My ancestor was Frantz Ferdnand Landgraff born 1754 in Bohmen Germany. We were always told he was a son of a Baron. We do not know the Parents of Frantz. He Married Maria Magdalena Laumann from Sachsen. They moved to Norway. Do you have any information on this family?

I haven't looked at this spelling of Landgraf before so have missed this by almost 2 years!
Maria Landgraf came from Kassel, Hesse born 1841 according to the 1871 UK Census. She married Wililliam Volke my great great Grandfather in London 1866. I think she had a brother Philipp who signed as a witness to that marriage. I am very interested in your tree should you wish to share it with me please. Did you get to go to Germany?

I am darn near sure that my great-grandfather's name was Karl Landgraf. Also, Hessen/Kassel sounds very familiar. My grandmother's maiden name was Clara Landgraf. Her married name was Hans. I will check it out with my mother. My grandmother had the most incredible memory and could tell you tons about her family and where they were from. Unfortunately, she passed away about 4 years or so ago. I believe her only living sibling is George Landgraf, who also has the most incredible memory, so he could probably tell you quite a bit. He lives in Colorado. Since my memory is absolutely horrible, I will check with my mother to see what she remembers. I can also find George's telephone number. He is extremely personable, highly intelligent and very young for his age (he was the youngest of the siblings I believe). I am sure (knowing his personality) he'd be delighted to hear from someone interested in the Landgraf family and could give you any information you needed if it is indeed the same family. All I remember at this point (without asking) was that she was from East Germany. Again, I believe, there are many records on file there in the Catholic Church as well as I am pretty sure they came through at Ellis Island. I also recall my Great-Uncle George telling me that when they came to America his father had changed their name from
Landgraff. My uncle didn't understand why since his name was nobility, meaning Land Baron. Also, there was a different way of using the name, I believe there was a masculine and femine form of the name. Landgrave was one of the two forms. I am not 100% positive but will try to research all of the bits and pieces of information that I have. Take care!
Doreen Nacht

Yes we did get to Germany 2 summers ago now.
We didn't find anything on that trip but since then, the relative we were visiting has found out that it is NOT Kaempfenbusch that my husband's great grandfather came from but "Kempfenbrunn." He was born Karl August Michael Landgraf on Oct.15, 1821. His parents were Michael VonLandgraf and Catherine Raget. (somewhere along the line the spelling has been changed?) Kempfenbruun is about 30 minutes from Frankfurt. She hopes to get back to a little church there someday to talk to the minister and see what more she can find. Not sure when he came to Canada, but that is where he met his wife and married Jan. 29, 1863
My Landgraff family came from Kragero (Telemark), Norway. I do have a Johan Landgraff, but that is back in the 1780's. Do you know from which city in Norway your ancestor's originated? Also, where in the US did they settle? Mine settled in Chicago.

Bill

My grandfather was John Landgraff and he came to the United States on the USS Gunny with his brother who we believe to be named Gordon. They lived in an orphanage in Norway. The family says they jumped ship. They originally were Landgraf but changed to Landgraff when they came here. I would like to research this family what is your Landgraff connection?
