Thank you. I have obtained a copy of this death certificate. Apparently Nancy married an unknown Bryant between the 1870 census (when she was with her parents) and 1874 when she married James Hodges Lanier. or other records are faulty in identifying her as Nancy P. Bryant.

I know for certain that my father Hilary Lanier Donellan is the grandson of John Lanier and Jeanette Lyon. His mother was their eldest child, Ellen Laura Lanier, who married James Anthony Donellan in Pearl River Mississippi in December of 1918. My great-grandmother Jeanette Lyon Lanier, died at a very young age and her husband John was left to care for very young children who were parceled out to relatives when it became too much for John to handle. The trail grows cold for me there, and I cannot find anything else about John Lanier or about Jeannette (?)Lyon. (I find two variations of spelling for her first name.)Thank you for responding. Perhaps there is some connection to the HIlery Lanier of whom you wrote. I wondered if there was some ancestor with the name "Hilary" or variation of spelling "Hilery" for whom my Dad was named. He didn't know.

The previous post now is in error. In the 1900 Census there is John Lanier born Nov. 1876 in Hickory Flat, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, single, living with parents.
In the same census we have John Lanier born Nov. 1878 living in New Orleans with the parents of Jeanette Lyon who he married 27 May 1899 in Orleans Parish.

Since your father is Hilary Lanier Donellan, he is probably a descendant of Hillery Lanier born 1780 in Georgia but not from the John Lanier in my previous post.
