I have been researching all of the famiies you mentioned. I am direct descendant of Richard Clark as well as John Mattingly. I've researched many Grayson County famiies ie. Clark, Mattingly, Whitfill, Portman, Pearl, Conder, Milner, Milliner and many others. I've been at it for over 45 years now. I would be interested in any photos you could scan and e-mail. I live in Louisville. Maybe I could help you with something. I have thousands of family charts and many records. Tell me if there is anything you would like or if I can help. I consider myself a professional genealogist with my experience and a degree in history. I of course never charge for anyone related to me or who are working on my family lines. I would be pleased to share info with you.
Daniel J. Kelty

Langleys from England in Norfolk VA, starting approx. 1635

Hello Everyone,

I have traced my line of Langleys to William Langley, born 1618 (some sources say 1620) in England, and died in 1676 in Norfolk Virginia. He was married to Joyce Clement, born 1621 died 1680 (both in Norfolk Virginia). I know that this William Langley was an immigrant, arriving about the age of 14 or 15.

The problem I am running into, is tracking the line into England. I have found several conflicting names and dates linked to this man, with no way of knowing which is correct. Does anyone have any information that could help me locate my ancestors even further?

It would be greatly appreciated.

Rex Langley
langley_rex@yahoo.com

Langleys in Norfolk VA

Hello, I am new to ancestry.com and I have been researching my Langley family line for over a year now. I have traced my line of Langleys to those that lived in Norfolk VA, starting with William Langley (b. about 1618-d. about 1676) married to Joyce Clements. I have tried to go beyond that but I have found a lot of conflicting information about this line of Langleys in England before they came to America. I have created a public tree called Langley Family Tree, and I have added what I have found so far, but I dont feel that it is accurate since I have found a lot of different names and places. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Rex Langley

I wanted to share the following newspaper article with anyone who is researching the Isaac & Philpene Langley family of Monroe County Indiana. The following letter from their son William was printed in the Bloomington Republic Progress:
"A Little Family History. Hinesborough, Ills., Sept. 24, 1883" "Mr. Editor - I promised my mother to write and tell of our reunion in Monroe co. on Sunday, Sept. 16th. We met at brother Isaac's. Six of us boys present: Joe, Tom, Bill, Ike, George and Wes; none of the girls were present.
Joseph has been married twice and has had 14 children-2 dead. His age is 53 years. J.T. Millie, married has had five children-three dead. His age is 51. Fifty-nine grand children and seventy great grand children. Phil P. Langley was born in 1817 in east Tennessee, and came to Indiana about the year 1838. He is now 71 years old. Father died in Jasper co., Ills., March, 1874 of lung fever. Joseph and Millie were born in east Tenn. The rest of the 14 were born in Monroe co., Ind. Joe enlisted in the 50th Ind. and was badly wounded. Tom, Bill and Ike were in Co. H. 18th Ind. Out of the six boys present the other Sunday, five were Republicans, Ike being as his father, a Democrat.
Mr. Editor, for fear of the waste basket I will close by saying I got my first copy of the Progress yesterday. I am Respectfully yours, Wm. L. Langley"

I have typed it as it was printed-with typos. I hope this post will help other's researching the Langleys.

I have completed DNA tests that tie me to a family surname of Kearney of Balla several properties from the Peter Langley address in Balla listed in the Griffin Records. My ancestor named Jane Langley ORourke moved to Mayo after her husband was tried and sent to AUS for a crime, she joined her husband many years (eighteen years)later. I have a baptism record held in the family that confirms my great grandfather was baptized in Newport, Mayo in 1814. Tom O'Rourke

I know that two Walton Sisters married to Langley Brothers. The Benjamin Franklin Langley group settled in Arkansas and the Andrew Jackson Langley in Texas. Lonnie Langley finally settled in Texas, also. Now I have the Waltons traced back to Eli and the boggan wife to Ireland and then England. The Langley is a mystery. They supposedly have cherokee blood and they have dark complexion. Where is it? Now if you follow the cherokee trail of tears down the Tennessee Route through you reach Shelby County Alabama where these two brothers came. In 1795, that trail of tears was walked to East Texas and they named that reservation Alabama Coushatta. The 100% native American ritual dancers I met doing research had Langley as an adopted name since Natives must carry one. I can't figure out where the originally Cherokee Langley comes in. I think it may be a Native American escaping the trail of tears by marrying a Langley somewhere in Alabama around 1795. It may be a male ( after adopting Langley name) cherokee marrying a white (that's unlikely)

Charles, your note detailed the Langley line I am researching, and I would like to ask you a number of questions. You are the only one I have heard from in 30 years who seems to know the origins of that Langley line prior to 1800. My father told me years ago the ancestory was English, Irish, and Scottish. I am also interested in the records you gave to the Georgia Archives. My records have it that your g-grandfather Miles (Jefferson) was the son of Thomas T. Langley, who was the son of a Thomas and Nancy? Langley. I have thought that this last Thomas came from North Carolina, but have been unable to verify. PLEASE contact me at the above e-mail, or phone 214 341-5462.

Linda, I'm Chas. H. Langley, Loganville, Gwinnette County, Ga. My Father Robt. Emmett LANGLEY spent years searching the LANGLEY family ancestry. In 1967 I carried a pick-up truck load of letters and files to the State Of Ga. Archives Bldg. in Atlanta. I can say that they were English, Irish and Scotch ancestry. They came to Virginia in 1700s, landed in Virginia, then to North Carolina, then to Georgia. Some went on to Texas, but most returned to Ga. My Grandfather was Thomas Langley, G.GrandfatherMiles Langley. Most settled in Gwinnette County, Georgia. I have a sister that married a
LIGON, from Colo. I think. Any relation?
