Hi my name is Diana langford Jones and I live in North Wales UK . My ancestors are in the North Wales area in the 1700's and haven't yet found any that emigrated. Best of luck with your research. My father and my brother both died young so I don't have a close male relative to ask to do the DNA test - although I guess I could ask one of my surviving uncles. I think it would be interesting to find out more !
kind regards
Diana

Do you have a copy of Ruby Langford Pearson's notes from the family Bible? I would love to have that as well as the article. Ruby married George Pearson and had two children: Kenneth and Martha. In 1920 The Pearsons lived next door to Rufus Madison and Edna in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. Edna was his second wife and outlived him by many years. Edna died in 1963 at the age of 103.
In 1880 Rufus Madison is living in Jefferson County, Alabama and working in the mines. Nettie and Mamie, two of his sisters are living with him and he is listed as head of household. Nettie (I assume that this is America Antoinette) is listed as "sister" and is keeping house.

Although my last name is not Langford I seem to match an awful lot of Langfords at Family Tree DNA. I cannot trace my direct paternal lineage past my grandfather and he wasn't sure what his father's name was since both of his parents died the year he was born. I match 61 out of 67 markers with people descended from an Eli Langford from Virginia who was born in the 1700s. Ironically my paternal line is in Canada. I wonder if there were any Langford Loyalists who fled to Canada after the American Revolution?

Rufus Madison LANGFORD had his daughter, Ruby, copy the handwritten entries from the Langford family bible. I don't know what happened to the actual bible. But she wrote a short article about those handwritten entries. She was married to George PEARSON. I assume the Martha you mentioned was George and Ruby's daughter. (Wow! I never thought of looking for information about the LANGFORDs from the DAR.) ***

The last child of Champ LANGFORD (Jr.) and Elizabeth Jane HAGOOD was Mary, born Jul 1870. I suspect Elizabeth Jane died in child birth. Because shortly after that, Champ went West and the children were raised by the HAGOODs. A lady and her teenage daughters joined a wagon train in St. Clair County, AL. I suspect Champ also joined that wagon train. Because the teenage daughters were married in Jonesboro, AR. Champ also ended up in Jonesboro, AR. He applied for a Confederate pension there. He worked there. Much of Champ's femur (leg bone) was shot away in the Civil War. In the 1870 U.S. census in Jefferson County, AL he was working as a domestic servant. In Jonesboro, AR he worked on the John McDANIEL farm as a bee keeper. He's buried there in the McDaniel Cemetery. ***

The information I have on Rufus Madison, spouses, children & descendants is rather sketchy. Could you fill me in?

Hi! It is so neat to learn more about your own family. Thanks for explaining the Giles - Langford connection. I hope that among all of us who are interested, we can find the information that takes us back further than the War of 1812 with Champ Langford. Martha Cross, my father's first cousin, had more information I believe, but she died several years ago and I don't know how to reach her son at this time. Martha was the only female grandchild of Rufus Madison Langford and Jennie Eakens. I believe that she was a member of the DAR, but haven't pursued that line yet. Her maiden name was Pearson, and around 1920 She and her family lived next door to Rufus Madison and Edna (2nd wife) in Starkville.

Hi cousin. *** Of the 6 children of Champ LANGFORD and Elizabeth Jane HAGOOD, the only ones to survive to adulthood were Rufus and Nettie. (Terressa Isadorah and Louisinda Jane died 3 days apart in 1864, William Felix died in 1887 when he fell off of a roof onto a stone fence, Mary was 10 years old in the 1880 U.S. census. I never found her again after that.) ***

America Ananette "Nettie" LANGFORD and Nathanial Thomas GILES, my G-grandparents, were married in McCainville, Sumter County, AL in 1885 in the home of Rufus Madison LANGFORD and Susan Jane EAKENS. Their first child, Mary Elizabeth, and her husband, Joseph Winborn VAUGHAN, were my grandparents, Their first child, Clara Elizabeth "Libby", was my mother. ***

Mary, my grandmother, told my two 1st cousins that her mother, Nettie, was an Indian. (I haven't documented that.) Nettie's braids were cut off before she was buried and one of my 1st cousins has those braids.

Rufus Madison was my GGrandfather, Rufus Minor Sr. my grandfather, Rufus Minor Jr. my father. When I saw Rufus Minor Giles mentioned in one of the board listings, I thought there might be a connection because of the St. Clair County connection. So, yes, I am related to the Giles family through Rufus Madison and his sister, America Antoinette (sp?). She must have been my great aunt, and you must be my cousin.

Jane Langford - born Dorset abt 1886

I am looking for any relatives of Jane Langford, born about 1886, daughter of John Langford who was a railway employee. In September 1906, Jane married Duncan MacKintosh - he was in the army at the time. I rather suspect they divorced as there was no mention of her on his death cert. Can anyone help?

Looking for marriage date/info on my ggrandmother/father Emily R. Brannon(1843, GA) and her second? husband, Albert G Langford(1810, District of Columbia). Albert G was son of Richard Langford and Amelia Soper. Emily R. was CSA widow(1862) of Samuel J Murdock; they were married in Macon Co. AL in 1859. She and Albert G. were married and living in Floyd Co, Ga by 1880 census. Her aunt, Emeline Brannon was Albert G Langford's 1st wife; they are listed in Macon Co Al on 1860 census. I am assuming that Albert G and Emily R Brannon(Murdock) married in Macon Co sometime after his first wife's death. Thanks for any info you may be able to provide.

Your Champ Langford is more likely a contemporary of John "Jack" Langford, rather than his son. The son of John "Jack" had six children with Nancy Ann Jones. Amanda, William, John, Hillery C., Reuben/Rubin and Harriet Ann.
I am curious about your Champion, his birthplace and other details, as Rufus is common to John "Jack's" family, as he had a brother named Rufus Wiley. Descendants of John "Jack", Rufus Wiley and others share a common genetic Haplotype, I1, formerly I1A, http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Langford/default.aspx?se....
Paula

Champion LANGFORD was my GGG-grandfather. The earliest info I have on him was serving in the War of 1812 in Haywood County, NC. He married there and moved to St. Clair County, AL. That's where he died on 5 Oct 1833. He had 1 son, Champ Jr. .... Of Champ Jr's 6 children, only 2 survived to adulthood, my G-grandmother and Rufus Madison LANGFORD. Rufus married Susan Jane EAKENS. .... I don't recognize the names of your LANGFORDs.
