Thank you for your interest in the Landrum Bible. That bible was returned to Wendy Bosserman in Virginia in 2001. It was her grandmothers bible. Her grandmother thought she had lost it in a fire and was very glad to have received it back.

This is our line too -- through William Judson Landrum who married Darthula Almond.

Have you found the anestral line yet for WJ who married Eleanor Fambrough?

We are also trying to find the parents of Labertha Landrum who married TV Almand.

Their daughter is Darthula who married WJ II.

We feel that WJ and Labertha may be related in some way -- but so far haven't found ancestral families for either one.

So far, we haven't been able to tie them to the Thomas Landrum families of Wilkes County -- but understand there was also a Joseph Landrum who came there early on -- perhaps an uncle of Thomas????

Will appreciate any hints or clues or information that you may be able to provide to help get us on back.

Best wishes,

Ardath Brown

Hello, Abner Landrum is listed as the son of Dr. Samuel
Landrum. Abner happens to be listed in the 1820 census of Moore Co. NC...but in both prior and subsequent census in Edgefield.

I am researching Robert Landrum who was born in NC around 1805 or earlier and came to Gibson Co. TN. I am strongly suspecting that Abner the father of Robert as the family reportedly comes from Landrum ,SC, which is in Edgefield Co. SC. Would you happen to have any information on the children of Abner Landrum, son of Dr. Samuel Landrum. Thanks so much and willing to share.

They're made of metal so I know the timeperiod to be approx. 1890 to 1910...they are almost identical...one says..."Sultana, wife of Geo.W & mother of Frederick" and the other, "Frederick, son of Geo. W.& Sultana" reckon these are who you might be looking for?

Does anyone have any info on a George W.(Will or William?) that was married to a Sultana? Im guessing she died in child birth being that theres 2 metal markers just alike, one for Sultana, wife of Geo. W. Landrum & the other, Frederick, son of Geo. W & Sultana. The problem is that the markers are made of metal & the dateplates are missing. They only made metal markers for about 8 or 10 years, approx. 1890 to right after 1900. Ive found a George in the 1910 census stating him being a widower. Help anyone! :)

Hi,Yes, I am still around and still researching. My Landrum line comes from Robert Landrum and wife Lacresia (Lucretia) Wilson. They were in Gibson and Dyer Counties in TN. I have never proven the parents of Robert Landrum and really don't have a good clue. I believe Lucretia Wilson was the dau of Adam Wilson or possibly John of Wilson Co. Robert and Lucretia named their first son Adam as I recall. I will have to dig out my files to double check that. Where was Hiram Landrum living? Both Robert and Lucretia were born about 1800 according to their tombstones.
Virginia Greene vcgreene@att.net

My line is James, Samuel Sr., Lunsford, and then Nancy who married William Hood in Lunenburg County, Virginia.

James Landrum's will was either written or recorded in St. Anne's Parish of Essex County in 1739, and Mary's was supposed to have been recorded in Essex County on 24 May 1754. I've found out the Library of Virginia has the will books on microfilm and that they're available through interlibrary loans. So I'm going to order the ones that include these years and see if I can find the wills.

Now if we could just find some solid proof for the marriage of Samuel Landrum and Hannah Hawkins.... :)

I've still yet to find James Landrum's will, but I did find a sort of abstract of the will of Mary Browne Landrum. Unfortunately, it's just that -- a transcribed abstract, so I've not actually seen a full will for her yet. However, in this will Mary supposedly named "grandson Samuel Landrum" son of her son Samuel who is deceased. She also names "to son, Patrick, land given my husband, James Landrum, by my father, William Brown and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Brown ...." (By naming Elizabeth her mother-in-law, it would seem she was saying Elizabeth Allen wasn't her mother, but her father's wife! These Allen-Browne-Landrum deeds seem to raise more questions than answers, don't they?)

In any case, if Mary's will does contain those phrases, then she did have a son Samuel Landrum, and he in turn had a son Samuel. It appears the son is the Samuel who married Hannah Hawkins and lived in Essex County, Virginia, and the father of Lunsford Landrum and this grandson of Mary's, Samuel Jr. Unfortunately, I've no solid proof (yet!), but I'm still working on it.

So all we really know is that Mary Browne Landrum had sons named Samuel and Patrick, and her son Samuel had a son named Samuel. Maybe one day I'll be able to track down the full will, and that of her husband, James.

Bath county Va Landrums

I am stymied! My G Grandfather was A R Landrum who is buried in Hot Springs, Va. I put down A R as that is what is on his headstone. Census records have his name as Arch, Archibal, Archie and Archer. There are also conflicting ages on those records as well as his headstone reads "1856-1930". If he was born in 1856, none of the ages on the census records is correct. There are also different locations for his birth on those same confusing records. I cannot find Cedar Creek in Bath county as that is his listed location on all of the records. Yes, I am a beginner and this really confuses me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Darrell

It's been a few years since my post. The only thing I can tell you is James Wilson Landrum was a neighbor of my great grandfather in Dyer, Tennessee during the Civil War. The families married into one another, and I have a couple of group pictures taken around 1900 with some names. I was searching the name James Wilson Landrum, because I strongly believe he was conscripted into the Union Army along with my great grandfather in 1864, and stationed at Fort Pillow on the Mississippi River. They both survived the massacre at Fort Pillow. Contact me at uscgrmc@aol.com

Maybe we can help each other.
My great-great grandfather is Hiram Landrum. He was born in Tennessee (not sure what city) around 1844 (several different birthdates on different census records). He married Susan Dowell in Dyer, Tennessee in 1872 and lived in Dyer until at least 1880 where he is listed in the Dyer census of 1880. They moved to Texas sometime between 1880 and 1888 according to census birth records of their children.
We may be able to link James Wilson Landrum and Hiram Landrum.

I just found an old post about the Landrums. You mentioned that Sam Landrum raised someone ( I forgot the name). My Grandfather, GW Landrum had a brother named Sam, and if I remember my family history he did raise this child. My Great Grandmother, Mary Jane was married to a Landrum, I think his name was John or Charles. He was a wealthy land owner and live in Tennessee. I think it was Fayetteville. I can fill in the blanks if you are interested. That man was carried on his father's shoulders the whole two years of the "Trail of Tears" when they were sent to Oklahoma. His wife WAS a FULL BLOODED CHEROKEE iNDIAN ( I am told by my 92 yr. old aunt that she was an Indian Princess, but not 100% sure about that detail.) She had borne him 13 children, but 12 of them died on the "Trail of Tears". Only John( or Charles...I am thinking that was his name) suvived, being carried on his father's shoulders. When this child grew up, he married an Indian and they had many children while living in Oklahoma. Later, he left and moved to Ala. or Tenn. where he married another woman. My memory here goes blank, but Like I said I can supply correct details if you are interested. At one point( don't know if it wass wife # 2 or #3) when a wife died and left him with 13 kids to raise, he put out word he was looking for a young woman to marry him and help with the children) That turned out to be Mary Jane. She was only 16 or 17, but got dressed up and rode on a white horse to meet him. She appeared at his front door and expressed her interest in his proposal. They courted a while and got married. He was gone alot with his land business and she raised all the children.. If I am not mistaken, she gave birth to my Grandfather, GW Landrum, who is my Father, JW Landrum's father. Gw Landrum married Dora Pounders, and they had 13 children, some dying at birth or as babies. My grandfather, GW Landrum was the only photographer in Northern Alabama (they lived in Florence, Al. and later my Dad learned the business as a young boy and eventaully became a very famous photographer and my Mother Kathryn Collier Landrum was his partner in the business. Dad eventaully earned his "Master's" in photography. My Mother & Father are now deceased. If you or anyone gets this message and are interesting in me "filling in the details, after I talk with my Aunt, please feel free to e-mil me, and I will be most happy to help you. Lucretia "CRE" Landrum
