Hi Rachel - My name is Frank (Francis Thomas) Cuff. I currently live in Anson, Maine. I am 52 years old. My grandfather Frank Maybe Cuff was your grandmother Olga Cuff Landgraf's brother. I met your father James many years ago in Brooklyn, NY. I spoke to him on the phone about 5 years ago. I am sorry to hear he has passed away.
I don't know much about the Landgraf family except that your grandparents Frederick and Olga are buried in St. Charles cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. The dates of their death in your message are correct.
A couple of things about the Cuff family that may help your search; Olga's mother's name was Jennie Klotz, she was born in 1871 and according to her death certificate her father's name was Charles G. Klotz of Germany and her mother's name was Julia Tiesen of France, Michael Cuff was married to Margaret Conlon and they both came from Ireland. Michael was from County Galway. Michael is buried in Jersey City, NJ. He died there in a fire in 1870. Margaret is buried in Holy Cross cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or other family information to share.
Take care.
Frank Cuff

Hi, My ggrandfather's name was Wilhelm Landgraf. He emigrated to the U.S. from Saxe-Coburg in Germany about 1860. I have detailed information on his life but I am not at all sure this is the same Landgraf that you are looking for. He married a woman named Margaretha Schulz in Washington, D.C. on April 13, 1865.

Let me know if this could be your relative and I will send you some pretty interesting information on him. I would like to piece together my family tree if possible.
Lily

As these are gggrandparents I was hoping someone had some stories about these two and their parents.

Our family tree offers alternate names for Sophia as Rekel or Wiebking/Wiepking.

Re: Looking for my Landgraf family history

Wow! I am so glad to get this information. I keep running into another Raymond Landgraf who was born in 1896 right in the same area. Just before I recieved your message I had decided to see if William had any siblings from whom I could garner information. I had not found much other than a WWI Draft Registration Card for a George William Landgraf, born in 1873, living in Elgin, nearest relative Mrs. Jessie Landgraf with occupation of plater for Ill. Watch Case Co. I believe this may be our shared ancestor William.
With the information you have given me I have attempted to find the correct census reports. If I have them correct, it seems that Carl used the name Charles and sometimes Charlotte used the name Caroline. The big confusion I run into is that once William is on his own or married his parents' place of birth are both listed as Germany. But if he grew up hearing both his parents speak german he may have assumed his mother was also born in Germany.
I don't know if you need or want any more information for Raymond's line, but I can give you that. Just contact me at my personal email: gondor1963@yahoo.com.

Thanks so much cousin!

Pamela

Pamela, on an "all boards" search, I came across your message posted in the wrong place, as you said, and wrote away without realizing where I was posting! So here's the message. My name is Ginny Landgraf. You're my third cousin. Our great-great-grandparents were (Johann) Carl Ludwig LANDGRAF (26 Oct 1842, Goslar, Germany – 31 Jan 1921, Elgin, IL) and Charlotte Jeannette Françoise Frederique SCHEVERS (17 Jun 1845, Tiel, Netherlands – 25 Jul 1925, Elgin, IL). They had six children. I am descended from their oldest child, John Charles “J.C.” LANDGRAF (1869-1924). I also have some info about their parents and grandparents in Germany and the Netherlands. I will try to write up more of this info in the coming weeks. Here are the obituaries of our great-great-grandparents and your great-grandparents and the marriage notice of your great-grandparents, all from Elgin, Illinois.

I am trying to locate information on my ggggrandmother Anna Eberhardina Landgraf b. 1832 Bavaria d. 1912 Austin, Illinois. She married William Burkhardt around 1849 as their first child George Burkhardt was born in 1850.

Based on her death certificate her father was George Landgraf born in Germany. Her mother surname is Seifert also of Germany but I don't know her first name.

Anna may have had a brother named John and a sister. I did find Landgraf's in Chicago in the 1840 and 1850 census but I do not know if they are related.

William Burkhardt was a famous Musician like his brother Henry. Anna lived on the Burkhardt farm in Austin Illionois just outside of Chicago where the family moved to after a the famous Chicago fire destroy the family home.

Can any one help with the Landgraf family?
