Hi,
So,to send me your email..click on my name on this post and then when it opens, click on view my profile..then you can send a message to me through ancestry. It says contact eglanglois on the upper right side of the screen.
That will be the best at first because my email is through hotmail and sometimes they block new senders.

I did find abit more info but "my other life" besides genealogy is calling!!!!

Arthur Langlois married Marie Louise Beauvais on 20 Nov 1898.
Arthur was born on 10 May 1878.
Marie Louise was born on 26 Mar 1875.

I came across his parents and will email all to you when I have your address.
That is the correct spelling for Marie Louise's name..with a v not an n.Found out when I saw the record of their marriage.
Haven't found a death record for Emilenne..but the Drouin collection only goes to 1967 and you mentioned that she died in the 1990's.
Now,there is the Canada Obituary Collection but when I tried to look this morning, the Drouin came up..try another way I suppose!
I have an alert on for Langlois because that is my married name.My husband was born in the Gaspe region of Quebec.
Enough for now,
I'll be in touch,
Elaine

Hi,
Well,I've found some info.
For the births, marriages and deaths, the place to look is
called Quebec Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection)
1621-1967.

So,I found at that site that Charles and Emilenne married in 1928.Their parent's names are on the document.
Arthur Langlois and his wife Marie Louise Beaunais? or Beauvais? Very hard to make out that fifth letter.
Gephine (Gephir?) Goyette and his wife Ann----can't make out the last name.

However, furthur searches in the 1901 and 1911 Canada census probably will reveal her maiden name.Or their marriage in the above collection. Also, birth for Emilenne.

Charles was born in 1907 and has a middle initial H.
Found him in the 1911 census. Now that you have the parent's names, you can look too. Also, the family is in the 1901 census with two kids.
So,that's a start.
I found the info on Ancestry.com.Are you a member?
If not,I saved the info to my shoebox and if you give me your email address,I can send the info. Most has email app.
Elaine

Did you ever come up with anything on Abraham? We believe his son Abraham married our Tobiatha SMELSER in Knox County, IL and had a son Nicholas. Tobiatha apparently dies within 2 years of marriage and Nicholas remarries. Would love to work this one some more. We see the name of LANGLOSS listed in the Knox County marriages list. However, not sure.

Hi!

It seems that I can only contact you through the message board. Oh well.

Thanks for responding to my query. I would very much appreciate any information you can get from your parents. Please pass along my thanks to them as well.

My paternal grandmother was an ARBOUR (from Ontario) and I now collect information on all ARBOURs everywhere. I know you are not part of our family, but an interesting note is that over 95% of all ARBOURs in North America descend from one immigrant ancestor, Michel ARBOUR, who came from France in 1665. He is responsible for over 25,000 known descendants. I am trying to find every last one of them.

No, I do not live in Canada but Arizona. My father left Ontario at the age of 17.

Thank you again for your help!

Shannon :)
I have located a photo for the Langlois French coat of arms listed under Guillium Langlois. Unfortunately the size of the photo prohibits reading the family motto on the top of the crest. The coat of arms has a white background with blue and silver.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jennifer,
We're both busy I know but I just thought of this great Canadian site.By the way,I live right above you in British Columbia!! The web site is www.islandnet.com/~cghl
There is plenty to explore!
Also, when I first looked at the 1930 census for Seattle,I couldn't make out all the words where the country of Mary Isabella's father was born! I saw the first word was Irish..
later I looked again and realized it said Irish Free State.
That could be helpful too eh?
Now,I'll give you my email address and you can decide if you want to continue on this message board that's fine with me. eglanglois@hotmail.com
I attempted to find a Ellen McCarthy sailing from P.E.I. to Boston...well,I found quite afew..none with a parent so I don't know which one she is!There were afew Marys as well..her name could be Mary Ellen or the names are interchangeable or Ellen is a form of Mary!
For now,I'll run along and see about supper! That life calling thing eh????
Elaine

Hi Elaine,

I know what you mean about life calling.

Thanks for the infor.

You are too funny. My mom gave me a bunch of papers to look at and got to copy today. Guess what I came across....
A "Sarah" who died at the home of her niece!!!! The obit also says Sarah has a nephew William T Coughlin....

This is from 1912.... It also says Sarah was born at Charlotte Parish, Prince Edward Island. She came to Seattle from Boston, Mass, after the death of her husband in 1910. So well atleast I know when "Aunt Sarah" ended up in Seattle. And that I had a great great Aunt Sarah. And for sure a Great Great Uncle William.

Atleast it seems so.

And with the info you found...

I think I hear a wall crumbling.....

Well on to check your link....

Then some shut eye...

Thanks for the help tonight. Gracias!!!!

I will be doing much reading of several papers I copied from my mother too....

More later.

Jennifer

Well..we hit the jackpot..well two so don't know which one is your Ellen!!!!!
Because there are two Ellens aged 16...
Now,I found them on the 1881 Canadian census. If you go to this site www.familysearch.org you will see the word census on the left hand side.
Living in Kings,Prince Edward Island are:
Martin McCarthy 47 yrs. farmer b. P.E.I
A.Mary " 45 b. """"
Rosanna 14 b. P.E.I
James 11 """""
Sarah 11 """""
Ellen 16 """"
M. Ann 8 """"
Thomas 6 """"
Martin 4 """"
William 1 """""
They are Catholic. Martin is a farmer.

Second family:
Eugain McCarthy 68yrs. b. in Ireland He is a farmer.
Bridget 60 b. in P.E.I. Their kids are all born in P.E.I.
Ellen 16yrs.
Gundeline 30
Margret 20
Mary 18
Maurice 28 He is a joiner.
Charles 26 He is a farmer.
Peter 24 """"""""""""
They are Catholic.
So,due to the two Ellen's still single and living at home..they can't be the Mother to Catherine unless the birth dates are wrong by afew years.

Ellen born in Canada..I first found that out on the family search site!!!
If we could find Ellen's death date on a site or a certificate then it would have where she is born!
For tonight,I'll run along...my life is calling me!!!!!
I'm REALLY enjoying helping you!!! I know all about brick walls...I've smashed through afew major ones in the past few months!!!
Elaine

Wow.... I am wondering too about where Ellen was born, because I have not been able to confirm that she was born in Canada. But all our stuff says she was including our death certificate for Mary Langlois.

http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/ViewRecord.aspx?RID=6EDF1B...

Mary Langlois - Calvary Cemetery - Timothy Coghlan - et al. - Washington State Death Records
Record Series: Death Records
Collection: Washington State Death Records
County: Statewide

Da Reference Number: {588D9BDA-3A10-43DD-B847-B9BC506EB6D4}
Image Number: 1464
Document Number: 528
Document Reference Id: 519
Name: Mary Langlois
Date Of Death: 10 Feb 1931
Age: 44
Gender: Female
Race Or Color: White
Place Of Burial: Seattle, King, Washington
Burial Year: 1931
Cemetery Name: Calvary Cemetery
Father Name: Timothy Coghlan
Father Birth Place: Ireland
Mother Name: Ellen Mccarthy
Mother Birth Place: Canada
Additional Relatives:
Batch Id: 276552
Batch Locality: Washington, United States
Burial Date: 13 Feb 1931
Death Place: Seattle, King, Washington
Mother Name Gn: Ellen
Mother Name Surname: Mccarthy
Residence: Seattle, King, Washington
Spouse Name: Edward Langlois
Street Address: 943 24th St

I do think that Mary Isabella had more siblings, like you mentioned...

I do think this Catherine Mary Coughlin is another sister.

So we have Catherine Mary born in 1880
we have William Francis born in 1882
we have Mary Isabella born 08/13/1886
and
we have a Timothy born in 1895

I am not entirely sure if Timothy J and Ellen A (Mccarthy) Coughlin lived in Canada before entering the US or not.

Timothy J, I think came to the US with a brother. I think I may have found his brother's name might be Patrick. Still checking.

We just came back from dinner.

Doing some more digging....

Will send more info in a bit.

Jennifer

Hi Elaine,

My grandmother was Catholic, if that is any help to you. She grew up not knowing any family. Hence the reason we have been trying to find family for years...

She just passed away on June 30th...

Definitely Ellen was born in Canada. We have papers stating that.

But we don't know where (Or I have not seen them yet, my mother is bringing me some doc's to review... Hopefully I will find some more clues. Please keep your fingers crossed for me) or what line yet.

I too wish I knew the nicknames for some of these lines...

We didn't have a clue that we were Irish until we found a document after my grandma's passing with my now great grandparents names on them... I don't even think my grandma knew she had it....

Thanks for the web - site. I have not found this one yet...

I will check it out.

Jennifer

Just a thought here before I search again....my husband told me that kids who were baptised into the Catholic faith
took Mary or Joseph as their first name.Could they have been Catholic? Or May/Mary was baptised as a young girl?
By the way,do you know if Ellen who married Timothy was definely from Canada? I ask because I have come across Timothy Coughlin married to a Margaret McCarthy but her place of birth isn't Canada.Perhaps Ellen is short for Margaret...wish I knew the nicknames for people!!!! What is Timothy's brother's name? Do you ever go on the www.labs.familysearch.org site? It can be helpful.
Elaine

Hi Elaine.

Wow! Yes, I think William could be a brother to Mary Isabella...

I know that Mary Isabella and Edward were married for a longtime. I have determined that somehow during their married time their name was somehow changed from Longley to Langlois...

Also Edward changed his last name back to Longley after Mary Isabella died in 1931 in Seattle, Washington.

Mary Isabella died 02-11-31.

I also found out for sure that Edward and Mary's daughter was born as May Cecilia Longley and not Mary Cecilia... so strange... My grandma always grew up knowing her name was Mary Cecilia...

I have looked at the 1930 census, I think... not sure now. I have looked at so many documents in past couple days. need to go back and find it again...

Found out about Timothy's migration last night as a matter of fact. Was with a brother into the US in mid-late 1800's, but haven't got much further. Had to sleep for a bit...

Knowing that my great grandmother had a brother is awesome!!!! Thank you.... That is more than we knew before!

Jennifer

Hi again,
One more thing I found on the family search site:
William Francis Coughlin born 18 June 1882 in Boston
Father: Timothy Coughlin
Mother: Ellen
Could William be a brother to Mary born 13 Aug. 1886?
I'm still looking for further info. No,I'm not related but I have an alert for the name Langlois.I married a Langlois from Quebec.
One interesting note from the 1930 census where they ask how many years married for the person's first marriage.
Both Edward and Mary Longley say twenty something years....I wonder if they both were married before???? Could Mary have married a Langlois before she married a Longley??? I'll have to look at the 1930 census again! Have you looked at it?
What did you find out about Timothy's immigration to the US?
I read that his wife was a Canadian..if correct..do you know which province???
Enough for now!Oh,most sites have Coughlin/Coughlan as the spelling!
Elaine

Hi Elaine,

Oh my yes!!!! You have a direct hit!!!! The date of when Mary Langlois died is off by one date by our family info. She passed on 02-11-31 according to our Washington State Records and the Cemetery records here at the Calvary Cemetery on NE 35th in Seattle, WA. (I live in Burien, WA next to Seattle.)

We just lost Mary Cecilia too. 06-30-2010... (my grandma)

May I ask how you are related???

I too have noticed last night alot of different spellings...

have been also longing for a direct hit like this for months!!!

I found last night Timothy's immigration papers, I think... not totally sure yet..

Hi there,
I have an alert on Ancestry.com for the name Langlois.I married a Langlois from Quebec.
Now,I hit a mini jackpot for your Mary on Ancestry and on family search.
1930 Federal US census for Seattle,Wa.
Edward Longley 48yrs.b.Minnesota carpenter
Mary Longley wife 44 yrs. b.Boston,Mass
May Longley dau. 5 yrs. b.Wa.
On the labs.familysearch.org site
Mary Langlois (spouse Edward Langlois)
died on 10 Feb.1931
born Aug.13,1886 Boston,Mass
Buried in Calvary Cemetery,washington state
Her parents were: Timothy Coghlan (b. Ireland)
Ellen McCarthy (b. Canada)
There is a Joseph Louis Langlois on the family search site and afew more details.Could Leo and Louis be the same person?
I know from our experience that the name Langlois can be misspelled in MANY ways!! I've seen Langlais,Langwah,Longwah etc.
Also,on the 1920 census there are quite afew Longleys listed.Perhaps Mary's grandmother being born in Canada is a clue. It's very late but tomorrow,I'll search our Canadian census and see what else I can find for you.I love smashing down brick walls!!!
Elaine

That could be. Good idea to check census records. Not sure how to go about that...

Yes, WA is short for Washington (Washington State, that is), sorry for the confusion on that. I get used to abbreviating forgetting people are from all over the world... Apologies.. :)

It could be it was originally Langlois before her parents and it was changed to Longley and then changed back to Langlois when she was 12. We (my mom and I) found a document that at age 12 her name was legally changed to Langlois in order to keep her from her father.

Regards,

Jennifer

You mentioned previously she was raised by an Ann Langlois and had an uncle called Leo Langlois. Perhaps she was born a Langlois and someone changed the name in the interim, only to have it changed back.

Have you checked the census records?

Being from Australia I am not familiar with the shortened versions of U.S States. When you say WA do you mean Washington. In Australia 'WA' is short for Western Australia.

Regards

Michael

Eugenie Surget Langlois - Guernsey and Devon

Hi...I am embarking on some research for my father who has very few details of his family. I am looking for any information you may have concerning Eugenie or her family.

I believe she was born in 1880s (possible in France) but was certainly living in Guernsey as a young child. She married a William Ernest Chamberlain in Guernsey in the first decade of the 1900s before they left the island to give birth to their first child in 1913 in Plymouth.

Any information or suggestions gratefully received.

The surname 'Langlois'

If anyone out there searching parish records in the greater London area, particularly Westminster, Camden or surrounding parts of London, come across the surname Langlois in any records I would appreciate a 'heads up'.

I can only go back to the middle 1700's in the Camden area, (a Pierre or John Peter Langlois who was a renowned Ebeniste, French Cabinetmaker). His death was recorded in St Pancras Parish Church in 1767, his wife Tracey in 1781 and all his chidren were married in St Pancras Parish Church. His grandchildren were baptised in Percy Chapel in the 1770-1780's. This was a very rare name in London at that time and it would appear most of the names derived from one or two families who settled on the western side of London in either the late 1600's or early 1700's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

The individual for whom Langlois Oregon is named was William Valpied Langlois, who was born in Guernsey, Channel Islands around 1811. He was married to Mary King. I believe Gallier married one of his daughters.

I have the family traced back to the mid-1600's on Guernsey, but I have to re-enter all the data, as my computer died some time back. I'll try to do that, and send it to you.

Best,

Steve Langlois
