Eldon M. Lansford died on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at his home in Chattanooga, Tennessee just three weeks short of his 97th birthday.

Born in Catoosa County, Georgia, in 1912, he enjoyed an active independent life, even driving to church and civic events until recently.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Edens Lansford, to whom he was married for 67 years; his parents, Mary Ellen Graham Lansford and M. Warren Lansford; and brothers, Ottis and Selwyn Lansford.

Interested in genealogy, Eldon could trace his ancestors from Virginia in 1672 to John Bunyon Lansford’s move to a farm in Catoosa County in 1871.
His mother’s family moved to Catoosa County in 1853.

He is survived by a brother, Maj. Breen Lansford (USMC Ret), of Lake Como, Fla.; a son, Eldon B. Lansford and daughter-in-law, Michele’ Flynn Lansford, of Stafford, Virginia; a daughter, Dr. Zelma Lansford; one granddaughter, Victoria Lansford; grandson-in-law, Chris Balch, and great-grandson, Skyler, of Atlanta; a nephew, Graham Sisson, of Ringgold, Sandy Lansford Smith, of Powersville, Ga.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He also is survived by sisters-in-law, Dolores Edens and Melvia Edens; and brother-in-law, Ray Edens, all of Chattanooga.

He was a 1930 graduate of Ringgold High School and a graduate of Edmonson Business College.
He served four years in the Marine Corps retired in 1977 from Burkart Schier Chemical Company and GAF Corp.

He joined Burning Bush Baptist Church in 1925, then moved to First Baptist Church at Rossville in 1941 where he was ordained a deacon and remained active until the time of his death.

On June 7, 2008, he was honored for 75 years as a Master Mason and presented a plaque and apron by Ted Collins, Grand Master of all Masons in Georgia. Lansford became a Mason in Quitman Lodge 106 in Ringgold on June 1, 1933 and later transferred to the Rossville Lodge 397 F&AM where he served as worshipful master in 1989 and as chaplain until December, 2008.
He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and the Alhambra Shrine where he served as an officer for more than a decade in the Friday Luncheon Club.

He was a past president of the Tri-State Rose Society and took great pleasure in his more than 300 rose bushes, winning many blue ribbons and silver awards in local rose shows. He was also a member of the Catoosa County Historical Society, the Half Century Club and the Cedar Hill Improvement League.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Rossville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Williams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

Interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery with Masonic Rites performed by Rossville Masonic Lodge 397 F&AM. Trumpeter, Pat Armstrong will play the Marine Hymn.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.

Was Orville your father? Clara A. Drummond was the daughter of William Harrison Drummond and his first wife Edith Jane Ellis. I have no information on Clara, other than she was born 8 Sept. 1883 and married Rhodolphus D. Landsford at 16 years of age on the 8th day of May, 1901 in Douglas Co. IL. I have a lot of info from her father on back...very little on her mother. My husband's family descends from William Harrison's second wife, Mary Matilda Zike. If I can be of any help, let me know. I have a marriage record from Lauderdale, AL of a marriage between Parmelia Anderson and Samuel (Alexander) Lanceford (believe it is supposed to be Lansford. Marriage date 7 Sep 1842. Found in Alabama Marriage Collection, 1800-1969. Later children include Elizabeth, Josephine, Korah, Samuel Eliza, Horace, Susan Eugenia and Letitia Lansford.

Would like to exchange information with anyone working on this line.

These are on the 1850 Putnam co., VA. census. Charlotte Jane Lansford married Thomas Erwin Jr and had 2 sons in VA., James & Louis/Lewis Erwin. Would like to find Charolette & Eliza's father's name and their mother's maiden name. The girls were born abt 1830 and 1834 in VA.

"I don't know when your Eliza Lansford was born but I am seeking one who married a Booker M. HARRIS on Jan. 10, 1853 and had 6 children. They were in Southern IL (Fayette, Marion, Effingham Counties) and then went to MO where they appeared in the 1880 census in Franklin Twp probably Newton Cty.
I am also seeking another Lansford that married into the same family (kind of). Her name was Amanda and she married a William Nathan Neavill in 1858 in Newton Cty, MO. I say they were related because after Eliza Lansford Harris died, Booker married Mary Lambert who had been married to Enoch Neavill in Effingham Cty, IL." Please contact me direct.

in the October, 1850 Federal Census as follows:

Samuel Lansford, Male. Age: 30 born in Alabama
Amelia A. Lansford, Female. Age 30 born in Kentucky.

Children:
Elizabeth age 7. Born in Alabama
Josephine age 4. Born in Mississippi
Korah? (Difficult to read) age 1. Born in Mississippi

Different wife, but Elizabeth and Josephine are correct. Curious????

James William Garrett, b 28 sept 1860, Marion Co.,IL, m 10 Feb 1887 to Barbara Ellen Lansford b 12 May 1865, d 16 Apr 1935, Marion Co., IL (Father Lemuel Jackson Lansford-Mother Sarah Elizabeth Holt). The only child I have listed for them is:
Mamie M. Garrett, b 11 Feb 1901, Marion Co., IL d 21 June 1946, Marion Co., IL m Clyde C. Basset.... Could be part of the family...

Robert W. Prewett was born in 1832 in Madison Co. Ala. His wife was Elizabeth L. born in 1848. I think they met in Jackson's Cavalry Division Hospital at Old Marion Mississippi during September and October 1863. Does anybody have any information about who Elizabeth L. was and who her folks were? Or does anybody have information about Old Marion Mississippi's marriage records?

Just came across your message on Rootsweb regarding Henry Lansford and Judith Rainey asking about Henry's family.

If you go to our website at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~familyofours/ .

Under the Lansford surname you need to click on Henry- born 1777. This will show you information back through his grandfather, Henry (I). We have not been able to track back any further.

We do have a William Lansford (of Neston) leaving Bristol Port for Virginia between 1654 and 1663 acording to The book "Bristol to America 1654-1685". We hope to get to Richmond in the next year orso to search records for William.

There is also other Lansford info and pictures on the website.

We would appreciate any information on Judith Rainey's ancestors you would care to share with us. Her family can be added to our site if you desire.

My Lansford family was also from Kinmundy - Lemuel Jackson Lansford was the one who moved from Fayette County to Marion County. Prior to that the Lansfords came from Pittsylvania Co, VA. I'd be happy to trade info with you - I'm sure there's a connection.

He married Judith Rainey 11/29/1804 in Oglethorpe Co., GA., possibly b. in VA.

They had a daughter, Marian McHenry Lansford who married Joseph Miller Grieve Medlock b. 10/30/1833 in Gwinnett Co., GA.
