Frank Lancaster 1895 - 1948?

Word has it in our family that a great-great was a horse thief and was hung for it. Maybe a fable as other families tell the same story. My mom's side are Lancasters from Philadelphia, Frank () L. was born about 1895 and died in 1948? A sister was Fanny, Aunt Fan, and a brother was Tom. Frank's wife was Helen Hugel / Heugel born probably in Philadelphia or nearby. His children were Tom, Helen, Grace, Ruth, and Bobby (dead at ~3), born in the teens and 20's but all gone now. Anything before that regarding any Philadelphia Lancasters would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Thomas Lancaster

Hello. My great grandmother was Ruby Mae Lancaster. She married Carlos Johnson. I, too, found an article about the Lynching, and I asked her about it. she became quite embarrassed and would not say anything about it. Later, a man named Phillip Beckner told me that Thomas Lancaster was his Great grandfather. I have since found multiple newspaper reports about the incident. In brief, Thomas was a hired hand for a doctor who practiced in Rocky Hill, KY. He lived 2 miles north of Rocky Hill on present day 31 W. Based upon the records, he would have lived near where Donnie and Doris Vance currently live. Supposedly, an argument occurred between the doctor and Thomas about wages. Afterwhich, the doctor and a companion departed his house in a horse drawn wagon on the road (present day hwy 259)headed for Rocky Hill. Thomas mounted a horse and took a direct route through fields to Rocky Hill. When the doctor arrived, he entered into a general store in Rocky Hill where Thomas greeted him with two shotgun blasts killing the doctor. Thomas was arrested and taken to the jail in Brownsville, KY. Sometime after that, a Lynch mob from Rocky Hill abducted Thomas from the jail and hanged him from a tree located near where present day hwy 259 and hwy 70 intersect. He is supposedly buried in the Brownsville cementary.

Are there any I've missed? Sorry I couldn't come up with a last name. She probably died around Stone Co AR (just a guess). You might check obits for the latter part of the century in Stone Co.

I have just sent a book on my Lancaster family of TX, AR, TN, VA off to the printer. This is the second edition. I descend through John b. @1700 in England; son John b. @1830 England; son Robert b. 1782 VA; son John b. 1801 TN; son John b. 1841 AR (Izard Co); son Albert Ross b. 1880 Stone Co AR. The family then traveled into TX. I also have a book written several years ago by Mary Nixon Rogers entitled Lancasters - VA to TX (or something like that). I will be happy to look up any names in her book. My book will sell for $15.00 and should be back in my hands in about a month. Please contact me if you are intersted.

Good to know. I appreciate any information you have. I don't have a paid Ancestry membership, so I don't know if we can see each other's tree, but feel free to check out mine if you can. My email is kennethoberle@yahoo.com
Nathanial's great-grandson, Elroy, is no longer with us, but his wife, Evelyn (90 yrs) is, as well as his children and grandchildren. My aunt Sylvia, Elroy's daughter, wrote,
"Lena and Elsie, their son Sam and his wife Coletta and Dad's grandfather, Samuel Young Lancaster and his wife Lizzie are all buried in the North East corner of the historical cemetery in Columbia, Missouri, off of the main street, Broadway. Samuel Young Lancaster joined the confederate army when he was 13. He was shot in Neosho, Missouri. His horse was shot out from under him. The saddle horn made a huge scar in his shoulder and the tip of his finger was shot off with the bullet that killed his horse. He survived and built a number of houses in Columbia and did the finish
carpentry with my Grandfather Elsie in the Missouri University Library. On flag day, they put American flags on all the soldier's graves,
including his, which he probably would not appreciate. Samuel Young Lancaster, fought in the Border Wars and would not talk about
Lawrence, Kansas. He knew Cole Younger and Jesse James and Buffalo Bill. He has, I think, a half sister or some kind of relative, buried
in the Lee's Summit, Cemetery, Natalie Mayes, In the front row by the main street.
Samuel Young Lancaster, had a bother, who was made to dig his own grave during the civil war. The Lancasters were here at least during the time of Adam's presidency, because Dad's [Elroy's] sister, Naomi, said we were related to the Adams' and had red hair back then."
Again, any info or stories you can share would be appreciated, I find all this very interesting. Thanks, Ken Oberle.

I am looking for a Richard A. Lancaster born 1848 in TN. He lived in Marshall, TX as that is where my husband's grandfather was born, Nello Marcus Lancaster. Richard married Mary Reece Breeding. From what I gather Mary took the kids and went back to Salado, TX and lived with her family for a while. We don't know what happened to Richard. When Mary died in 1946 her death certificate states that he is dead.
Richard according to census had a sister named Callie.
Do you have any information you care to share?
K

Hello,

On my profile it showed that you were searching Lancaster's and also Hannah Harland. I have been researching my family tree the last few months and I also found a Hannah Harland and I am a Lancaster (now Welch). Pateley bridge has also come up in my findings and I think there may be a link somewhere for us to share info. The scary/funny thing is, chrismk4 profile pic has an eerily similarity to my grandad (Samuel Lancaster). Your pictures are nearly identical.

The family member I have found from Pateley Bridge is James F Lancaster who would be my grandad's grandad.

All the names you state below seem to be similar to the family names I have but some of the dates are off so maybe these are brothers/sisters/cousins of the family I have found? Robert, William, John, Mary come up quite a bit.

ANy information would be great. I look forward to hearing from you!

Brad, you're right. I took a closer look at
the copy of the 1880 census I have and
it shows John Miltons' age as 42, not 32.
That would make his birth year 1838.
I glad the rest of you have been at this
longer than I have.......I apoligize.
............................Sherry D.

Sharon DeGruson
duckdegru@ckt.net

Brad. Found your reply. Would appreciate a text file on John Milton.
I made a info mistake in my posting, also. Eliza Jane was no the one
who was married 3 times. My Grandmother was. Sarah Louise Elendor was 1st
married to Jim Hill, 2nd to William O'Bryan and 3rd to my
grandfather William Henry Wheeler. My Grandmother divorced William
O'Bryan and Eliza Jane (Jennie) married him. Eliza Jane (GAunt Jennie and
William O'Bryan ended up in Colorado somewhere. GAunt Jennie must have
remarried after his death because in her later years, the pictures she
would send to my Grandmother were signed Jennie Cook.
We also have a picture of GUncle Willie and GAunt Dora Lancaster, GAunt Annie
and a picture of the Blacksmith shop that GUncle Willie and GUncle Frances ran.
My Mother thinks the Blacksmith shop was in Yellville, but couldn't remember
for sure. The copy of the 1880 census I have, shows John Miltons' age as 32 and
being born in Tennessee. Also, his wife, Elizabeth Mankin, being the same age and
also born in Tennessee. It only lists Willie and Frances as their children. The others
weren't born yet on that census. I plan to put some of these pictures on my
world tree file as I can get them scanned and uploaded. I don't much info on
this branch of my family, only what my Mother can remember being told by my
Grandmother. I'm putting pictures in my file because somewhere out there might
be decendants of these two people who don't have pictures of some of them and
they'll be able to download them and have copies for their files. It's a way
I can say thank you to people like you who do have names, dates and places.
I would be happy to share any info I do have that you might find useful.

Sharon DeGruson
duckdegru@ckt.net

Sharon
In reply to your request.
I will have to get back with you later, because I have to get ready to get my grandson in the Dallas area.
I have about 80 line of info in a excel spreadsheet file that I gathered while reseaching in the NW Ark. area for my kin.
Let me know how you can read these files. In Excel, Work, or just text file.
They cover from John Lancaster abt 1660 - 1770 from England, in Henrico Co. VA to around 1870.
I show John Milton Lancaster 1838 and Elizabeth Marilda Mankin 1848 with Francis Wade Lancaster 1879. Francis married Middie Main Hearst and had a son Jesse Lenuel (or Samuel) Lancaster. They had two daughters, Mamie Lea and Dorothy Lancaster. Dorothy marrried Robert Gregory Mayfield.
John Miltons father was Jesse Smith Lancaster abt 1803. Jesse's with was Nancy S. Ford. Jesse's father was William E. Lancaster 7/18/1762 to 1820. William's wife was Rhoda or Rhonda Smith. William's Parents John and Ann Lancaster (John 1730 Henrico Co. VA).
John's parents John Lancaster and Frances Allan. John was from England.
Hope this will help you. I have many other brothers and sisters.

You can contact me by
Bart Williams
BartWilliam@aol.com
