have also seen same names with "the elder" and "the younger".
Any help you have I would appreciate.
I know that at a certain point a Lyon got into the wool business and this accounts for the change to Lyon Lambe and finally to Lambe in one thread. I also like the theory that Glam or Glams sounds like Lambe.

I'm looking for information regarding an adoption in 1965. The family's name was reportedly Lamb. The birth mother would have been about 31 and would have had several older children. The baby girl was premature and born in Harvey, IL. Looking for medical history and nationality mostly. The adopted understands that the family may not want contact but is open to the idea. Dr. Urban may have facilitated the adoption.

The Wife of Isaac Lamb (circa 1664-1723) of Watertown, Massachusetts and Groton/Mystic, New London, Connecticut

It has been established beyond dispute, by both PLUMB and LAMB family historians that Elizabeth HEMPSTEAD, daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth LARRABEE HEMPSTEAD had no connection whatsoever to the LAMBS, in particular Isaac LAMB.

While this genealogical error has taken on a life of its own over the past 75 years, it clearly flies in the face of indisputable historical record (record I've been researching for 25 years). Ancestry.com, unregulated Internet "data clearinghouse," has only served to multiply this non-historical error through means of instant, readily available cut-n-paste tree-building.

Elizabeth HEMPSTEAD'S brother Joshua HEMPSTEAD wrote a diary over a period of 47 years from 1711 until his death in 1758. In that journal, published by the New London County Historical Society, he refers to John PLUMBE as "Brother Plumb" more than 30 times over the 21 years the DIARY overlaps John PLUMB'S life, as "Deacon PLUMB" & "Justice PLUMB" scores of times.

He refers to Elizabeth (his sister) as "Sister Eliza PLUMB" or "Sister PLUMB" many times, and to PLUMB relatives as nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles in scores of instances (for instance, he records the death of John PLUMB'S mother Elizabeth GREEN PLUMB thus: "Aunt Plumb died.")

In the 12 years the DIARY overlaps Isaac LAMB'S life, Joshua makes one passing & incidental reference to Isaac LAMB, with no hint of familial connection. I'd also refer you to the research of LAMB family researcher Clovis LaFleur, who (along with LAMB and STARK family associates) states that Elizabeth HEMPSTEAD "...clearly could not have been married to both John PLUMB and Isaac LAMB at the same time...," and as there is no historical record confirming a LAMB/HEMPSTEAD connection...and primary and direct recorded evidence of a PLUMB/HEMPSTEAD connection, she was obviously married to John PLUMB, as recorded in her brother's DIARY, New London, New London Vital and Town records, wills, probates and church records.

My appeal: I need the support of every Isaac LAMB & Stark family researcher, because if the histories of our families are to display genealogical accuracy and integrity, it's high time we laid this unfortunate 75 year old mistake (and major inaccuracy) to rest.

Hello David,

I appreciate your information greatly, and of course would love any further details you may be able to share. Research via census and other gathered knowledge has given me the names of some of John's other children including: Decimus (my direct descendant, as mentioned), James Henry, William, Eliza, and Frances Anne. I can only guess the order in which the children were born, as such:

Mathias (1826)
John (1826)
Frances Anne (1830)
Eliza (1831)
James (1833)
Decimus (1834)
Emily (1839)
Catherine Mary (?)

It's possible that Sarah, Edward, William, and were born after the 1841 census, or were all old enough to have moved out of home before it was taken, thus placing them elsewhere. I have both the 1841, and 1851 censuses that mention the Lambs, and would be willing to share if you are interested.

Also, after contacting the archive and records manager at Corpus Christi I was able to obtain an image - though not the exact one I was looking for, but an image all the same - of John Lamb, which I can also share.

- Kayla.

What is the last name of the Royal family in England?
If you ask a Brit what prince Charley or Willy's last name is, they don't know either. I mean, what's the Queen Mum's last name? Are they Stuarts or what?
3 years ago Report Abuse Additional Details
Thank you for the answers, the explanations were all excellent. As a Scottish Chieftain, they all made perfect sense to me. Thanks again.
by Paco Member since:
April 22, 2008
Total points:
44,213 (Level 7)
Add Contact

Block

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker
This question is asked so often that there is a whole page on the royal families website answering it. The Queen has only needed a surname at one point in her life, when she was 18 years old and served in the army. She used Windsor.
-------------
The queen's patrilineal line (through fathers only) would lead back to the "House of Wettin" . Over the centuries as different properties came under the control of the family they changed the family name to reflect their new estates. However, the royal family adopted the name "Windsor" in 1917 after the town and castle associated with the royal family since the 11th century. At the same time they publicly disavowed there German titles. This was to supress some of the public discontent. The UK was fighting a terrible war with Germany whose emporer was the first cousin of the King.
-------------
The queen's four children (male and female) do not require surnames since they are princes and princess. Princess Anne's children are named after their father (Philips). The children of both Prince William and Prince Harry will also be princes and will not need surnames. The children of Princess Eugenie and Beatrice and Louise will take the name of their father. Only James (1 year old) will pass on the name Mountbatten-Windsor to his children in honor of the royal household name and the surname of Prince Philip. Unfortunately since Prince Philip is already 87, he will never live to meet those children.
====================
The Queen mother who died in 2002, had no surname either. Normally, the daughter would be called "Elizabeth, The Queen" and the mother would be called "Queen Elizabeth". Since this distinction was considered too subtle for most people, the mother formally included her status as Queen Mother into her style. She was known as Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. This was abbreviated to Queen Mother, and finally to The Queen Mum as a sign of the affection that people felt for her. Her maiden name was "Bowes-Lyon" and this is her bloodline:
====================
GN - F - Name (Regal #) - Title - Death
0 - X - HM Queen Elizabeth II - HRH The Duke of Edinburgh -
1 - M - HM Queen Elizabeth, - married to HM King George VI - 2002
2 - P - Claude Bowes-Lyon - 14th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne - 1944
3 - P - Claude Bowes-Lyon - 13th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne - 1904
4 - P - Thomas Lyon-Bowes - Lord Glamis - 1834
5 - P - Thomas Lyon-Bowes - 11th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne - 1846
6 - P - John Lyon - 9th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne - 1776
7 - P - Thomas Lyon - 8th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne - 1753
8 - P - John Lyon - 4th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne - 1712
9 - P - Patrick Lyon - 3rd Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne - 1695
10 - P - John Lyon - 2nd Earl of Kinghorne - 1646
11 - P - Patrick Lyon - 1st Earl of Kinghorne |9th Lord of Glamis - 1615
12 - P - John Lyon - 8th Lord Glamis - 1578
13 - P - John Lyon - 7th Lord Glamis - 1559
14 - P - John Lyon - 6th Lord Glamis - 1528
15 - P - John Lyon - 4th Lord Glamis - 1500
16 - P - John Lyon - 3rd Lord Glamis - 1497
17 - P - Patrick Lyon - 1st Lord Glamis - 1459
18 - P - Sir John Lyon - Master of Glamis - 1435
19 - M - Johanna m. John Lyon - 2nd husband: Thane of Glamis - 1382
20 - P - Robert II - King of Scots - 1390

Maybe this helps it is the Queens line and Sir John is listed as well as son Patrick but not the Lambe part
