Dear Janice
I think we have been in contact before but I've only recently begun to research again. George Applegarth was my great great great grandfather.( I may have put inone 'great' too many) Recent research suggests that Elizabeth came from Hartburn in Northumberland near Morpeth. There are marriage and birth records online.

You probably responded to me before but a glitch in my PC destroyed much of my hard drive and any replies etc would have been lost along with the rest of my documentation.

Would you be willing to share information?

Best wishes

Judith Charlton

Royal LAMBTONs of Durham England & a scandal

Note: this is NOT about the more recent (1973), LAMBTON scandal
Hiya,
I am trying to find any reference to a royal scandal involving my Great Grandmother's sister.
Florence SPROULE married Darcy LAMBTON.
Darcy was of the royal LAMBTON family of Durham England.
His father was George Frederick LAMBTON the 2nd Earl of Durham & mother was Lady Beatrix Frances HAMILTON.
Florence SPROULE married Darcy LAMBTON in 1888 in Sydney Australia. This isn't a fantasy, the marriage and following birth of their daughter are listed in royal lineages.
I have no idea how Florence could have met Darcy, perhaps her work put in her in contact with visiting dignitaries - don't know why Hon. & Captain Darcy LAMBTON would have been in Australia during the 1880s.
I've known about that for a few years now, and that Florence SPROULE & Darcy LAMBTON divorced (1899).
But another story relating to this has come to light from a recently found SPROULE connection.
The story is that Darcy LAMBTON divorced Florence because she had a "hot & passionate affair" with Robert Falcon SCOTT - of Antarctic fame, which resulted in not only the LAMBTONs divorce, but a royal scandal. I don't know if this is true and have searched online for any reference to this scandal. My guess is this would have happened before SCOTT married Katherine BRUCE, & before he became "SCOTT of the Antarctic".

The family rumour has it that Florence died clutching a portrait of SCOTT to her breast.

Does anyone know where I could search -online- for any reference to this, or has it been competely covered up??

Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Charmaine

John CARTER , a footman, eloped with blueblood Dorothy CHILTON in 1750. Dorothy was d/o Robert CHILTON and Anne LAMBTON. This LAMBTON line has been traced directly back to Edward IV. So I have that line but NOTHING on John CARTER. It was quite a scandal that even made the newspaper when they stole away in a "Post Chaise" (mail coach) from Durham to London in 2 days. John was "of Stratford" in the marriage record. It's a real brick wall that will probably stay that way but if anyone has anything?????????
Thanks for reading,
Suzanne Carter

One of her children by George is living with her parents (Chester). She had other children with Ward.
Dear Carol,

Huldah married Ward in 1837.....1861 she was married to William Burr and living in Euphemia Con.4 Lot 29......
they have a number of children listed....all with the surname of Burr and because of their ages they couldn't be
all Huldah and Williams' children.....Maybe he was a widower and she brought some of her children with her and they adopted the name? But please note Elizabeth....... Obviously, Huldah and the children born after her belong to both of them....I've documented Huldah...I keep getting knock off the internet I have typed all this once before.....also have a new scanner and would be able to e-mail some of the stuff I have much easier.....But back to the Census:
This is from a copy of Euphemia Township Census 1861 published by the Lambton O.G.S. page 35.
William age 47 Ireland
Huldah age 40
Samuel age 23
Mary Anne 21
John age 16
Daniel age 14
Elizabeth I.12
Huldah A, 10
Ezra age 8
Matilda age 6
Arron age 2
All born in c.w. except William.....all C of E except Huldah
she is WM
Huldah A. marries William Kain they have four boys and two girls....I have documented all except Ernest who marries ?
but according to my Aunts has a daughter named Viola .....he died in Detroit.....Ernest would have died in early 1940's.....I only added that because James and Elizabeth had a child by the name of Viola....I live in Woodslee in Essex County near Chatham often go to Lambton to research.
E-Mail margie@mnsi.net
Thank you so very much,
Sincerely,
Margaret Jeffrey
P.S. page 23 Joseph Hicks, Huldahs' parents, Chester must be her son and living with his grandparents.

Hello Marg,
My John Bishop Ward was born 1844 in Mitchell, Perth County, Ontario to England born parents James Ward and Eliza (Sultzer) Ward. There were nine siblings, but none were George Ward. Bishop married Ellen Smith in Lambton County December 1870, but I have never found the record of marriage.
I did find the record of George Ward's marriage to Hildah Hicks, if you don't already have it.
Best Wishes,
Carol

Please note the new e-mail address: mrapposelli@rogers.com

I am searching for any information on a Richardson (Dicky) Atkin and his wife Jane (Farrow) Atkin who emigrated from England approximately 1869 and settled in Lambton County.

I believe they were married in Coningsby, England. Their first 6 children were born in Lincolnshire, England and the rest in Ontario, Canada.

Their children were Betsey, Joseph, John (my line) Thomas, Henery, Robert Richardson Jr., Herman (Kit), Clarence Earl, Albert and Maude.

Some of the information I have to date is that Richardson was a blacksmith by trade and was an apprentice in England for 7 years before emigrating. He first settled in Poplar Hill then moved to Euphemia Twp, Lambton County.

Any help on this branch of my family would be greatly appreciated and especially with the England connection.

Marilyn in Ontario, Canada
