Are you still trying to find information on John and Sally Langdon?
Joseph Langdon and Susan Rediker were my husbands great great grandparents. I do have lot of information on them..
I am currently in the process of trying to find out where to go in New York to obtain more information. I do know that Susan was born in Wayne Co., N. Y. and her mother, Charlotte lived with son, George. She died in 1874 in Porter, Van Buren Co., Mi. Her maiden name was Shannon.
I do not have the death information for her but she is buried in Chamberlin Cemetery in the Rediker family plot.

Carol thank you so much! And yes, you are correct about the state being NC. This is a tremendous help to me! Question..what marriage document did you find that reveals the bride and grooms parents? The one I found only shows the bride and groom's names (Female Index to Marriages, Johnston Co, NC). I am fairly new at this and am still learning. Again, a big THANK YOU! You have made my day!

Jenny,

You didn’t indicate where he was located, but from what I can tell I’m thinking it was North Carolina, right??

I found the following family in the 1900 census in Wilsons Mill, Johnston County, NC, and it indicates that they had been married for 10 years.

Jim Langdon, age 36, born Mar 1864 NC;
Florence Langdon, age 33, born Oct 1866 NC;
Charlie, age 9, born Aug 1890 NC;
Lizzie, age 6, born Jan 1894 NC;
Loula, age 3, born Aug 1896 NC;
Cornelius, age 1, born Jan 1899 NC --

Marriage Record shows:

J. Merriett Langdon married C. Florence Avera;
10 Nov 1889;
Johnston, North Carolina;
Groom’s Father: Merrit Langdon;
Groom’s Mother: Margaret Langdon;
Bride’s Father: A. W. Avera;
Bride’s Mother: Joanna Avera --

Merrit Landon married to Margaret Stephenson, 31 Dec 1856 at the home of Benjamin Stephenson, Johnston County, NC. --

Merritt, appears to be the son of Briton and Winifred Langdon. --

So the James you found living with Briton was the right one, living with his grandparents in 1870. --

It appears Merritt was in the Civil War, enlisting on 15 Jul 1862 into Company C, NC 5th Infantry Regiment. He mustered out on 2 Jan 1863 at Richmond VA. --

Briton Langdon married Winifred Jordan on 5 August 1836 at Johnston County, NC. --

Carol
James Merritt Langdon-who are his parents?

From an obituary that my grandmother, Lula Josephine Langdon Blake, wrote regarding her father's death, Rev J M Langdon, he was born 10 Feb 1863, married Florence Avera 10 Nov 1889 and died 12 Oct 1910. He and Florence had 6 children: Charlie Lafayette, Lizzie M, Lula Josephine, Cornelius Edward, William Bernice and Sarah Gertrude. He was ordained in 1900 and preached at the Benson Free Will Baptist Church till his death in 1910. I can not figure out who his parents were. In the 1870 census there is a James, age 7 living with Britton and Winifred Langdon. In the 1880 census there is a James Langdon living in a different home working as a laborer. Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jenny Madorsky

Could someone help me find my sister-in-laws mother’s sister’s family. She was a war bride and went to live in the States she was married for many years but think she did divorce. She married a Jay Jay Langdon (Langon or Langone - not sure of the spelling of the surname). All of their childrens names began with a J, there was a Jimmy a Jay Jay a Jeff plus other boys I think and a Janet the only girl. They lived in Hathaway Avenue, Haywards California (which I think is near Oakland not far from San Fran, the number was something like 11986 it had a lot of digits. Janet used to send my sister-in-law Avon things when I was a teenager and we lost touch around the time I got married. I don’t have much info apart from that, my aunty probably had the surname Joyce Robertson.

I am related to the Langdon family through my mother who was Margaret Langdon Butts the grandaughter of Julia Langdon Butts Bache mentioned in your reply. I have a posting in History of Luzerne County [Northeast Pennsylvania] on Joseph J.Langdon who is sister of Julia and I assume your Josiah Langdon [lists same parents and siblings]. Also mentions that his brother Albert came to live with him after injuring his arm in the mine.

Julia married Thomas Butts in England in 1870 and emigrated to US in 1872 and after moving around NE PA settled in Plains, PA [small town outside Wilkes-Barre where I was raised] and Thomas worked in the mines [was farmer/laborer in England]. He was killed in mine accident ar age 52.

Julia remarried and lived until 1926 and her obituary mentions she was survived by brother Joseph and sister Mrs. Samuel Way of Plymouth England [must be Rosina].

Interesting that Joseph [came to US 1881], Albert[came in 1886] and Thomas Butts all worked in Henry shaft. It appears that Joseph followed his sister to Plains.

Have picture of Joseph [father]; Julia and of Julia and family [6 children] from 1887.

I was always interested in whether Jervis Langdon from the Elmira area [NY just across border from NE PA] was related to our branch. His daughter Olivia was married in 1870 to Sam Clemens [Mark Twain]

Interested in any information
John Labows [Philadelphia PA] [sister Judy in Plains PA]

Am looking for any information on an Amelia Langdon b. abt 1860 or 1864 in Pennsylvania. Lived likely in Ward 15.

She married John Pugh (or Pue) Henry (b. 1860 in PA, d. 14 Aug 1899 in Trenton, NJ), and resided in Trenton from at least 1891 until her death in 1915. John P. died from injuries sustained in a fire he fought.

Mother to William R. Henry (b. 16 Jul 1891 in Trenton, NJ) and my g-grandfather, John Leroy Henry (b. 19 Apr 1894 in Trenton, d. Mar 1927 in Trenton).

Her mother may have been Mary, and may have been born in England. Nothing on a father.

Hi Jean,
Thanks for the reply.
Still don't know if I am related to this William Langdon.
I got sidetracked, as you do, with helping to find my husbands Gt Grandparents - drawn a blank on both! Her Dad illegitimate, at least his records state that very clearly. Him has just appeared from nowhere, no birth or young census records. Now my brain aches!
Prehaps I can get back to Langdons now. I'll let you know if I'm related.
Sarah.

Hi Heather

After a few yrs of your query sitting here I think Ive found your answer.

James and Sarah Jane Flewellen, after bringing up four boys in Williton - Henry James b.1853, William Langon b.abt 1855, Sydenham James b.abt 1860 and Robert b.1864, Emmigrated to New Zealand with or about the same time as Henry, Sydenham and Robert.

Their surname in most records (official and general) changed to Flewellyn.

William appears to have gone to Victoria, Australia.

James and Sarah Jane died in NZ in 1898 & 1899 respectively.

Sydenham went by the name Sydney James

And as you will probably already know Robert left NZ and move to Australia, Where he married Hilda Blanch Poolman.

Hi,
I'm new to Family Tree research and have just discovered the Message Boards.
My Grandmother was Edith Langdon from Williton, Somerset and I am just starting to put together her side of the family (I started with my Grandfather - Edward Rexworthy). I have information from the parish records at St. Decumens, Williton which includes the marriage of William Langdon to Harriet Poole on 18/12/1821. At the moment I don't know where/if I am related to William Langdon.
I also have some information on Langdon baptisms, marriages and burials from the Old Cleeve parish records, which I'm happy to share with anyone interested.
Sarah.

Hi Derek,
The only material that I have on Jervis was what I included although apparently he was an important component of the underground railway in the 19th century. I was interested because my mother who was a Langdon, always believed that theyu were related to Olivia. I have found that those Langdons must have been in the US decades before ours came in the mid 19th century.
Good hunting.
Stuart

I have a 1783 ancestor named William Clarke who named his second son William Langdon clarke. He was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, USA in 1824.

I have always wondered about the name Langdon and just noticed that there is a township in Essex County, England, called Langdon Hills. And, then, your request for info popped up. Wondered if there could be any connection?
Most of my father's line of Clarke's did not have or retain the "e" on Clark but my father's ancestry line did.

I have all the info I need about Cornelius Langdon and his descendants -- to present, as they relate to our side of the family, (the San Francisco/Oakland branch). I am still having no luck finding his parents or any other ancestors. There are a number of Langdons, as we all know, in NY, Conn, Mass., New Hampshire and Vermont and they are all different families for the most part --- and -- I cannot connect any of them to Cornelius. Has anyone had any luck? This Cornelius Langdon - is not the Cornelius Langdon of the south (North Carolina? I think). That is a completely different family - all together. He is the Cornelius Langdon of Chautauqua, NY, and later, Defiance, Ohio. I have used every resource I can find, beyond the good start that Carole gave me. I am coming up w/ zeros -- I think the gods dropped him from the sky! Thank you for anything you can come up with. Katherine

Hi Greg
Just picked up your message of 2003 to a John ref. your g.g.g grandfather, Joseph Mudford. Iam researching the Langdons of Chiselborough being a descendant of John Langdon 1819-1818 who married Martha Patten 1823.
Martha's mother was Mary Mudford 1784, married to Charles Patten 1795-1833. Mary's father was William Mudford, mother Mary Chant.
Are we speaking of the same family? If so I would love to hear from you if you have info relating to the Langdons. I have managed to get back to John 1650-1732 who married Elizabeth.His father being John 1620,wife Sarah Edwards[there may have been other spouses].at that point I am stuck,can you possibly help please?
My e-mail address is kennethhillairbrady888@btinternet.com
Regards, Ken

I don’t know if you’ll still be able to buy a copy but it’s worth a try - it looks like an interesting history of the Churchbridge area.

If you can’t get in touch with someone in Churchbridge, may you can find a copy on eBay or borrow it through interlibrary loan? There are a couple of copies for sale on Amazon.com but they’re a bit pricey!

Best of luck!

This looks like it might be your Charles, in the 1906 census:
Churchbridge, Assiniboia East, Saskatchewan
Langdon Charles, head, married, age 52, born U.S., immigrated in 1903
Nettie, wife, age 45, born U.S.
Ira, daughter, age 12, born U.S.

There's a book on OurRoots called:
The First Hundred Years: Around Churchbridge 1880-1980.
On page 201 it says "My grandparents, Charles and Lottie Everett, came to the Churchbridge area in 1903 by train from Kalamazoo, Michigan with their family. .. . The family was accompanied by Charles' father, Moses Everett, and a brother-in-law, Charles Langdon, whose wife followed later. The Langdons remained for a few years and then returned to the States."

I haven't found Charles and Nettie Langdon in the 1911 or 1916 censuses in Saskatchewan, and it looks like they were back in Michigan by 1920.

Hi Sylvia, I am researching the Langdon family tree from Montreal Canada and Edgerton Landgon who was an uncle of Louise Norton - I am trying to trace or locate brothers or sisters of Edgerton. I believe they are from Scotland.
Do you have any information?
Thanks,
Robin

I hope you found the information you were looking for. I live in St. Joseph County, Michigan and the County Courts Building is located in Centreville, Michigan. I am related to the Langdon's who came from Wayne Co, NY. I have not been able to make a connection with your William Langdon. I have a lot more research to do, maybe he will show up.... Good Luck. 269-435-8380 itsme@voyager.net if you need to contact me.
