"Your" great grandfather, William Wallace Landon was born in 1855 in Oregon, Lapeer County, Michigan and he died in 1922 in Genesee County, Michigan. His wife was May Ruth (Fulson) Landon. He had 4 children: Alma Ethel, Wallace Wirt, Morley Earl and Lewis Eugene. His parents were James C Landon and Lydia Catherine (Barlow) Landon. I can go on and on but this is "your" ancestry.

There is a completely difference William Wallace Landon born in 1851 in New York whom you are thinking is your great grandfater, his brother was Edgar Burt Landon - this Landon family is "not" your ancestry. I will try to contact you via ancestry.com so you can look at my tree with full details of your family line.

Regards,
Roslyn spealla@hotmail.com

As far as I know....I'm correct. I have pictures of Morley holding my father as an infant in Harrison, Mi. He and my grandma Amy divorced and he moved to Flint and remarried.Amy remarried also. My relationship is with William Wallace. As I understand it William Wallace and Edgar Burt were brothers.

Are you absolutely sure of your ancestry? I think you have linked your grandfather Morley with the wrong William Wallace Landon. The other and I believe correct relationship is William Wallace Landon born Sep 20 1855 in Lapeer County, Michigan. He was married to Mary R Folsom and had 4 children: Alma, Wallace, Morley and Lewis. I have quite a bit more data if you are interested. Regards, Roslyn

Y-DNA of Landon Carter family

There is a new group on Yahoo with the goal of identifying the Y-DNA of Robert "King" Carter of Virginia.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RKCVA/

Anyone with an interest in this topic is welcome to join.

Robert "King" Carter was married to Judith Armistead and Elizabeth "Betty" Landon. There were many men from this family with the name Landon Carter.

The rule of Y-DNA triangulation is that you have to have matching Y-DNA from direct paternal line descendants of two sons to confirm the father. It has been reported that Robert "King" Carter had four sons who produced grandsons:

- John Carter (married Elizabeth Hill)
- Robert Carter (married Priscilla Churchill)
- Charles Carter (married Mary Walker, Anne Byrd)
- Landon Carter (married Elizabeth Wormeley, Elizabeth Beale)

Matching Y-DNA from direct paternal line descendants of any two of these four sons will give the Y-DNA of Robert "King" Carter.

Dear Sir:

If your last name is Landon, then you could have the YDNA tested through familytreedna.com. This is the best test because a man's dna remanins the same for generations for the same last name (Landon in this case. Is your last name Landon? Do you know someone of your cousins, uncles, grandfather who is alive and carries the last name of Landon?

If your last name is not Landon, but David Landon is one of your ancestors, then you could have the family finder dna test done, but it only shows matches up to 5 generations from the person who submitted it. The other test is the mtdna test, which tests to see if you have a mother in common somewhere along the pedigree.

If your name is Landon (or one of your cousins, etc), I would be glad to help fund a test for you for familytreedna.com. I feel certain that your David is a brother to my John Landon. I believe that their father is William Landon (who married Experience Cooke) and his second wife Catherine. Let me know if I can help you. Sincerely, Laurel Huff

Giuseppe Landoni

Hi, I'm looking for information on Giuseppe Landoni, married to Teresa Pisani. One of his sons Angelo, was born in Gorla Minore, Varese, in 1852 and emigrated to Uruguay before 1878, when he married Teresa Colombo / ao Dionichi / Deoniggi, (doubt the name is that his mother was married 2 times and she sometimes used a surname and sometimes other). I would also like to know about brothers and other relatives of them, it seems that Angelo had a sister Luigia who emigrated to Argentina, and married Luigi Colombo, deellos I have the family tree.
and it seems that Giuseppe had a brother, Antonio Landoni, married to Martina Pagani, who had at least two sons, Giovanni Battista, and Giuseppe, born in Borsano di Busto Arsizio, married to a sister Introini. I have the descendants of them too. I have doubts about whether Angelo's brother Abraham, who married Catherine Canavessi, it is the other branch Landoni in Uruguay, his father was Augustine and his mother Landoni Canalecci CATALINA.
All the data I know if anyone is familiar.

Thank you very much

I finally uploaded my family tree to ancestory.com, while I was in Nashville, TN I met with Jean Landon Wallace who has a lot of correct information on the Landons. Some of which I have as incorrect so I'm trying to get it taken care of.

As part of the family reunion I'm holding this summer I'm doing a commeration of the 150th anniversary of the start of the civil war and have a few of the Landon's that served during that conflict.

Melinda Clem Cooper

Daniel C LANDON

I'm now "into" Y-DNA tracing of ancestors who seem to be in the same haplogroup. From the best of my indicators, my grandfather, Lew Bonner, was the child of Elizabeth Kehler, born in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, in 1847, and died in Clancy, Montana, in 1897. His father is still unknown, but the male DNA matches that of the Landons of Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Kehler married James Bonar/Bonner, in September, 1872, in Lancaster County, Nebraska, but Lew was probably born in April 1870. My father and uncle never knew.

The most likely "candidate" for fatherhood was one George Washington Landon, who lived on the adjacent farm of his father, Daniel C. Landon, in Salt Creek Precinct of Cass County, Nebraska. GW Landon married Laura Coleman in 1874 and had many children by her, until his death in Omaha, in the early 1900's.

I'm searching for any uninterrupted male lines descended from Daniel C. Landon, to see if we can make a match. Please respond if you fit that category.

Dear Sirs:
I to am looking for an Elisha Cooke Landon descendant. I need one who still carries the surname Landon-a male descendant. I believe Elisha Landon is my ancestor's half brother. When Experience Cooke died, William Landon married a lady named Catherine. I think my John Landon and his probable siblings are his children from Catherine. John Landon lived in the area where Elisha Landon and Daniel did in Ohio. Please contact me if anyone knows of a man who still carries the Landon surname and descends from William Landon and Experience Cooke. I have YDNA markers for my John Landon and would like to compare the YDNA markers for a William Landon/Experience Cooke male descendant. I would be willing to pay the cost for him to get his YDNA markers so we could compare. sincerely, Laurel Huff

Re: The Landon Immigrants

David, I have a strong suspicion that I also descend from this same general line of Landons. The closest connection I can document is one Mary Ann Landon Kehler, b. in Tioga County, Pennsylvania in the early 1800's and died in Cass County, Nebraska in the 1880's. One of her daughters, Elizabeth Kehler married James Bonner/Bonar in 1872. Elizabeth Kehler is clearly my great grandmother. The query is who was my great grandfather. The marriage between James and Elizabeth took place in September, 1872, but my paternal grandfather Lew Bonner was born in either 1870 or 1871.

Likely candidates for Lew's father included Martin Luther Coleman, as well as James Bonner, but no direct documentary records are present which would support a strong claim. Since the advent of 37 marker Y-DNA results, however, I can pretty well match my own DNA to the Landon family. That has resulted in a bit of a search for a young Landon male who likely was the father. That has turned up one George Washington Landon, who resided on a farm next door to the Kehlers in Salt Creek Precinct, Cass County, Nebraska with his parents. He was only a year or so younger than Elizabeth, and he didn't get married (to Laura Coleman) until 1874.

It seems likely that Lib married as a "rebound" and never talked about the indiscretion I'll be glad to provide you what I have.

Do you have a history of the descendants of Samuel Landon and Margaret Schulz? Perhaps I can us that as a way to get someone to get their DNA enteredd. Any help you can provide will be appreciated greatly.

Bill

I did find the Genealogical Register of the Village of Litchfield, Ct on Amazon.com and Ebay. But now I am sure I saw pages of this book somewhere in my research -- but where?

Family tradition says that there is some sort of connection with the Landons and Benedict Arnold, yet I have not been successful in finding that link.

Ebenezer was born in Litchfield, CT, in 1760 and died in Sharon Springs, Schoharie, New York, in 1854. Besides CT and NY, he resided in OH and CT. He served as a minute man when Benedict Arnold attacked Fort Griswold. Perhaps there is not a family connection as I had been led to believe. Does anyone happen to have any information on a Landon/Arnold connection?

Hello there,

This may sound a little confusing. My great uncle is Roger Landon. He was married to Catherine Landon (maiden name Mauer) (She passed in 2005)

They had 2 children Kathleen (in her 60's) (married name Inman) and Pat (who has passed).

I remember Roger talking about his sister Sarah and "Grandma Flauding" I actually have a picture of when I was a baby of sitting on "Grandma Flauding's" lap.

Roger has been a grandfather to me. My mother's mother died when she was 1 year old. Catherine was her sister and Roger and Catherine raised my mother together along with their two children Kathleen and Pat.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

Catherine,

I have found the Marcus Durrell Landon's parent's names. Their names were Jesse Landon and Hannah Hoppess. I found them in a census taken in 1925 in the Iowa soldiers home. In the census, they asked what his parent's names were and he knew so he told them. That was the missing link for me. Now I can go back for a long time. Jesse's parents were Ebenezer Landon and Parmelee Clemons. Ebenezer's parent's names were David Landon Sr. and Thankful Dickenson. I also found a newspaper article saying that Ebenezer was in the revolutionary war and while he was at war, he spoke to general Washington.
Jesse Landon was married 3 times, that I could find. He was born in Ohio on Oct. 22, 1794. He married Julia Camp June 22, 1819. She Died July 7, 1841. He married Hannah Hoppess Jan. 11, 1842 and he married Rebecca Miller on March 16, 1849. I have deducted that Hannah Hoppess possibly died during childbirth because Marcus was born about that time. He couldn't take care of him so he gave him to a friend or neighbor to raise. I have found previous census data that said pre-1840 he lived with a woman and 3 younger female and assume these would have been Marcus' 1/2 sisters, but don't know because the names were's mentioned before 1845. Let me know what you think about this information. Send me an email at amleczko@indianheadtel.net.

Hope to talk to you soon.
Amy
